WoB Gold Shadows Might Function Akin to Soul Stamps

"Would it be possible for a Gold Shadow to posses a person (willingly or unwillingly)? I'm thinking that because a gold shadow is so believable, that it wouldn't be hard for the body to accept this identity for a time".

He replied with: "this theory has a lot of merit".

Gold has been so ignored by allomacy. I wonder if all gold users can gleam knowledge or skills from their Gold Shadow (like Shai from Emp Soul). Maybe you need Durralimin to burst the ability? Maybe you'd need to be a savant? Could gold function like the future seeing birds from First of the Sun? There are so many possibilities here.

It is also possible that buring too much gold could scramble your identity if you became a savant. Maybe the two divergances would intermingle against your will to some extent.

Nope, electrum does that.

But you bring up a very good point with connecting it with TES. I think that a Forger who was also an Augur would have it a lot easier to make Essence Marks. Also, while stamping them with it, they could burn gold to remember their original life!

Does Electrum do that? Electrum tells you where you will be in the next second, right? But Gold tells you where you would have been and what would have become of you. To me, seeing your dead body on the ground sounds more like Gold (what you could have been) rather than Electrum (what you will do).

Actually, it would be more correct to say the Electrum shows where you could have been in the next few seconds, because it allows you to react to what you see. For example, if you see your Electrum-shadow get hit by an arrow, you could side-step that arrow, meaning that your Electrum-shadow only gave you a possible future. It is because of this that Electrum allows you to counteract Atium.

Electrum shows you the possible immediate future, correct? It works by showing you what you would have done and it gives you the option to do something different. Gold is different. Gold lets you see alternate timelines that you can't do anything about. Gold shows you the physical manifestation of your bizzaro self.

It seems both Gold and Electrum could possibly show you your own corpse on the ground. However, it seemed like Gold actually shows you a physical manifestation of yourself (Vin could touch her Gold Shadow.). Im not sure Electrum has as much realness to the shadow it produces. If you fine-tuned your gold skills, maybe you could see the alternate version of you that walked a step left instead of a step right. But you are right to say that Electrum lets you see a few seconds in advance. I think both metals could conceivably be used to predict your own death. Gold would require a savant level ability to fine-tune the pulse and sift possible cognitive shadows.

Maybe the Bird ability is a mixture of Gold and Electrum being burned at once. I wonder what would happen if you flared both metals at once? Or gave them a burst?

The point however is that God can be used to gleam novel information. The WoB heavily implies that Vin could interact with her Gold Shadow in some way and potentially gain information or skills from a different time-line. Thats fairly incredible. And even more eerily - does the cognitive shadow desire to be real? Could a sentient soulstamp (the gold shadow) potentially put up a fight?

Very interesting.  I'd seen this discussed previously and it's nice to have WoB on it.

One question though, where exactly is this from?

This makes me wonder about what would happen if you burned gold while storing most/all of your identity in some aluminum. I'm gonna go drop that question into the Ultimate list.

What I am equally interested in is how your gold shadow changes as you increase - or decrease - your Identity.

for a long time I'm thinking that Gold has something special about it out of the mere fact that Brandon repeatedly says how useless it is. Also I thought about it if you want to infiltrate into someone hose to read his secret documents then you only need to make sure to have a way in or that your'e able to get in and then you can just pick up the Gold shadow of you that did it no matter how crazy the plan and since the Shadow give you all his memory you can use it to infiltrate anyplace and any conversion without being even near the place as long as you just choose the Gold shadow of yourself that went into all the trouble of sneaking to the wanted place!!!!

I'm new here so I don't know if we can post stuff from secret history yet, but I remember a passage from that. When preservation was talking about Kelsier burning Malatium: "You got a glimpse of the spiritual realm, then? His connection and his past?" Since Malatium is a mix of Atium and gold I'm pretty sure it means that burning gold can let you see yourself from the spiritual realm.

in Cosmere Theories people talk about theories fro the ENTIRE Cosmere so it's pretty obvious that there will be spoiler in every thrid

Feldi- yes and no. For very new releases, threads containing spoilers, even in spoiler tags, are "quarantined" to the specific spoiler sub-forum for the particular book, and that forum is also reasonably aggressively moderated to ensure thread titles aren't spoilers. So on BoM's release, you couldn't spoil either it or Secret History.

If Strigoi was lurking around during that time, it's completely reasonable for him to ask if that aggressive anti-spoiler moderation policy is still in place- and no, it isn't, as it's been long enough that it's now reasonable to assume that all the Cosmere Theories superfans have read Secret History and Bands of Mourning.

(Edit: you should still be careful about posting to the Mistborn forums though, there'll be a spoiler policy on those until the Bands of Mourning and Secret History forums have been merged back into the general Mistborn discussion. Check out the stickies there for the exact details)

Likewise, when Oathbringer is newly released next year, there'll be a similar policy requiring you to post threads with spoilers to a subforum in the Stormlight Archive discussion.
