Sunbird she/her Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I have terrible self-discipline when it comes to going to bed. 2
Darkness Ascendant he/him Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I just read http://bestfantasybooks.com/top25-fantasy-books.php this. It made me very happy. I wish I was bothered going back to the Reckoner's RPG and crafting some new characters. The ones I made were either out of canon- too OP- offensive-transparant ripoffs- or whatever.*sighs* You guys seem to be having so much fun. I think I will create a guy called Disco, who has an afro that is so bright it blinds people, so bright he himself has to wear special sunglasses to protect himself when using his powers XD. And when he isn't, he wears a fully sick helmet to cover his hair.
ParadoxicalZen he/him Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Fun potter headcanon funnies darnedest things pop up on my facebook feed; @TwiLyghtSansSparkles Don't know if you've seen these Harry Potter tumblr posts but their headcanon is pretty funny
Delightful Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 (I'm not even sure where to post this anymore) @Darkness Ascendant @Doctor12 I'm a Maccabee in a combat skirt! 3
Doc12 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Hahahaha whoa! Can i know what the Hebrew words say?
Darkness Ascendant he/him Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Haha @Delightful Can't believe you actually did that XD
Delightful Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 (edited) So yes, thats Hebrew. It's the motto-thing of the Maccabees, where their name comes from. I wrote it in old Hebrew script, in 'modern' script it reads מי כמוך באלים השם mi kamocha ba'elim Hashem who is like you among the...great ones? G-D. The first letters, plus Hebrew vowels that aren't letters, spell out Maccabee. I haven't bolded the h because it's the sort of fill-in word we use for G-D's name, which we don't say outside of prayer, which starts with the letter equivalent of Y. So MKBY + vowels = makaby but for some reason we spell it Maccabee in English. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ this has been today's lesson on Judaism! @Darkness Ascendantwhat can I say, I had time and it's fun. Reveal hidden contents VOLDEMORT: So, let me see if I have this right. You, Older Draco, are married. OLDER DRACO: Yes. VOLDEMORT: And you have a Time-Turner. OLDER DRACO: I figured that was obvious. VOLDEMORT: You used that Time-Turner to bring your wife back with you, even though Time-Turners aren't supposed to work like that, and even though I treated you like something I stepped in for two years straight. OLDER DRACO: Uh-huh. VOLDEMORT: And now, instead of killing me or telling your younger self to, I don't know, flee to Greenland or something, you're asking me to do the do with your wife, who you are married to, and who I am not married to and do not find attractive, as I have never shown a romantic interest in anyone, no matter how much they might throw themselves at me. BELLATRIX: But my lord! VOLDEMORT: Shut up, Bellatrix. And put some clothes on over that bikini! BELLATRIX runs off sobbing. OLDER DRACO: That's about the size of it. VOLDEMORT: You don't want me to go forward in time and lay waste to the future? OLDER DRACO: Nope. VOLDEMORT: You don't want to tell me how to win the war? How to keep Potter from destroying my—er, from discovering my secret to immortality? OLDER DRACO: That's not half as good a plan as this. VOLDEMORT: Wow, Malfoy. If you weren't such an idiot, I'd assume this whole thing was a ploy to get me into a vulnerable position so that wife of yours could stab me with a poison dart or something. OLDER DRACO and ASTORIA trade glances. ASTORIA: Heh heh. She grins sheepishly and hides something behind her back. VOLDEMORT: Waaaaiiiiit a minute, that was your plan! You were going to have your wife kill me! Naked! OLDER DRACO: I really don't see how the nudity is the worst part of this. VOLDEMORT: You lying little snake! I have had enough of you! Avada Ke— IRON MAN: Tank missile! VOLDEMORT is vaporized in the explosion. The dust clears, and OLDER DRACO and ASTORIA straighten, their dual Shield Charms having protected them from the fire and debris. IRON MAN lands, his face plate sliding back. IRON MAN: You know, I really don't see why I couldn't have just done that from the beginning. ASTORIA: Yes, but watching You-Know-Who be an idiot was just too much fun. IRON MAN: Is there, uh, anything else you want me to explode? I got a whole sleeve full of these things. OLDER DRACO and ASTORIA look at each other. They grin. I posted this on Fanfiction.net just for funsies. One reviewer said it made more sense than the actual play. 7

I'm guessing that's not the droid you were looking for? No, I'm looking for sharpness of blades. Like, how does knife work? I mean physics behind those things. What is the difference between a dull blade and a sharp one? Why do we serrate blades and how does that work? What are the factors building up the sharpness variable? Is it the angle or width or some properties of material or what?
Sunbird she/her Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Uh... lolwut? I searched "Depeche Mode" (a musical group) in the Author/Name field in my library catalog, and all 14 results were the same exact listing of the book The Hobbit. Basically the only thing I know about this topic is that the pressure required to cut something with a blade is directly proportional to the width of the blade. I.e. thinner blade = less pressure for cutting = sharper blade. One of my science teachers demonstrated this concept by attempting to slice an apple with a wooden ruler. It was pretty amusing.

Its a sequel to another song I wrote once upon a time, about a witch.

Yeah, things like that (I've already read those you linked, though). But I'd really could use some scientific article. Even a physics coursebook. There's a paper linked in the first link, but I'm not getting much out of it. If anyone wants to know why I'm interested in that topic: one of my characters have a blade with edges which angles are infinitely close to zero. At first I thought it would work like lightsaber/Shardblade, but then I realized I don't know how blades work in the first place.
