I just tried Dagorhir. It's a sport in which you hit others with foam weapons.

That sounds Elvish...

"Dagor" means "battle", so what does "dagorhir" mean?

Battle Lords (of foam weapons.)

Just looked it up :)

Apparently it's Sindarin, to be precise.

Edit- just realized that "hir" is also in "Rohirrim" (horse lords).

Look at me! I'm linguist-ing!

I just had an idea!

Rom-coms have a cutesy shortened genre name, but what about action comedies like Mystery Men? What do you call those? Well, I decided to answer the question nobody asked to create the punch-com! It's like a rom-com, but instead of romance, people hit each other. I'm brilliant.

I am all for this.

Is a horror comedy a Splattercom or a Screamcom?

@Oversleep But Splattercom sounds like Splattercon, and anything related to the Dresden Files is awesome in my book.

Searching the internet for what "sharpness" is on 3:15 am. It's related to my worldbuiling. Sadly, the internet is unhelpful <_<

When you say "sharpness" all I can think of is photography--like whether your subject is properly in focus. I'm guessing that's not the droid you were looking for?

I haven't been on the Random stuff thread for about 16 pages (?), so I've missed a lot. But, @Kaymyth, I think I just saw you on Tumblr. A Rosemary Williams who won Best Novice at the Worldcon Masquerade? I'm assuming that was you? If it was, Congrats.

I really need to be more active in this thread. what else have I missed?

I can't decide whether to quip that all Michael Bay films are comedies, or that the comedy comes from how bad they are.

LOL. I was mostly thinking of his penchant for explosions at least every 60 seconds.

I made Tumblr?  Really?  I can has link?

So, um, yes, that was me.  :D  I've gotta say that @ThirdGen did an absolutely fantastic job on the voiceover recording for my routine.  The audience absolutely ate the whole thing up.  (I couldn't see them, but I was told afterwards that there were about 1500 people in there, and even more upstairs watching on the live feed.  That was at least a third of the entire convention.)  This win, by the way, officially bumps me up from Novice to Journeyman in costume competitions.  One of my other Kansas City Costumer's Guild friends won her Journeyman division and has been bumped up to Master, and our group of Masters competed as a team and won Best Workmanship in their division as well.  Our Guild is awesome.

Other highlights of the con:

*  Bartle Hall is kind of amazing, space-wise. The exhibits, dealer's section, art show, and a bunch of other things were all in the same ginormous hall.  We had NASA astronauts in attendance even!  Being on staff, I helped with move-in and setup. It takes an incredible amount of planning to arrange and mark off that much space for things.

*  After the Masquerade, I was still in costume and ready to head back to my hotel when I ran into some NaNo friends.  When they heard what had happened, they insisted on escorting me upstairs into the exhibit hall around the party areas (where people had been watching the contest feed) for a "victory lap".  I got all the accolades.  It might've gone to my head.

*  I shamelessly pinned my Masquerade award ribbon to my bag and flaunted it all over the con the last two days.

*  I chatted with John Picacio on Saturday (I had previously met him at JordanCon), and later that day he recognized me and called me by name.  When he was far enough away that he couldn't have been reading my badge.

*  OMG GUYS I GOT TO TOUCH A HUGO AWARD

I'm up for it no problem! It'll be fun to have someone to brave the depths with!  Plus you can keep my sanity from slipping... Too far...

@Delightful Sounds good to me! I started reading one of the threads and got through like two pages... I think it was Portland. The one where Doctor Funtimes appears pretty much right off the bat.
