Then a new coworker moved into the desk next to mine. As of yesterday, he's begun sitting in my chair, despite his desk having both plenty of room and a wall jack (which I assume is the reason why he's been taking my chair). This makes it awkward to get to my stuff, as I put it in the drawer by my chair. So I moved. I'll miss the computer at my old desk, but I didn't use it much anyway. Yeah, I'm going to jump on that bandwagon. At least politely asking can't hurt.

Mistrunner Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Band camp has started, causing me to realize again that I have little to no arm strength. We've got good music, though, so I've got good songs running through my head for the rest of eternity. That will comfort me as my arms slowly die.
Sunbird she/her Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 @Mistrunner You might have answered this question already but... Do you play a particularly heavy instrument or is it just the fatigue of having your arms up all the time that's taking its toll? When I was in high school marching band the mellophones and trombones were always having a hard time with that.

I hope I can get my arm strength up. I better be buff at the end of marching season.

Sunbird she/her Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Heh. At least the sousaphones get to wear their instruments instead of having to carry them around with just their arms. XD
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Politics: Spoiler "Remind me again what Donald Trump's appeal is with voters?" Maybe he appeals to the oft-neglected angry Oompa Loompa voting bloc? Otherwise, I have no clue
Quiver he/him Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Well. I bought a copy of the Killing Joke. I'm not a fan of the comic, and I've heard... things about the film. Figure it's worth giving it a try, but still. There is a decent chance I might end up ranting about it here, or penning a story involving Barbara Gordon and Twilight Sparkle (because Tara Strong voices both those characters) "fixing" things, or..yeah. This is gonna be a fun ride guys.

The movie as a whole would have been better if they just let it be 50-60 minutes and didn't add in the pointless to the point of being borderline subtracting Barbara-Bruce "Romance". On a positive note, Mark Hamill is wonderful as the Joker as per usual.

He gives people free reign to express the terrible things that contemporary values have rendered unacceptable. His die-hard supporters can rationalize anything he does (e.g: mocking a disabled reporter, encouraging Russia to hack U.S. info) as A-OK because "we need an outsider" or "he's not a wuss" (both things I have heard my peers say). He attempts to silence free press, espouses autocratic values, is a simply reprehensible human being… and people like him because of discontent and a desire to unleash those aforementioned instincts. Frankly, I find it horrifying. I think you hit the nail on the head. Trump represents a change from the status quo that has been aggravating people for years. The problem is that he's worse than the status quo, but a lot of people don't see it. 2

They don't seem involved unless there's a presidential election happening within a few months. The thing about change is that it has to be sustained, otherwise you're essentially the drunk guy at the bar who laments the current state of politics, but never votes and isn't even registered to do so. 2

Don't even get me started about the armchair slacktivists all over the place. "If all the people who said that third parties can't win voted for them, they would!" This is trying to turn anecdotes into data. You want a third party to be viable? By all means, put in the work. Pour your time and energy into the party of your choice year-round, get some people into local office. Because the plain and simple truth is that there will be no third party winning the presidency until there is enough support for them to have city council members, state representatives, and congressfolk - and there are enough of them to be more than a statistical outlier. You cannot build a political party from the top down. 9 minutes ago, Iron Eyes said: Hide contents Ick indeed, it is hardly a romance anyways...
