Bowiespoon he/him Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 If you had to create a sanderson-esk world, how would your characters say when their bosses fire them, when they walk into a coffee table, stub their toe, or just want everyone in the immediate vicinity to know what exactly they are thinking?
Left he/him Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Buggrit -ing Whoops, never mind, Sir Pratchett took those already Mmmm, in all seriousness... I mean it depends on the shard and shardworld I guess, but I think swears related to food could be fun. 2
Nashan’Elin he/him Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Aonic swears have some interesting possibilities, maybe with Reo (punishment), Sheo (death), Ire (age), etc
Stormgate he/him Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 You holder of Ruby! By the Diamond's Fragments. I'm working on a cubic planet, with magic systems sort of based on gemstones. Actually, certain gemstones I have acting like Shards. I had the basic idea for this before I discovered Sanderson and realized it was like Mistborn, the Cosmere, and a bit of Stormlight Archive.
Quiver he/him Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 I'm kinda batting two ideas for fantasy worlds around. One is a naval-based setting; lots of islands, fleets, that sorta thing. Not sure on swaers for it though. Storms would have been great, but I hear somebody has already taken it... The other is using this culture which believes horned/antlered creatures are sacred. So thinking of using "Tines" as a curse word equivalent to "damnation"...
Alfa he/him Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 (edited) You storming Sadeas. That would be probably better in the "sanderson insults" topic. Anyway... Some courses for the minor shardworlds: Threnody: Triple-broken-rules! Shadows forgotten! First of the sun: Patji's hundred deaths! Eyeless horrors! Edited April 23, 2016 by Alfa 1
ZotarDragonSlayer he/him Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 One idea of a curse I've enjoyed is while working on a book with planes I've used numbers as curses, because people see different planes of existence as different forms of the underworld.
Erunion he/him Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 That would be probably better in the "sanderson insults" topic. Anyway... Some courses for the minor shardworlds: Threnody: Triple-broken-rules! Shadows forgotten! First of the sun: Patji's hundred deaths! Eyeless horrors! Better ring to it - thrice-broken rules! Others for Threnody: Red eyed/green eyed monster! You blood shedding fool! You're not worth the silver to save! Shades be upon you! This is a world where bloody would probably a big curse word too.
Zathoth Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 In Skyverea (The book I should be writing... takes place in a universe somewhat like Super Mario Galaxy... anyway) I have Stars, Starburnt, Starblinded and so on.

Vissy Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 (edited) Just rewrite One Piece as a serious fantasy. Edited May 1, 2016 by Varangian
Xaladin he/him Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 I already have my own swear. It's "busy beaver." Yes it has meaning. Yes I could build a world with a magic system where it is relevant.
