Long Game 19: Twinborn City

I believe what I said was "I will neither confirm nor deny," which, despite this apparent example of confirmation bias, is what I would say regardless of whether there were or were not any Eliminators left.

It was just a joke. :P

Night 5 -

Laurelin fretted, walking behind Tilion. She’d finally had to come to the marketplace, under Tilion’s pressure. He arrived at the mayor’s house, and he waved her inside. Without any other recourse, she followed.

They came into the room, and Mayor Axies stood. “Ah, Tilion. What brings you here? And with such a fine lady?”

“Lady Laurelin, your grace,” she said quietly.

“I’m acting as her guide during her stay here,” said Tilion. “But that’s not the matter of which I wish to speak. I was- Well, a couple of nights ago, when Sumath died. Do you remember? I wasn’t witness to the event itself, but... I found the body.”

“Why didn’t you report it, man? The constables discovered it the next morning! There was no way to link back to the killer at that point, or none that they found. Fortunately, the matter is over, since Yafeshan has died.”

Tilion shook his head. “That’s exactly the thing. I don’t think that was the last of them. Sure, there was no death last night, but that doesn’t mean the danger’s gone. And- Well. I didn’t report it because...” His voice lowered. “Because I saw the killer kneeling over the body.”

The mayor’s eyes widened, as Laurelin very nearly slumped. Great. Now I get to be sent off to prison, for who knows how long?

“It was a woman, you see, not like Yafeshan at all. I don’t remember much, but she had silver hair, yet she didn’t appear old. Beautiful silver hair...”

Silver hair. Silver hair! Telperion, you’ve saved me! Lauren barely kept herself from collapsing with relief. She wasn’t going to be arrested!

“Silver hair, hmm? Well, that’s a good deal more than we’ve had to go on before, anyway. Thank you, Tilion.”

The rest of their visit was spent in idle chat with the mayor, which Laurelin could have done in her sleep. When they were done, Laurelin followed Tilion back out into the street with a light step and a light heart.

“Word is that there might be another murderer out there, a girl with silver hair,” said Silas, joining the little group.

“Silver hair? I don’t know any girl like that,” ArSel drawled. “I like my girls a bit younger than eighty.”

Not old, though. Young and beautiful.”

“You definitely wouldn't know anyone like that, ArSel,” joked Myte.

“Ah, hush. Actually, there is someone. Doesn’t Dano have silver hair?”

“Maybe...” Silas said, frowning. “It’s been so long since I’ve seen her that I can’t remember for sure.”

“What if...” Myte gasped. “What if we haven’t seen her because her buddies got killed?”

“Why don’t we just go and... knock on her door?” Silas suggested. “See why she’s gone into hiding.”

The three eventually found Dano’s door and knocked. Silas drew his dagger, indicating for the others to do the same. “Best to be prepared.”

After several minutes stretching their tension to the breaking point, the door finally opened with a bang. Dano stepped out, hair shining in the sunlight, and grinned. “So, what’d I miss?” *breaks into jig*

The three men attacked at once, and three daggers hit Dano’s heart.

“Rusts...” she whispered, as she lay dying. “This is why I don’t store chromium when I’m near people...”

Silas and the others saw with a start that her hair wasn’t silver. It was wet. She’d been bathing. And, apparently, storing chromium.

ArSel bent down to check the corpse, and pulled out a couple of pieces of metal. “No spikes. Only these.” He held up a pair of chromium metalminds.

Silently, the three walked away.

Danosaur was lynched! He was an Iron/Chromium Twinborn with a Wooden Shield!

Verre

"Maybe that stinky person isn't the best target," Verre said. "Feels too much like taking advantage of his craziness." Verre thought for a moment. "Ooh, what would happen if we glitter-bombed Lady Laurelin?"

Jala blinked. Lady Lauralin? Thats a high risk target but I like that. . "Depends on whether she knows it was us or not. " she said with a wide grin.

Gaining a power you already have by any means is no longer pointless.

Gaining an allomantic power will let you use it as enhanced whenever you want.

Gaining a feruchemical power allows you to store 2 charges when previously you could store 1, so over the course of 3 action periods, someone with Feruchemical gold and a spike for Feruchemical gold could store 6 charges, or in one night someone with both Feruchemical cadmium and a spike for Feruchemical cadmium could store twice if they didn't move.

The night was still. Even Telperion hadn’t ventured out, not when everyone was looking for a silver-haired girl now. She stayed at home, ensconced in covers with a good book.

But someone was out and about. Many, many people. And one of more importance than the others. One person was out, searching slowly and carefully through mounds of debris.

Finally, they found what they were looking for. An ornate pommel, just protruding from the dirt.

They grasped the handle. And they were held fast to it by a sudden, overpowering force of hatred.

Well, well, what do we have here... A deep, dark voice from the hammer, which the hand was slowly pulling from the soil, not entirely of its owner’s volition.

“I- I- Who are you?”

The voice chuckled. I am hatred. I am revenge. I am death.

Haelbarde has been reincarnated as the Hazecrusher!

The Night is over. Please do not PM each other. (PMs to the GMs are always allowed.) Day will begin in 24 hours.

The wielder had little chance of resisting Haelcrusher. They had more contact with him than any other of his would-be minions, and that put them completely under his domain.

Yes, it would have taken a man of supreme will to resist Haelcrusher even slightly while bearing the hammer of aluminum.

Edrab was alive. He hadn’t felt like this in ages! N1, to be precise

A heartbeat! He had a heartbeat! Well, it wasn’t his per se, but he was controlling the body with it, so that was close enough. Speaking of… he glanced up, and checked for injuries. The spinal cord was still intact, no obvious perforations…

Everything seemed to be in order.

It was time.

He strode into the room, swiping himself back and forth experimentally. He was no Discord, but he would do.

Looking around, he spied his target, Cylkan. Of the lamplighters’ guild, was he not? Well, it was time for lights out. He swung himself in a mighty arc, smashing Cylkan’s left leg. His eyes shot open, and he immediately grabbed a vial of metal and gulped it down. Hael stepped back, watching carefully. If Cylkan was an aluminum Gnat, he could be in trouble. But then Cylkan jumped up, balancing with ease on his one remaining leg, and pulled out a pair of stone daggers.

Pewter, then. Not a problem.

Ignoring his opponent’s feeble attempt at defense, Edrab smashed himself into the best target he could see: Cylkan’s head. After all, if he couldn’t have his own head, why should this sap get his?

The room was covered with things after Cylkan’s head quite literally exploded. Edrab was slightly taken aback. Who knew there was that much blood in just one little head? It actually could come in handy; maybe he could get his old spikes back without losing too much power.

He dumped out a few metal vials, and began to bottle up the dark red liquid.

Who to kill next? Perhaps he should just toss something into the air and go in the direction it landed.

It was as good a method as any, anyway. He pulled a coin out of his mouth- of course he didn’t have any Pushable metal on his person, he wasn’t stupid- and flicked it into the air.

It didn’t come down. Edrab waited. He was immortal now, after all. He had all the time on the world.

It was quiet enough that he’d be able to hear a pin clip drop, but nothing.

Finally, straining to listen for the sound of the *clink* in the darkness, he heard a *thud-OW* come from his right. It sounded like a six-inch rodent was surprised by the impending hoof of a giraffe, ran away, was shot at, and the bullet hit a steel spike, only to ricochet off and kill the shooter. Or maybe it was a coin hitting someone. Either way, he was definitely going in that direction.

Edrab hurried down the street, carefully staying out of sight of any Spooky Tineyes. Finally, he reached the spot whence the yelp had come, underneath a streetlight.

“Here, giraffe-y giraffe-y giraffe-y! Here, girl!” he shouted. Giraffe meat was expensive. He’d be able to make a killinghehehe on it.

A silhouette appeared in the darkness outside the warm circle of light. Edrab perked up, before realizing that giraffes generally are taller than the average human. Wait, human?!? Suddenly, he remembered why he was here.

Hiding himself behind his back, Edrab cautiously advanced. How did one sound tentative again? Ah, yes.

“H-Hello? Is anyone there? Come out!” he said, suppressing a giggle.

“It’s only me” the figure retorted, stepping forward out of the shadows. “Only me.” he said again, for it was a he: Siaron the Scorned.

“Bastard!”

Siaron looked tired, as if he was repeating himself for the fiftieth time. “Yes.”

“Was that you who stole my coin?” Edrab asked, slowly moving closer. Only three more steps, and then he would strike.

“Sorry. I can’t help it, you know. People shouldn’t have metal out.” Two more.

“Ever since I started flaring it, I haven’t been able to stop myself from Lurching everything that comes my way.” One more.

“Hey, what are you-” Edrab cut him off, pulling himself out from behind his back.

“STOP. It’s HAMMER TIME,” he shouted gleefully, before bringing himself up over his head, and back down where Siaron should have been. Instead, there was just a person.

“Hey, who are you? And where did Siaron go?” he demanded of them.

“I, uh, I, I have to run. I don’t know where he went. Bye!” Edrab stopped for a moment. How had Siaron just disappeared like that?

“Hey, wait!” the person turned around. “BOO!” For a split second, everything about the person screamed Siaron, the Twinborn bastard, and then it he was back to anonymity.

“AHA,” Edrab shrieked, then tore after him like a duck out of water (i.e. awkward and terrifying).

Siaron screamed and ran, but his pursuer had more momentum, and had closed enough that he could throw himself into Siaron’s back. The unlucky twinborn saw it coming, and tried to Lurch it out of the way, or at least change its direction, only to discover, to his great surprise, that the warhammer was made of pure aluminum. It would be Siaron’s second-to-last shock. Finding out whose body was possessed by Edrab’s malevolent spirit was the last one, and it didn’t help his wrecked body dodge the final hammer blow at all.

He looked around for witnesses, but nobody was near him. Or so he thought.

He continued, after a final glance around. And then stopped. Did light through yonder window break?

Alexandra Rotec had never been one to stand idly by. This time, however, she’d been forced to watch as that monster smashed poor Siaron. All she’d wanted was a glass of water, but on her way downstairs she’d heard voices outside, and stopped at the window. By the light of the lamp, she’d seen the two people meet, and then one of them run, only to fall to the thrown hammer. She had to get out of here. Why had she even come to “Twinborn City”, as they arrogantly called it. She was Twinborn, but neither of her powers were that useful. She hated manipulating people, and as for Gasping? Heh. She was soooo happy that she could hold her breath. Sooooo important. She ran back upstairs and threw her things together; her extra metalminds, a sword, some clothes, food. Picking up the suitcase with one hand, she downed some brass with the other. It may not be that useful, but maybe it would help.

Edrab approached the house confidently. He’d already annihilated two Twinborn, and had nothing to fear from a third. This was the Rotecs’ house, wasn’t it? He hadn’t known them very well before he’d left, but he thought their youngest had been a Soother. Definitely not a Gnat, anyway. He kicked in the door, only to reveal the very person he’d been thinking of. Alexandra! That was her name.

She pulled a sword out from a bag she’d been holding. As if that would help.

“Back! Get back! I saw what you did to Siaron.” Oh well. A third murder wouldn’t hurt anyone.

Edrab advanced steadily, ignoring the warning. She held up the sword, and obviously knew how to use it. He raised his own weapon up, and fell into a fighting stance. Maybe this would be tricky. He tried a wild swing at first, just to test her skill, and was punished for it by a stab in the shoulder. Ouch.

It seemed Alexandra was better than he’d assumed. All his previous confidence was gone. He knew he couldn’t beat this opponent. She was just so much more adept, and he could barely even handle himself as a hammer.

Alexandra ran out of brass. The vial had been small, and flaring only accelerated the burn rate.

Suddenly, Edrab was back to being cocksure. He could easily destroy anyone in this city, with himself as a weapon. He smashed the sword out of her hands, and slammed the hammer into her, knocking her down, where she began to search for something.

Alexandra knew she had another vial somewhere! She’d put them in her bag, hadn’t she? But it was all the way across the room, behind this thing with a hammer. She cowered in the corner where she’d fallen, but began to believe she could survive. As long as she had enough brass…

He raised the hammer for the final blow, and brought it down. The only witness was gone. Just to make sure she was really dead, since he was aware of some that wore hidden armor, he checked for breathing. None. Edrab walked out the door, satisfied.

Alexandra stayed still for several seconds, barely daring to hope it had worked. She knew she was dying; she could barely move her arm. But she managed to crawl over to her bag, drink the brass, and flare it once more at the thing that had destroyed her life.

Edrab began to feel tired, unconfident, scared… but this time he knew where it was coming from. How was she still alive? He spun, and ran for the house. She could alert everybody, given time. This was all going wrong!

Seeing the approaching killer, Alexandra flared her brass farther than she’d ever done before. She’d always worried about becoming a savant accidentally, but that didn’t matter anymore.

It wasn’t working. He was still coming. With the last of her time, she went even farther, burning hours worth of metal in the few short seconds before he would reach her. Something snapped. She was in two places at once, looking at the thing, and looking at her own broken body.

And then, Alexandra Rotec died.

The killer looked at their hands, covered in blood. It looked at the hammer, that had contained Edrab Leah.

“Wha- what have I done?”

Is Hael dead now? (Unless stated otherwise, dead means unable to talk in thread, unable to PM, unable to vote, and unable to use actions during either the day or night.)

Does anyone know the last location(s) of Amanuensis, Elodin, and Clanky?

Posted

Are you saying that Hael has been unable to use actions since N1? Because there's a writeup up top that very clearly described him bashing people to death...

Posted

I asked Elbereth about the whole Haelcrusher thing (because Word of Elbereth can be wholly trusted), and basically, she said that it was just for writing purposes. Hael, I believe, cannot do anything.

Lucky Spiked, getting the Hazecrusher...

It sucks that they managed to kill 3 players too. I'm gonna think about some things, do some calculations and see what we should do now. Obviously, I'd like to lynch them before they call kill anymore of us, but I'm not really sure who it is at this point. Any ideas? STINK, how about you? Are you Spiked? You've been extremely quiet this game.

More clarifications:

Can I pass an item during the day?

Yes.

If I move into a room where someone is burning Bendalloy, do I get an extra action?

Yes.
