As did all leaders after him, including our current one.

With the coffee thing, I view it as being similar to when a parent tells their small child to not eat the mushrooms. You don't know what they do to you, you just have to trust that the parent knows what they're doing.

we dont drink coffee because its really addictive, browns your teeth, and has adverse side effects that we know nothing about!

how many people do you know that cant function in the morning until they get their coffee?

Is there a reason G-D commanded this? Bad for the soul? Leads people to crazy behaviour or something?

And....is the inclusion of F an religious/political thing? Are there two Josephs?

I really don't know much about Mormons.

A big part of it is just that it's good for our body. Our bodies are temples and should be treated with respect. That's why we also don't get tattoos or more piercings than a single pair of ear piercings for girls. Official doctrine can be found Here and Here, if you'd care for a better explanation.

People mostly just use the "F" in the middle to tell him apart from two other past prophets, Joseph Smith and Joseph Fielding Smith.

How do you know that they have adverse side effects if you know nothing about them? ;)

I'll tell you about one: Makes you jittery. That's why I don't drink coffee, though I do drink tea. :P

So far as avoiding coffee, tea, etc. for religious reasons goes—in my opinion, if avoiding those things helps bring you closer to God, or helps you focus on him more, or what have you, by all means avoid them. If not, I don't see the harm in drinking a nice mocha.

And of course, if something is wrong for you, you ought not partake. At the same time, that does not mean those adverse effects affect people universally. For another, clearer example: consider peanut butter and peanut allergy.

Hee - we coffee-drinkers really exaggerate on this front.

One thing I've heard people say, is that the Word of Wisdom is given for the weak. Take alcohol for instance, you could drink it sparingly and not get addicted. But people with weaker self control could get addicted to it. So it's just easier to not drink it at all.

Okay, I can understand coffee (sort of). But tee? C'mon, there are no observable effects.

It is caffeinated. More weakly than coffee, true, and it hydrates rather than dehydrates, but some people might be sensitive to the caffeine or some other component of it. I know one family that's sensitive to salicylates (a naturally occurring acid that helps repel insects and is found in tea, coffee, tomatoes, peppers, and berries, among other things) and so they don't drink coffee or tea.

There are risks for a lot of activities (swimming, driving cars, rollercoastering, and so forth) but in such cases, you can (I believe in your abilities ;)) assess both the risk and benefits.

Some things are merely enjoyable and only carry mild risks/benefits, such as drinking tea and coffee (provided it is prepared specifically without excessive sugar, alcohol, etc). In this risk analysis, there is little gain (if any) to giving up an enjoyable activity. Likewise, if you are apathetic to the joys of consuming tea and coffee, you don't really lose anything by starting. (We'll leave aside the consequences of violating religious proscriptions since that does not appear to be the subject of this discussion)

Also, one should imo base things on their own abilities and limitations. If Johnny is athletic, he should be allowed to enjoy the playing of sports even if physical exertion would seriously harm Asthmatic Aaron.

Though I think my current arguing sparring might get me sprayed with water if I'm not to careful :P

Time to hunt Orlion down with my squirt gun while talking about the pros and cons of coffee. :P

And what Mormons think about anti-conception? Is it forbidden like in Catholic church?

If you are talking about birth control, that's between you and God. It isn't encouraged, but there is no out right ban like with Catholics.

So, I'm finally going crazy. I actually started to seriously consider spending lots of money on a huge cage for rats and buying three more rats. I already have three. Three is already more than I have hands, so six rats would be absolute madness. Help me, people. O.o

I am going to offer you advice. You probably should listen to it. I am being serious.

Now, listen.
Do not buy more rats.
