[BoM SPOILERS] What K and N were looking for

I was reading BoM late last night, and I saw that broadsheet article that's about talking metal tools. 1 random, unsupported idea flashed through my head, which created a crazy theory. Here we go:

This is based on the fact that Warbreaker and Alloy of Law occurred at the same time (roughly)

What Khriss and Nazh are doing on Scadrial is looking for the new worldhopping Vasher, but they somehow lost him and don't know which planet he went to, which is why they are on Scadrial.

And now for the crazy assumption: Type IV BioChromatic Entities share another characteristic with Type I: That they can modify their appearance. My reasoning is this:

  • Other crazy idea: All BioChromatic entities can modify their appearance
  • Only the sentient one (Types I and IV) have the willpower to do so
  • We see Type IIIs changing to look like they're alive, fabrics looking like muscle and the like

So. Khriss and Nazh lost Vasher somehow, and are searching Scadrial by looking for a disguised Nightblood.

There's no evidence for this so far, but I'm interested in what you all think say as you're tearing this apart.

So, thought?

I think Nightblood can't change appearance, It seems uncapable to have both his power and mind at the same time. Changing appearance it's something more it have to do.

And if Nightblood may change, why Did Vasher not try to hide it when He was on Nalthis ? Nightblood was easy to spot and reconize also if Vasher was to use a stealth method.

Well, Nightblood was going to get spotted in any case, seeing as he's essentially shouting "you should steal me!" to just about anyone within a certain range nearly all of the time. But I guess an inconspicuous Nightblood might not be noticed by people who are either too far away or too "pure" to be influenced by him, as long as you aren't paying too close attention to where most of the people near Vasher at any given time will be looking: right at Nightblood.

Further evidence: Nightblood is essentially a more heavily invested, corrupted Shardblade.

living shard blades can change there shape I'm not saying that night blood can but just because he's a more heavily invested shard blade doesn't mean he couldn't

I think you may have misunderstood what Voidus was saying. I believe he meant that since Nightblood is essentially a weird shardblade, and (living) shardblades can change their shape at will, it would make sense for Nightblood to have a similar ability.

So here's a good one:

Let's name all the wacky things Nightblood would turn himself into! (Assuming he can)

I think he's choose a fish. No particular reason.

a stick......... wait............... no, because then he couldn't change back, as sticks are eternally unchanging

That is indeed what I was trying to say.

One thing I thought of when I read this theory was this:

Khriss is generally thought of as extremely smart and cosmere savy. if I put myself in her shoes where would I look for an immortal Returned that requires a weekly infusion of stormlight to survive and that has a powerful sword. Scadrial would be the last place to look for Vasher a few reasons.

1) no way to replenish his breaths.

2) nobody on Scadrial uses swords anymore during this time period, carrying one would make him stick out like a sore thumb.

The only reason she would look on Scadrial is because it is so unlikely a place, as in Vasher might go there briefly to loose a tail.

It may be possible for him to replenish his breath with the mists. But I agree with your point about him sticking out due to his sword.

He would have to figure out how to even get mists that don't always show up, and only in Harmony's presence from what we've seen, to actually help an alien. Compared to stormlight which highstorms simply vomit all over the planet with little regard for a focused purpose.

Added the upvote that Landis intended.

Now then!

Why would Khriss be looking for Vasher on Scadrial?  We know that there are a few different ways to Worldhop.  Perhaps Vasher only knew of one, and Khriss knew this, and further knew that this one method of Worldhopping would require Vasher to pay a visit to Scadrial.  After all, it's called 'hopping' not 'instantaneous transportation from Point A to Point B.'  And in a side-note, it sounds a bit like island-hopping, which was the strategy the US Navy used in WW2 in the Pacific specifically because of the vast distances and logistical/supply nightmare if they didn't--so Sanderson may have named it something similar for similar reasons.

Or perhaps Khriss taught him how to Worldhop, but only gave directions that got him to Scadrial, where she planned to leave him for later retrieval.

I've got nothing at all to counter point 2, though :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Maybe she's just after a Type IV BioChromatic Entity? It doesn't necessarily have to be Nightblood. Someone might have made another one we don't know about? Tangential theory: the Shard did and misplaced it/it got stolen.

Hm. Somebody shoved a metal sword through corpse which was about to be Returned which caused Endowment to accidentialy Awaken the sword with the Returned.

But they are probably just looking for Nightblood.
