I've been reading through the Coppermind wiki and I haven't found any explanation for the conspicuous lack of actual full Mistborn in the second trilogy. Does anyone have an explanation?

Mixing bloodlines with the Terris people. They gained twinborn and allomancers and ferrings became more common, but full mistborn and feruchemists became unattainable.

Posted

In short, the bloodlines are too diluted.

By the end of Hero of Ages, there were no Mistborn left, with the exception of Spook, once Harmony fixed him. Even then, he was made to be as weak of a mistborn as could exist.

By era 2, nobody has Allomancy expressed strongly enough in their Spiritual DNA to be mistborn. Similarly, Feruchemy has been so thinned and the expression of the two powers interfere with each other such that only ferrings exist.

Actually as far as we know full feruchemists are only uncommon and not entirely impossible in the current times.

Actualy, we don't have any confirmation there are no more full feruchemists, do we? If they exist they most likely stay in Terris communities, and there is speculation Wax's grandmother may be one.

EDIT: Ninjaed!

In Era 1, there were Mistborn and Mistings, while in regard to Feruchemy, there were only full Feruchemists.
So Allomancy was already diluted, while Feruchemy weren't. I imagine there could be some full Feruchemists still.

I wouldn't eliminate either group from existence - the chance for a full Metalborn is low, but I don't think it's non-existent. The original plan for Era 3 involved a Mistborn serial killer, if I recall correctly.

Although we don't know whether they were supposed to be a natural Mistborn or a hemalurgic creation.

As I always understood it, only a Fullborn is impossible. You can still have a Mistborn-Ferring or a FullFeruchemist-Misting, But those combinations are so exceedingly rare as to be almost irrelevant. A Mistborn or full Feruchemist is still possible, just fairly rare. I really hope that Grandma V is a full feruchemist, that would be so cool.

Where is the WoB that Spook's Mistborn status was "as weak...as could exist"?

Well, to be exact, it's not that Mistborn or full Feruchemist are impossible. It's just a chance to be born one under normal circumstances is so low that it's not even worth considering. If Fullborn is possible to be born due to interbreeding Allomantic and Feruchemical bloodlines, then the chance for it may be so low that it's practically impossible.

Remember, Mistborn were already rare in pure noble lines (for example, Straff with his dozens of children). And Vin killed some of them, so they didn't have kids to pass their genes to.

Now that Allomantic and Feruchemical genes are interfering...I imagine that "dilution of blood" is not blood getting weaker, it's just because A-genes and F-genes are repressing each other, while raising the amount of Investiture, hence more Metalborn, but no Mistborn nor full feruchemists, not to mention Fullborn.

I suppose he want to say that Spook didn't gain the power of a Lerasium Mistborn.

But he "only" gained the Mistborn Ability without any "upgrade" to his Allomantic Strenght.

Just some terms:

  • Misting - One Allomantic metal
  • Ferring - One Feruchemical metal
  • Mistborn - All Allomantic metals
  • Keeper or Full Feruchemist - All Feruchemical metals
  • Twinborn - One Allomantic metal and one Feruchemical metal
  • Compounder - A twinborn with the same Allomantic and Feruchemical metal
  • Fullborn - All Allomantic metals and all Feruchemical metals

Is Spooks mistborn powers weaker because they were given through hemalurgy? I remmber he gets stabbed with a sword through someones heart. Fuzzy on how he became a mistborn if someone can correct or confirm

I corrected my post. We need a term for Mistborn/Full feruchemist. Full Metalborn?

Sazed un-savanted him and made him a Mistborn after his Ascension. I am not sure about Spook being weaker, though...

Sazed - Harmony - upgraded him.

Basically, Lestibournes' Mistborn status was of the same Allomantic strength as the other Mistborn in the series, sans Inquisitors, Elend, and TLR.

You forgot Metalborn. The generic word to "User of Allomancy and/or Feruchemy"

I believe the term you are looking for is Fullborn.(I think)

I don't mean a person who is both a full Allomancer (Mistborn) and full Feruchemist. I mean somebody who has all the metals, but only one of the magics. Mistborn xor full Feruchemist.
