lizbusby she/her
Anyone get the feeling that Steris is supposed to be autistic/aspie? All of her planning, her feeling that her social interactions are fake and formulaic. . . .
Voidus
Could be but I'm pretty much the same and don't fall anywhere on the spectrum as far as I know. Just some mild OCD.
vietnamabc
On the other hand if any shrink got their hand on Wayne I wonder what they'll diagnose him with: personality disorder?
Noblehunter
Steris certainly doesn't seem to be neurotypical. I'm not sure autism/aspergers are a good way to describe it though. She was hilarious at the party though. On the other hand if any shrink got their hand on Wayne I wonder what they'll diagnose him with: personality disorder? Wayne doesn't seem dissociative just mutable in his speech and thinking. He's definitely got PTSD.
Argent he/him
One of the recent signing reports confirmed that Steris is closer to Asperger's and Wayne has PTSD.
DreamEternal
Nice to know Brandon is making sure his characters are different even if they share psychological conditions. No one would confuse Shallan's brand of PTSD with Wax's, and no one would think Steris and Renarin behave the same way.
Asperity he/him
One of the recent signing reports confirmed that Steris is closer to Asperger's and Wayne has PTSD. Asperger's doesn't technically exist anymore. Everything is consolidated to the spectrum (Autism Spectrum Disorder) but her observation of people and practicing socialization can easily indicate some social deficiencies, potentially placing her on the spectrum. Wayne having PTSD is interesting to myself as I have that crap too and he's becoming my favorite Cosmere character thus far. Really wish he'd become a worldhopper or some such.
Iarwainiel I she/her
I really like Steris. I can imagine her as as Asperger's, or just as someone so focused on logic and intellect that emotions get eclipsed by the other. I don't get the sense that she's shutting down her feelings because of some past hurt: more that she has been comfortable and (in her estimation) successful in life when she has filtered her experiences through a Mr.-Spock-like filter. I think she makes a nice balance for Wax, who many times acts impulsively based on feelings (meaning that in a good way, not as a weakness). So happy to see her (I assume) on the BoM cover! Teegs
Honestly, I was a little sad when the story left her behind. She was great at the party, and I was interested to see her character develop over the course of the novel. I'm hoping that her being on the cover of the next book is an indication we get to know her more.

Right. I - and Brandon - meant that she is close to where Asperger's used to be.
Kaymyth she/her
Autism also can present quite differently in females than in males; this may be why a lot more boys than girls get diagnosed. A lot of Steris's oddities feel very similar to me to my sort-of-but-not-quite "adopted" sister. I learned a lot about how her thought processes worked from hours of translating human behavior that she found inexplicable.
