  1. Notum said his great-grandmother created his grandfather, who created his father who created him. His great-grandmother was one of the 10 Honorspren the Stormfather created after the Recreance and (except for Syl) all living Honorspren can trace their ancestry to those 10. All the rest died when the Knights Radiant broke their oaths.
  2. One argument worth noting is that if Dalinar did do something unusual like reaching two ideals at once, it probably would be clear enough that we wouldn't be arguing about it. Though, this is fandom, so it's not a very strong argument.
  3. I'm not sure they could physically add more pages to OB. One of the things I like about Sanderson is that he ends his stories when he runs out of book. From the memory stone regarding the Windrunner's fourth ideal and the Skybreaker training it seems when there were extent orders of the KR, potential recruits don't have quite the same difficulties that Kal faced. Being first and alone is always the hardest.
  4. It could be that Cryptics derive from whatever Sja-anat was before she was Unmade. In the same way, the Midnight Mother might have been the progenitor of creation Spren?
  5. Speaking of Connection, that was what needed in the Secret History for the outlanders to pick up Preservation. It also happens to be one of the Bondsmith's particular powers. I'm going with Dalinar Connected with the splinters of Honor for a moment but if he ever gets (enough of?) them back together, they'll be a shard with the intent of Unity, which similar to but not the same as Honor (when it refers to the making and keeping of oaths).
  6. Could the unmade have been the Dawnshards? Other shards turned out to actually be spren, so why not the Dawnshards?
  7. Except Honor doesn't die until after the Recreance, which is way after the Fused started their shenanigans. We don't know enough about shard vs shard to say whether or not the Fused could be a factor in that kind of fight. Maybe they harried Honor's Cognitive aspects while Odium kept him busy. Or maybe shards tend to cancel each other out, so any additional sources of power can tip the balance.
  8. From what we hear from Vasher, Nightblood essentially ended the Manywar by being so terrible Vasher decided to sue for peace.
  9. There may be a difference in 1000 unrecoverable breaths and someone just holding on to 1000.
  10. Venli also managed to be a traitor to the Listeners, by seeking the old gods and then betraying the Fused by bonding a spren.
  11. Don't we have WOB that the Stormfather would have survived the Recreance if he'd been bonded? Though I think the Sibling was the one bonded during the Recreance. Which is why they're sleeping.
  12. 1. No plate tectonics? That's weird. It seems like the sort of thing that would have significant implications. Quick, someone cast "Summon Geologist" 2. I see that as an argument for it. He's introduced the concept of geography affecting magical constructs. That means the idea is available to create a different problem.
  13. Could Urithiru have been made uninhabitable due to an earthquake severing it's connection to the core gemheart and that's why so little works?
  14. From the Secret History, it seems one of the key parts of returning from the Cognitive realm is Connection, which seems to be strongly associated with Honor. Dalinar's language trick is a known use of Connection and it seemed to be part of his Unity CMOA. I think the relationships between the Shards and species on Roshar were really complicated, with loyalties and allegiances shifting back-and-forth. I'm hoping Szeth's flashbacks will shed light on the Shin's history which might be less interrupted than the pre-dominantly Vorin history we've had from now. I'm also hoping the flashbacks we were told would be Eshonai's will be more of a history of the Parsh. I think the Fused showed up in reaction to Human encroachment and signed up with Odium to help drive humans back. As they became increasingly unstable and genocidal, the Oathpact was formed.
  15. I just finished listening to the book. Bloody Bujolds that was painful. After the Dif reveal, I took a break to listen to Penric's Demon because I knew it was going to be bad. I did not expect it to be that bad. I knew I should have downloaded the other Penric books before work.
  16. Magic steel. Stainless would get contaminated and start rusting pretty quickly. Though it says his power wouldn't affect steel so would carbon steel remain carbon steel or would it turn into Steelheart steel? What about it's other properties? A skyscraper made of steel seems like it should be too heavy to support itself. Given that it seems to work by replacing a volume of matter with an equal volume of steel, it'd have to be strong in tension and compression, too, or the less likely shapes would deform. It'd also have to either resist thermal contraction/expansion or be very flexible to avoid cracking from cold or heat (that might be mitigated by being all night all the time). I wonder what it's melting point is? Could it be reforged and cast into different shapes without loosing its magic properties? Could Newcago be mined for its building materials like an old roman road? Can someone ask Brandon?
  17. That's just not fair. Sanderson must be a robot. Not just for the writing but to resist the temptation to chortle revealingly.
  18. It seems Wax has a thing for ridiculously competent women.
  19. I knew the names sounded familiar!
  20. Not to be ungrateful but couldn't there have been one more part? More usefully, I think I know how Kelsier felt staring into Preservation. Everything is so much bigger than we knew.
  21. Stormlight spoilers:
  22. Crossing the barrier should affect objects moving in either direction, like light passing from air into water or vice versa. This cliffhanger isn't very satisfying. Marasi's unlikely to get shot and even more unlikely to get killed. A prelude to something exciting, sure, but but nowhere near as aggravating as the Identity and Investiture bombshell.
  23. Thinking on if the script is from the south continent, could one look at a 10th century latin script and recognize it as the same alphabet as 19th century handwriting (as an example)? Generically, how easy is it to tell two scripts are related if they're a thousand years apart? The kandra could know the ancestor of the script and still not recognize it's modern version.
  24. If one is asleep, how much of their wakefulness are they storing?
  25. We know TenSoon used OreSeur's spike. It didn't seem to bother him. Maybe it's different if a spike is replacing another spike rather than being an addition but it's another reason to give VenDell the side eye. And why would MeLaan switch bodies? She'd used the same True Body for awhile if she was wearing the same face during Shadows of Self that she was wearing when she gave Wax his first earring.
