Adamir he/him
Question: If Brandon ever wanted to browse his forums without getting physically assaulted for answers, and if he ever got sick of typing RAFO every alternate sentence whenever someone asked his account something, what would he do? Implication: He would use an alternate account. Question: Wouldn't browsing the forum with full administrator privileges be far more efficient than using a regular account? Implication: If Brandon has an alt account, it is one of the moderators. Question: Which moderators has no one on the 17th Shard forums seen an actual photograph/video of? Implication: The (most likely pointless) search for Brandon's alt account should be focused on moderators who we have never seen in real life. I haven't been on the forum that long, but so far I can disqualify Chaos via Shardcast and Rubix by his profile picture. Note that, having only been on the 17th Shard for a month, I know almost nothing about the moderators. Question: If we assume that, at the rate Brandon puts out books per year, he wouldn't have that much time to check the forums, how does that narrow our search? Implication: We can narrow the search to moderators who do not maintain a routine of logging on every 1-4 days, as a normal moderator would on most forums. Question: Can a moderator/administrator who isn't given the title of Global Moderator/Administrator still be granted the privileges that allow them to control any forum branch? Implication: If not, we can shorten the search to moderators able to affect every category. Question: How does the 17th Shard software work? Implication: If it were possible to add moderator/administrator privileges to an account without making it public, the search just became completely hopeless. Kobold King he/him
Question: Wouldn't browsing the forum with full administrator privileges be far more efficient than using a regular account? Implication: If Brandon has an alt account, it is one of the moderators. This is the point at which I feel your logic doesn't quite add up. Admin powers, to the best of my knowledge, are added responsibilities rather than privileges. The ability to lock threads, ban users, or read people's private messages wouldn't make forum usage any more "efficient" for him; they would only make his account more conspicuous and likely to be discovered, as you are attempting to do. If Brandon Sanderson has an alt account here, I'd wager he's one of the dozens of lurkers who appear once a blue moon, make a brilliant and well-articulated point on some foggy corner of the forum, and then disappear into the gloom once more. I'd put money on the guess that Brandon's alt account, if it exists, doesn't even have over 20 rep points.
Adamir he/him
You've got a point, Kobold - also why I shouldn't be trusted with power (insert spider-man 'great responsibility' line here), in that I didn't consider the added responsibilities. Although I'll admit that, were I to have a massive forum devoted to my works, I would probably turn on all administrator abilities (locking threads, etc) and rule over as an evil deity until I am deposed by Sharders getting sick of it and moving to other forums. Otherwise known as why I can't be trusted running a forum. Although if Brandon is an infrequent blue-moon poster as you suggested, then that removes a lot of the 'responsibility' aspect of 'moderator'. Being a moderator implies persistence and dedication to the fanbase - which is not something I'm accusing Brandon of lacking, I'm saying he simply doesn't have enough hours in a day to both run the forum and keep it supplied with fresh conversation material in the form of his books. The main reason I'm suspecting moderators is simply because that's what I would do were I in his position and wanted to make posts without getting zergling-swarmed by thousands of fans; why not take that extra ounce of power when you know that you've got a moderation team doing the responsibility aspect? Zas678 he/him
I think that he gets a lot of his online fan interaction from Reddit and Twitter, where he'll answer questions and such, since he knows that he won't be bombarded with stuff like he would here. However, I know Peter reads through these forums, and I bet Peter shows him some things from time to time, whether if it's to say "That's WAY off" or "They actually got it right!" Or to show him Pugs. That too. That being said, I am unable to comment on the presence of Brandon Sanderson as an alt account in 17th Shard.
Adamir he/him
That being said, I am unable to comment on the presence of Brandon Sanderson as an alt account in 17th Shard. I will get suspicious every single time a moderator replies to this thread. Am I getting paranoid in assuming that the first person to say 'I'm not Brandon' is Brandon?
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her
Or to show him Pugs. That too. Hypothetically speaking, if a certain forum member were to attach pug pictures and comics to her AMA questions, would those hypothetical questions have a better chance of being seen and answered? They've also both appeared on episodes of Shardcast/Shardkeepers. EHyde is also a female cosplayer (she's fallenwithstyle over on tumblr) so she is also not Brandon. Suffice it to say, if Brandon has an alt account, it is not on the moderating team.

Voidus
You all think far too small. A moderator? An admin? A lurker?Nay, I say unto you Sharders that Brandon Sanderson is the 17th Shard itself!*Cue dramatic music*Using his numerous contacts in the field of science which he has previously used to fact check certain elements of his writing Brandon has derived a machine which allowed him to upload his consciousness onto the internet in the form of a forum, thereby monitoring in real time the entire communitys response to his writing allowing him to be the insanely efficient and polished writer that we know and love. This is also how he manages to write so quickly, things like typing speed have no bearing when he can just will the words onto his computer.Unfortunately this also means that Brandons brain has some weird opinions on black magic and love problems. Anyway. ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED!
Zathoth
What if we are all actually Brandon? The reason he can write so fast is that he has several minds he can use to come up with ideas. We very well know what Brandon is and what he isn't, he is NOT the 17th shard, he is NOT everyone, He is just the writer we all love and have dedicated this site to.
