mail-mi he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 No, no, no. Not that one. Never that one. Maybe Funtimes' god? Unless, of course, the Great Noodly One and Calamity really are one and the same. (Put here to stop derailing the Obliteration thread) If they are... I don't even want to think about that.

Mailliw73 he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Here's the Corvallis hypnotist's bio. Let me know if anything doesn't fit, Coma. Epic Name: Hypno Human Name: Hector Ponte Weakness: <PM'd to the GM> Primary Power: Hypnosis: He is able to hypnotize anyone he meets. They are then hypnotized for up to an hour, unless he cuts it off. While hypnotized, they will be incredibly prone to suggestion from anyone and will seem dazed. They will be able to focus extremely well on anything they are told to. He can hypnotize around ten people like this at once. Secondary Power: Commands: Hypno can command anyone to do anything. His commands order the person to do as he says and only the strongest willed can resist when he is focusing on them. He can command up to five regular people at once at full strength. The more people he affects, or the strong willed they are, the less his power affects them. At his best, he can command a hundred people, but his commands will be received only as advice. If he commanded a large crowd to jump off a cliff, for instance, they might look at the cliff and then laugh, if they are strong willed, or take a couple steps towards it a bit if they are easily swayed. While commanding only one person, Hypno could force someone to walk off the cliff regardless of their inhibitions. Passive Power: Hypno is impervious to mental powers. Illusions, emotional manipulation, etc. Appearance: Hector is half-Hispanic on his father's side. He is around 5'7", making him shorter than average. He is very thin and wiry. At his age, he isn't very muscular, but as a young adult, he was lean and strong and traces of that can still be seen in his arms. He has dark black hair, now peppered with gray. He has very dark eyes. He likes to dress in a bit of costume, so he wears a dramatic purple and black cape on his suit. He always has a polka dot yellow tie on. Age: 62 Home City: Fairfield, Washington Weaponry: He keeps a handgun in a shoulder holster, but relies on his powers more. Hypno is an arrogant, selfish Epic. He had traces of these emotions before he became an Epic, though not as strong. He lived in Washington most of his life, mainly in Spokane and Fairfield before he moved to Corvallis. As a child, Hector had wanted to be a magician. He had loved seeing their magic tricks and had learned quite a few simple ones. To this day, he still is great at palming objects and distracting people from what he's really doing. As he grew older, he took psychology classes and learned about hypnosis. Instantly intrigued, Hector delved into research about the subject. He watched hypnotists whenever he could. He tried, but never managed to hypnotize his doubtful older brother, Don. After struggling with hypnosis, Hector gave up and began a career in accounting. Before Calamity, he was an accountant at a large company based in Spokane. He was quite wealthy, but greedy and shared nothing with his family. He focused on work and none of his relationships lasted until one. Most gave up on him because of his greed and arrogance, but at 37, he met Denise. She was eight years younger and was selfish herself. She was attracted only to Hector's money. While Hector subconsciously realized this, he never mentioned it or ended the relationship. He wanted love and she wanted money. A year later, they married and moved to Fairfield. He commuted to Spokane for work, but cut almost all ties with his family there. Denise became more greedy and leeched much of Hector's earnings for shopping and various purchases. He put up with it and spent what was left of his money on extravagance as well. At 55, he had enough money and enough investments to retire early. The couple used that time to travel the country and spend more on luxury items. When Calamity rose, Hector built an underground bunker to live in. Approximately four years later, he woke up with powers. The first thing he did was to command his wife to leave the bunker. Watching from a camera he had planted on her, he commanded her to draw the attention of Myst, a powerful Epic in town, using a small earbud. She drew Myst's attention and, following Hypno's command, she attacked the Epic. Obviously outgunned, she was killed almost instantly. Hypno reveled in the powers he had gained, the powers he had coveted as a child. From then on, he used his powers to randomly cause humans to commit suicide. Hypno moved out of Fairfield, heading south to Oregon to find a more stable town to work in. Upon hearing the rumors of a paradise in Corvallis, he headed there immediately. Rainmaker brought him in and gave him a modest sized house and twenty slaves. The arrangement suited Hypno, as he got to lounge about and enjoy the luxuries he had always had, courtesy of Cornucopia, and he had his own retinue of slaves to command about. When called upon, Hypno is used to dispel rebellions by causing repeat offenders to commit suicide, calming the remnants of the rebellion. He also has taken control of dissenters and used them to cause chaos and confusion among other dissenters and rebels. Occasionally, he is given someone to execute and that is his favorite duty. There's a bit of an Easter egg for the observant reader. Coma, how long has Corvallis been ruled by Rainmaker and the Queens? 2

+Slowswift Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I'm baaack! Anyways, here's the revised character profile: Name: Charles Frederick Williamson, aka "Timelock" Primary Power: Time manipulation. Within his line of sight, he can create pockets of distorted time, freeze objects or people, or accelerate the aging of various things. Secondary Powers: Danger sense, tied to his temporal abilities. If something is about to harm him, time freezes so he can step out of the way or avoid touching something. Also has enhanced dexterity. MO: Timelock has been known to freeze time around vital organs, essentially preventing them from doing their job, thus killing the person. If he’s feeling particularly displeased, he’ll speed up time for the entire person, watching as they age in a matter of minutes. Bio: Formerly a linguistics professor at Stanford University. One year after Calamity, he became an Epic His Rending was unusual: instead of going on a killing spree, he merely became a recluse and hired someone else to do his Rending for him. It may or may not have addled his brain – he switches randomly to other languages mid-conversation. After a period of seclusion, he emerged and took over the Bay Area of California. After securing his rule, he traveled north to Oregon. And as Astoria seems to be heating up rather, would that still be a good place for him to be? 2

Okay, the part about him hiring someone else to go on a Rending for him probably isn't canon, but it IS hilarious. I think Astoria would be the right place for his power level.

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Well since both the dog and the rooster are male, it never occurred to me until long after I'd created the character that they shared a name. Somehow female!Sam feels like a different name than male!Sam to me. I'm curious to know what powers those Epics would possess. Epic name: Bruno Primary power: Pitiful eyes. One look into his eyes, and you will want to give him whatever he asks for, no matter how little he needs it. Modus Operandi: Uses his power to beg delicacies from the more powerful Epics in town. As a result, he is very fat, but this only makes his begging powers more effective. Weakness: If he doesn't sleep in a real bed, he becomes agitated and keeps everyone awake out of spite. Epic name: Mollie Primary power: Like a weeping angel, she can move like lightning when no one is watching. When they are watching, she pretends innocence. Modus Operandi: Like Bruno, she uses her power to steal food from the rich and powerful. She genuinely enjoys every morsel she steals, but she prefers coconut water and deviled eggs. Weakness: Books by Richard Atkins remind her of the day she realized she was gluten intolerant, and was banned from eating things like donuts and buttermilk biscuits. 1
Voidus Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Phew, I swear you guys are filling up pages exponentially faster when I'm asleep Also, a question that's going to become relevant pretty soon: Would it make sense for Frostfire to be able to take his own kinetic energy while falling, and reapply it to himself, rotated ninety degrees? (In essence, using Frostfire's powerset as currently described, would it make sense for him to be able to fly?) Depends on a few things, what's the frame of reference for his power? Because velocity is relative to the observer and so Kinetic energy is too, so if he's the frame of reference then logically he couldn't shift his own kinetic energy at all.As others pointed out the most he could do if he could absorb his own KE is change a downward fall into a diagonal fall. Ok. Here's what I have so far. Original Name: Jonathon Thorouwmis Epic Name: The Equalizer Power: Can change anything to something else that shares at least three of the following characteristics: weight, mass, volume, material. Jonatthon was born in a small town in Wisconsin. His father died when he was 5 in a lumberjacking accident when a tree fell on his head. he could have escaped, but he ran straight ahead instead of taking a few steps to the side. Ten years later, his mother, having taken his father's job, did the same thing. Calamity apprently noticed the potential for idiocy because later that week, he turned?(what's the technical term?) into an Epic and destroyed the town by turning the ground underneath the entire town into an extremely dense 1' by 1' by 1' cube of dirt. Everyone fell to their deaths except Jonathon, now calling himself The Equalizer, who went to go avenge his family by destroying all trees. (not the sharpest cookie in the drawer) As Edge pointed out, weight and mass aren't exactly the same thing but unless he's planning on leaving earth they may as well be the same so I don't know how necessary including them both is. Voidus, could you do a physik check on what would happen to a cube that dense. My money is on it exploding from the lack of pressure to hold it in that density. Which at the same time make me worry about the unlimted potential for energy, as well as the ability to freely reshape the entire earth and atmosphere. But we understand Twi. There shall be a Revalation of Fanon, never seen before! It's kind of hard because there's not exactly a physics equation for determining what happens if dirt gets supernaturally compressed, but the problem is that solid matter really doesn't compress that well no matter how hard you put pressure on it, you're talking black hole levels of pressure necessary for that, off the top of my head I'm pretty sure that would explode pretty instantly and if it didn't the pressures going to start causing fusion reactions which would make it essentially a nuke. I don't think so. If he can slowly absorb his kenidic energy, and then slowly release it, then I think he wouldn't get whiplash.I came up with this idea when thinking about uses for Converter's power, so really hope this is feasible. That would work, although you'd get diminishing returns, so you'd fly up a lower amount each successive jump.
TheSilverDragon he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Phew, I swear you guys are filling up pages exponentially faster when I'm asleep That would work, although you'd get diminishing returns, so you'd fly up a lower amount each successive jump. Or when I'm not looking. What she absorbed the heat caused by friction and turned it into kinetic energy? Should she then be able to jump.to the same height each time?
Mailliw73 he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 No, he's too old for that. His father? Grandfather? Don is Flashpoint's grandfather. Hector is his great-uncle. I decided that when I decided to name him Hector P. I just had to make them related. Neither has seen the other for many, many years and neither knows theta the other is an Epic. Between the two of them, Flashpoint's immediate family is all dead. Yes please! Hmmm, tough one. At least a year, but not more than two maybe? Sounds good to me. So Hypno's was wandering for a few years prior.

Blackhoof Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Well it took me all day but I finally got the time to read through Comatose's massive intro post which was Epic! Euphoria's a great character, I hope we can see more of her even in the circumstances. Plenty of other great Epic ideas in there too, I may just have to step up my game. Also why have the mobiles not been mentioned in the RP before that I know of? I feel like even though they're an integral part of the books I keep forgetting they exist when I write my posts. Anyways, kudos on an excellent post Coma! Mobiles are only prevalent in Newcago because of a deal Steelheart made with the Knighthawk Foundry, to keep better control of his people.
Blackhoof Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I'm excited for Corvallis! I'll get an Iconoclast post up, as soon as I verify it with Comatose
