Kobold King he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 True. It also makes Reader even more of a slontze for bringing up Ty, though. Reader finding new and creative ways to be a slontze doesn't even surprise me any more. I just hope he never gets the chance to have a one-on-one chat with Scribbler.
Mailliw73 he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Eep. I just thought of a few reasons Reader might reference, and they're all horrifying. Poor Edgerunner. Yeah. Abusive boyfriend plus that fear equals squicky nasty unhappiness. Reader's a slontze. That's why Emma flipped out at him. She almost killed him right there and then. With her two possible love interests, they better treat her right. She deserves a happy relationship and a happy ending.
+Slowswift Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Might I trouble you fine folks for a quick summary of Astoria, so I can make sure everything's up to speed with my character before I post him? Nothing lengthy (and I realize Astoria's like only four pages, but that's still a fair amount of material), just something brief would be fine.
Kobold King he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Yeah. Abusive boyfriend plus that fear equals squicky nasty unhappiness. Reader's a slontze. That's why Emma flipped out at him. She almost killed him right there and then. With her two possible love interests, they better treat her right. She deserves a happy relationship and a happy ending. Absolutely. She does not need another slontze. My Dalles backstories are pretty tame by comparison. Vondra lost a son during Koschei's invasion, which is pretty terrible, but aside from that there's really just the facts that Glamour's parents divorced and that Redlight was bullied and mocked for being a bit plump. And of course Backtrack, who thinks he has the most tragic backstory in The Dalles.

And of course Backtrack, who thinks he has the most tragic backstory in The Dalles. From The Ballad of Backtrack, Book One: And upon this day, when the sun was bright Backtrack was smitten with plywood's might A splinter lodged in his finger true "Woe is me!" he cried as the wind blew Off his hat, he hadn't known he'd liked Until that moment when it became a kite He coiled up on the ground so cold Feeling as lowly as blue-green mold. CHORUS Oh Backtrack, Backtrack, when will the fates decide You have had enough? When will they lose their pride? 4
Blackhoof Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Ooh, can you do an iconoclast pony! Or can i? Is it a difficult program to use? But afterwards is a totally different matter. When you put it like that, she is kind of op. I hadn't thought about stopping oxygen from circulating, that is a very cool way t use her power. Whould that kill steelheart? Or would his picture stop that? She could always absorb some energy from the sun, or from some birds, insects or even people. well she would have to touch something to absorb energy from it, right? So shed need to touch all the air around someone (or just in front if their face) to stop circulation.
Comatose he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I'd tell you about Euphoria's back-story, but that would involve spoilers... Doesn't stop me from world-building it though. Now to wait until a time comes when I can slip it in...
+Slowswift Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Huzzah, I posted my first character in Astoria! This is rather fun. How do you all feel about self-insertion? Not that I was planning it or anything, completely hypothetical, why do you ask...
Mailliw73 he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Since I think it got overshadowed by Edgerunner's weakness reveal , I'll ask again: Does anyone in Corvallis want their character to meet up with Hypno?
Kobold King he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Arsenal / Deathwish post up. Fun fact: I didn't deliberately include the word "immoral" in Arsenal's rant twice, but after publishing I realized it fit him so I declined to edit the post. 1
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Arsenal / Deathwish post up. Fun fact: I didn't deliberately include the word "immoral" in Arsenal's rant twice, but after publishing I realized it fit him so I declined to edit the post. What a charming man. "Hello, high ranking official. I think you're a moron. Please say things that will justify my own belief." Though I will admit he has an excellent point; he just conveyed it in the grouchiest way possible. 2

Yeah, Autumn had best be prepared for all kinds of lectures when this blows over. Chief among them being "We do not bring our supervillain girlfriends into the command center without clearance."
Mailliw73 he/him Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 This thread was started on the 28th of March. We are on page 75. It is April 13. Why? Dear Winter, you ask the wrong Question. The correct Question is "Why not?" 1

Blackhoof Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I'm both posting these questions here and PMing them to Winter in case here they get lost in jokes and ponies haha Hey Winter, I just wanted to work out with you how Ghouls will interact with the whole tagging thing Chase can do. So I had a few questions:-How much information can Chase gain from any given tagged vanilla?-How much attention can Chase give to each and every vanilla? Obviously she would likely notice important people, but would she notice say, what happened to the three vanillas Iconoclast attacked? there are lots of vanillas in Corvallis, after all-Does she know where exactly where everyone is? Or is the information just too overwhelming except when dealing with specific people she already knows personally?-Is the tag purely physical, or mental as well?-Would Ghoulification feasibly sever the Chain?
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 That's Arsenal in a nutshell. Yeah, Autumn had best be prepared for all kinds of lectures when this blows over. Chief among them being "We do not bring our supervillain girlfriends into the command center without clearance." Well. If said supervillain girlfriend has been vetted during a crisis, what better way to ensure said supervillain girlfriend is kept in line than by taking her to a man who can literally create weapons out of thin air? 1
Kobold King he/him Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Well. If said supervillain girlfriend has been vetted during a crisis, what better way to ensure said supervillain girlfriend is kept in line than by taking her to a man who can literally create weapons out of thin air? Thatta girl TwiLyght. Start coming up with those excuses. Oh, and Blackhoof: the pony creator is here. 1
Comatose he/him Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Fun Corvallis facts that I'm learning from reading their wikipedia page: Was briefly the capital of the Oregon territory before Salem was chosen for the government seat. Benton County, the population of which is mostly Corvallis citizens, is the least religious county per capita in the States. In 2008, it was ranked 48th best place to live in the United States, and was ranked the second highest in Oregon (only behind Portland which was in 6th place). Part of the Tree City USA program, and has 47 parks. Has a higher education rate than any other city in Oregon (likely due to the University). The Van Buren bridge, which makes a cameo in the prologue, is the third oldest bridge crossing the Willamette River. Corvallis is among the top cities in the nation in terms of buying electricity produced from renewable resources. Research is sooo addicting. I was googling schools in the district earlier for a flash back scene . I think Euphoria might be fluent in Spanish. 4
TheSilverDragon he/him Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Here is Converter's hopefully final powers Primary power: The ability to absorb, convert, and release any type of energy in a 10 ft radius. She can also retain the energy she has absorbed, but she loses 10% of it per hour if she is calm, and up to 90% if she is really angry. She doesn't have a limit to how much energy she can hold, but keeping the energy can be a problem. (Don't let her near a power plant, that would extremely bad.) She can only give energy to an object if she is touching it, otherwise the energy she releases acts in its normal way. (Heat: convection/radiation.) If she has enough electrical energy, she can cause a static charge to build up on her hands that can then jump?? to other object, like lightning. She can absorb her own energy, but that really isn't helpful except for her kinetic energy. She can absorb her kinetic energy if she falls. She could, is she wanted to, stop air from circulating around a person, but that would require immense concentration, so she couldn't use it in a fight, and she couldn't be distracted by anything, or else the air would flow again. She also can't control how the energy acts once she releases it. Secondary power: Reincarnation. When she dies, all energy she has is released and her body is then reformed in an explosion, one that isn't caused by her death. She has some control over where she reforms, but not a lot. She can choose a general region, about 100 miles radius, but other than that, she has no control. Sometimes she doesn't choose at all, and reappears at random. Once her body reforms, she automatically absorbs all of the energy of that explosion. Personality: When she is reincarnated, she is usually is really angry, and goes on a minny rendering. Once she stops that, she is pretty easy to get along with, for a time. After a while she gets kind of bored, so she usually lets herself get killed, just to a change of scenery. Her longest time in between reincarnations is about six months. Hope you like it
Aonar he/him Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 More like in descending curves than strictly diagonal but yeah. I think splitting her energy would still cause trouble, because first she would need to accelerate and then leeching from her would decelerate her, meaning he couldn't take unlimited kinetic energy from her. There's also the problem for adjusting to their different weights etc. With enough practice they could probably pull something off but getting the balance right at first try seems implausible. Now, what they should be able to do is having Frostfire put himself in that artificial zero G we talked about and then letting Edgerunner pull him along. Close enough. Still not exactly what I'd call impressive. I don't know about that. Frostfire's power is very instinctual, especially with his passive ability to gauge the energy inherent in objects around him. He definitely wouldn't get the balance right straight away, he wouldn't be far off, and he'd be able to adjust as they went. Would this work though? I know he can levitate by reapplying his kinetic energy as he's falling, but what happens when he starts moving again? Should he be able to selectively filter kinetic energy depending on its vector? Wouldn't this just become effectively the same problem as him trying to fly on his own? He's robbing himself of kinetic energy, and moving it somewhere else, but then, as Edgerunner starts to pull him away, suddenly there's no kinetic energy to transfer, as his net motion will be in whatever direction Edgerunner is pulling him in, right? And then she's effectively just dragging him along. Once again, there's a better than good chance I'm understanding this all wrong, but I wouldn't mind a more in-depth explanation of how this would work.
Blackhoof Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) So Converter can absorb energy from a distance? Edited April 14, 2015 by Blackhoof
Kestrel she/her Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) Glad to see the new rp up. Now its really time for me to get cracking on my character. Still at the same storming spot. :/ I need to sit down and focus for an hour, but that's so hard with school and homework and the general will to do absolutely nothing that's been creeping up on me lately. Mailliw73 he/him Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 To my mind, Frost fire should be able to leech off Edgerunner's movement and half their speed, while both are flying. It just makes sense. I have no idea of the physics, but I thought that basically, she'd flip her gravity and then he'd absorb her kinetic energy and apply it to himself, causing hi to fall that direction too. Am I way off here?
Aonar he/him Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) To my mind, Frost fire should be able to leech off Edgerunner's movement and half their speed, while both are flying. It just makes sense. I have no idea of the physics, but I thought that basically, she'd flip her gravity and then he'd absorb her kinetic energy and apply it to himself, causing hi to fall that direction too. Am I way off here? The problem as I see it is simply that he has to overcome his inertia, and then siphon off enough energy to negate the force of gravity and maintain forwards movement. As kinetic energy is related to mass, and Edgerunner is presumably pretty light from her description, he'd need a very large initial burst of energy to get moving, and a correspondingly high velocity from Edgerunner. After that, there aren't really any problems, although their speed would be a lot more than halved, as he's transferring the kinetic energy involved, not the gravitational force. A lot of this could be solved by saying that Frostfire's powers encompass potential energy as well, in which case he wouldn't need a burst of energy to overcome his inertia, just enough gravitational potential to cancel out and surpass the gravitational force acting on him normally. However, I'm not sure what the implications of this would be in terms of what extra he could do outside of limited flight, so I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Edited April 14, 2015 by Aonar Faileas
