Which subreddit is this AMA on?

r/books.

Should we coordinate our questions a little bit, just to make sure nobody asks duplicate questions?

Absolutely.

How many questions should each person ask? (And if I'm not there asking questions (my username there is the same one I use here) go ahead and ask mine. It doesn't matter who asks them; just that they get asked.)

I will unfortunately probably be asleep for the whole thing so anyone feel free to steal any of my questions. Especially the ARC question. :P

I'm asking about Night's Sorrow and West Coast Epics for sure, so nobody else needs to ask about those.

I'll ask your questions for you, TwiLyght. :) I'll ask one of Voidus', too; hopefully asking three questions for myself and three more for good friends won't go against AMA policies. If I ask one of yours, Voidus', which one should it be?

Well the Nightwielder one's the one that's bugged me the most but the one about David's system or the one about power relation to history would probably be more useful. In short, I have no idea

I thought asking about Epic tech, otherwise I would be happy to take the question about Nightwielder and the classifications.

Is it about the requirements for building a Motivator? If not I have another question, because why did they trade what seemed to just be small vials of blood but Obliteration needed a chunk of his chest removed?

OK, here's what I'll be posting the instant the clock strikes 2 PM Eastern time:

Hi ho, Mr. Brandon Sanderson! I'm more Thrilled to be posing these questions to you than I was in that Parshendi skirmish last week. So without further ado, here are a few questions from one devoted fan to his idol:

1) Is there anything you can tell us about the Epic called Night's Sorrow-- his/her gender, powers, or area of influence, perhaps?

2) Can you tell us anything about High Epic despots on the West Coast? (And as a participant of a Reckoners RPG taking place in pre-Turf Wars Oregon, let me assure you that absolutely anything you say here can and will be incorporated into a lengthy and convoluted set of fanon. ;) )

These next three questions aren't from me; rather, they're from a pair of highly devoted Sanderfans who are unable to get online during this marvelous time. So if you wouldn't mind answering their burning queries:

1) Why doesn't Nighwielder's weakness penetrate his blanket over Newcago when it does pierce the shadow tendrils he attacks David with?

These two questions have spoilers for Firefight, as a warning for the uninitiated:

[is the fear of losing one's loved ones a valid or potentially valid candidate for becoming an Epic's weakness?](#s)

[Did Conflux face his weakness, and remove it in so doing?](#s)

That's exactly what I wanted to ask.

I still need a bit time but I'll also post my questions here before the Reddit starts.

Kobold would you mind adding a little theory of mine to the Nightwielder part? Details when I have more time to type.

Sure, I could do that.

Also, it occurs to me that now, with Brandon Sanderson sitting at his computer to answer our questions, is the perfect time to ask for Regalia's weakness. Reckon I'd be overloading my post if I added that? Does anyone else want to ask him?

Ugh. I'm so anxious for this to start, I wrote part of a "Let it Go" parody about it:

My eyes are glued to the Reddit today
This wait is driving me crazy
My obsession with this author
Borders on idolatry
My brain is pounding with the questions I will ask
Keeping from squealing is becoming quite the task.

Refresh the page, glance at the clock
I'm so anxious, I can barely talk
So many things I need to knooooow...
I'd even take a RAFO!

What's the time? What's the time?
I'm so anxious I can't even rhyme!
What's the time? What's the time?
When will my phone alarm chime?

Here I'll sit
Staring at Reddit
I will wait all day...
My questions aren't RAFO-bait anyway.

Here's what I have:

Hello Mr. Sanderson, given that I can’t go to signings this is actually pretty exciting. Anyway, on to the questions.

  1. Concerning the terminology for Epics, the definitions given for High Epics and a prime Invincibility are effectively the same, meaning every High Epic should have one. However, in Steelheart David says that only a couple of the hundredths of High Epics in Newcago have one. Did David change his terminology between books or is there another reason. (I would also appreciate definitions for what differentiates a minor from a lesser Epic.)
  2. While Epics already age slower can their powers protect them from aging completely, be it by simply negating it or for example returning them to a specific age, upon resurrection.
  3. What exactly is needed to make a motivator? [in Firefight they operated on Obliteration to build the bomb, yet people still trade with any amount of Epic cells. Does the amount simply relate to power or is there something else?](/s)

What I wanted to the Nightwielder bit is this: Could the reason be that his clouds act as some kind of “security blanket” if for example he got his weakness from being stranded in the dessert clouds like his would have protected him from the sun, which keeps the UV-rays of the sun from triggering his weakness, because they can’t recreate the situation it originates from.

I'd be willing to take the Nightwielder question from you, if you want to ask about Regalia, Kobold.

Looks good to me! I'm dying to ask about Regalia, so I'd love it if you could ask the Nightwielder question instead, if you don't mind.

Sure, I care a good amount about that anyway. Also I'm now Dancingedge, because Edgedancer was already taken. :( (I thought about calling myself Edgedanger. :P )

And just to have another copy, that's updated:

It's surprising how  many of us have Reddit name-doppelgangers. :P

I'm not very suprised about my name. The KR orders seem to make popular user names, is just let others a lot of time on Reddit. In your clase it's clearly a case of impersonating someone famous. :P

I wonder how many people would show up if I did a Reddit AMA. :P

Depends on how many people know your books. :P (Still waiting for my signed copy.)

Not long now! Argh! I hated the book this word is from, but I'm so nervous-cited for the AMA!

I actually wanted to write something for the RP but I'm to nervous.

Twi, did you already decide on your question?

Posted

Looking at the questions it seems that someone else also asked for Regalia's weakness.

Huh. Didn't notice that. Well, it makes it twice as likely for us to receive an answer to the question, right? :P
