Dunkum he/him Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Put up a Bendalloy bubble while storing mental speed and physical speed.that seems like it would be really useful, actually. if you did it right, youd be reacting/moving at the same rate as the rest of the world, while at the same time storing up a fair amount of mental and physical speed. basically, you'd be storing the speed without the downsides. now doing it the other way: burning cadmium, then tapping physical and mental speed seems like it is more likely to just be a waste of the stored attributes 1
king of nowhere Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 that seems like it would be really useful, actually. if you did it right, youd be reacting/moving at the same rate as the rest of the world, while at the same time storing up a fair amount of mental and physical speed. basically, you'd be storing the speed without the downsides. now doing it the other way: burning cadmium, then tapping physical and mental speed seems like it is more likely to just be a waste of the stored attributes actually it isn't. you are at your normal speed, but everyone in a short radius around you is slowed down dramatically. so you could, for example, beat peoople up and others would not be able to help them because if they come close to you they are slowed as well. actually, on second thought, if you hhave vast reserves of feruchemical zinc and steel then you can stilll beat them up while you are much faster than them, and you gain absolutely nothing by putting you into a cadmium bubble. so yeah, it's useless. it can at most be used to play pranks to other people.

I think there might be a way to come up with a use for it, but I think it would be a lot harder to do vs the bendalloy example.
Voidus Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 You'd still get the bullet bending effects of the bubble so it'd still be pretty useful.
Fatebreaker he/him Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Awaken a car with the command "Tailgate." Stamp a chameleon to always be visible. Awaken a scare crow with the command "Attract crows." 2
Ari he/him Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Putting up a bendalloy bubble around yourself while cooking so other people don't have to wait for dinner.
natc Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 "correct"? Because there will definitely be parents crazy enough to see the need of "correcting" things like that. Drives people to suicide it does. On a less creepy note, now that I think about it it fixes hermaphrodites. I imagine that to be a troublesome condition for a baby. Use pushes and pulls to rewire your friend's home theater system when he isn't looking. Alternatively use emotional allomancy to train people to be addicted to awkward things. 1
lookingglass she/her Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Having the royal locks when everyone around you is colour blind.
kinxer he/him Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 You'd still get the bullet bending effects of the bubble so it'd still be pretty useful. Oh. OH. Um... Off-topic due to usefulness, but that does bring up the possibility of using a bunch of Cadmium to defend an outpost until reinforcements arrive or blocking a chokepoint with a Cadmium bubble to facilitate evacuation/escape behind it. On a less useful/more mundane note: After a tough breakup, store the memories of the relationship in a Coppermind, then use that copper to make Thermite. Ignite the Thermite and walk away. 8
Left he/him Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 After a tough breakup, store the memories of the relationship in a Coppermind, then use that copper to make Thermite. Ignite the Thermite and walk away. Actually I really like this one
Dunkum he/him Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 there is definitely something appealing about literally destroying bad memories in a blazing inferno 2

If your ex is a Feruchemist who uses the same trick, couldn't you get caught in an endless loop of getting together, breaking up, forgetting one another, and repeating the experience all over again? king of nowhere Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 there is definitely something appealing about literally destroying bad memories in a blazing inferno yeah, but generallly bad memories are useful for character development. If your ex is a Feruchemist who uses the same trick, couldn't you get caught in an endless loop of getting together, breaking up, forgetting one another, and repeating the experience all over again? that's a fine example of what i meant. so by erasing them you'd gain nothing of it. I'd see it less as useful and more as counterproductive. 1
Paragrin she/her Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 You'd write yourself a note/leave enough memories to tell you "I had a relationship with (X) and it didn't go well". 2
Surgebound Rainspren he/him Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 an AonTia designed to teleport you....to exactly to same spot you where standing. 1
kinxer he/him Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Too many people replying to mine to quote, but basically it's useless because, as King of Nowhere said, bad memories are useful for character development. If we don't have those memories, we make the same mistakes again. Now, this could be mitigated by only removing some of the memories, and thus making it less functional but still as symbolic. In the same vein, if you have love letters or somesuch from an ex, put them in a box, lock the box, and use an enormous amount of Stormlight to quadruple-Lash it upward. (Also, I'm happily in a relationship. So don't read into this. )
Kobold King he/him Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 (edited) You'd write yourself a note/leave enough memories to tell you "I had a relationship with (X) and it didn't go well". I'm beginning to think that Archivists keep mildly terrifying notebooks. "Susanna Jones--never again." "St. Bernards--never again." "Jumping on the bed--never again." "Contracting the flu--never again." "Hiring a hitman--never again. (Also, if the CIA comes by, destroy this notebook and act as oblivious as I know you are." "Chick-fil-A on Wilson Street--never again." "Destroying my copperminds--never again." "Archivists Anonymous meeting--never again." Edited February 23, 2015 by Kobold King 6
kinxer he/him Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 "Destroying my copperminds--never again." Oh, the irony of destroying the memories of destroying one's copperminds... Train yourself to a level of skill with Allomantic iron and Allomantic steel at which you can write by pushing and pulling on a pen. Discover you have bad handwriting like that, too. 4
Shard of Adonalsium Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Burn several hundred beads of atium while playing a game of CS : GO and get VAC-banned for hacking. Compound a goldmind after a failed BASE jump Awaken your friend's pencil to "scribble on things" during a test. Lash yourself around the school to avoid walking. Burn pewter while drinking beer in a drinking contest. Soulcast water to beer, and excrement to water. 2
Shard of Adonalsium Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Watch "Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life", and fill a coppermind immediately after. Then burn the coppermind. 1
Shard of Adonalsium Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Not really a "useless" thing, but soulcast a piece of wood into atium and burn it to win a game of tag. Burn bendalloy so that you can leisurely pull out your notes or phone and look up the answers to a test. 2
Shard of Adonalsium Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Awaken a broom to make you feel like Harry Potter in his Quidditch game against Slytherin. 6
Paragrin she/her Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Archivists *truly* anonymous - they store the memory of who they are before going to meetings! 2

Kobold King he/him Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Lash important Items (keys/wallet/phone) to the ceiling.and watch you friends try to find them (hours of fun) On that note, use Lashings and a variety of small household knick-knacks to actually write the word "gullible" on the ceiling. Tell as many people as you can when they enter the room. 1
