I think the first thing to note is that the position of Shards is sensitive info. Once Odium and co. know where the shards are, they can use both their kills effectively. So - not the first game it's been said, and probably not the last - don't give away your role, or lack of role, easily. Awakeners should be careful who they talk to as well. (Odium and co. can't double-tap to get through a layer of protection, though they may do so anyway at the start if they want to avoid the uncertainty.)

A few thoughts:

-Does there need to be a Fallen Shard for Endowment to use their Investiture ability? If not, and they know the identity of a Shard other than Odium, consider Investing them just for the sake of the message.

-If Cultivation is starting multiple PMs this turn, it's safer for them not to be included in every group.

-In terms of role distribution, I would guess Odium and co. will probably have an Awakener (to sort out how to apply their kills), possibly a Poisoner, possibly a Lifeless Operator.

edit: someone was Awakening with my blue text

A couple of ideas for the start of the game, while the rules are fresh in my mind.

- Shards, don’t be shy with your investitures. Since shards are safe roles, if you get the, “Your Target cannot receive Investiture.”message, you’ll know that that person has a 7/8 chance of being good. That might be particularly useful for Cultivation.

- Same goes for any Awakeners.

- I’m entertaining the thought of Ruin not killing anyone, and having any Bloodsealers try and catch Odium, but it’s a bit of a shot in the dark (not to mention a game wrecker).

Other than that I'm at a loss for where to start, but since we are on a day turn, and there is a distinct lack of a Wyrm, Gramps. Penny for your thoughts?

Edit: Format disaster.

Heh, I'm at just as much as a loss as you right now, Eol. :P I usually tend to not do too much in depth analysis of roles and interactions until games start, so I haven't come up with very much at all yet. I still have to compile a Player ListTM! O.o It does look like we will be able to use some of the roles and Shards to find and trap Odium and his champs.

And since it looks like we're still doing the poke votes, what say ye,
Bort? (Since you are also currently viewing the thread, and that's why Elo poked me, I assume) :P

[Will add some RP later when I have some time to get settled from work. :D]

Edit: Retracted vote. Poke votes don't seem to be accomplishing much at the moment. :P

Well, if Eolkin poked Gramps, and Gramps poked me, then I think it is only fair to complete the circle and poke Eolkin.

What is this party at Keep Hobbes turning into?

Posted

Gramps. A poke circle huh? No comment.

And safe roles unless I am awfully mistaken, mean they are on the 'village side'. In other words, a Shard cannot be one of Odiums followers.

What do you mean, Bort?

Ok, so Eolkin was poking Gramps, but has apparently decided to poke elsewhere... Our poke circle is broken :(

Bort, what did you mean about the party?

And, do we just vote for pretty much anyone at this point?

I don't think this game wants a day one lynch. Each game is different, and the way roles are concentrated here makes a lynch less than ideal. We do not want to mislynch a shard.

If Cognition had a head, he would be shaking it. Humans and their obsession with titles and roles. They always placed so much importance on them, as if they were worth more than an analytical mind. Battles weren't decided by those that had the best, specialized units, but by the general with the most information. Considering his simulations had correctly predicted a 98.2% chance that Odium would initially target the command structure of the 17th Shard, they were definitely at war.

Odium had struck first and he had the resources to strike quickly. He gave these worldhoppers a 88% of having multiple of them dead before the next day. Not exactly an ideal situation for them to sit around and wait for information. It was only logical that they go out of their way to find the information they needed to stop Rayse. They weren't going to get it by sitting around and waiting and they weren't going to get it by half-heartedly poking at each other.

Cognition was more than capable of traveling to other worlds, but he still hadn't perfected the transition to the physical realm yet. This annoyed him greatly since he understood the principals and yet they never came out right. Obviously, there was a component that he had not yet considered. As such, he appeared a little stormcloud, no larger than a basketball, hovering in the air.

"You humans always run when you should pause and pause when you should act! Rayse is far too clever for indecisiveness. That is why The Second Sky has attracted my attention. We cannot waste time on frivolous squabbling and we will need the combined skill of everyone to combat Rayse. To that end, we need everyone to be a part of the discussion!"

Most of my thoughts are up there, but I do have one suggestion that I wanted to spell out a little clearer: I suggest that whomever has Ruin should use it to kill off inactives and lurkers until we have more solid suspicions. This will make it so that Odium and his champions will have to speak up if they don't want to be killed early (which will help when it comes to finding them) and will provoke more people to contribute! It takes away a place for team Rayse to hide amongst and, when/if the game gets close later down the line, the game won't be decided by whether or not the lurkers/inactives come back or not. We also learn what roles they had, so we have a better understanding of what is likely still in play.

So if there is someone who hasn't checked in by the time night rolls around- well, they had plenty of time to step forward. If they are that busy that they weren't even capable of checking in within two days, then they're unlikely going to be much help to us anyways.

Bort, what did you mean about the party?

My joke about the party was referring to the circle of people poking each other.

And, as it's still day one, it would probably be best to vote for no-one rather than anyone.

Since our circle poke is broken, Eolkin. Gramps is still poking me though, so I guess we can poke each other.

Edit: Gramps. Ok, we can poke each other later instead.

Huh, I actually just had retracted my vote on you, refreshed the page, and saw your vote. >.<

"Go on, get off my lawn, you young nuisance! Don't make me yell at you again!"

Just got a player list ready. first game so I'm not really sure how to start but I'm suspicious of people who seem to be taking a leading role so early. I also think that telling ruin to kill lurkers/inactives could be the work of an eliminator if they all plan to be active. I know it's a stretch but i'm putting in my first vote (very tentative) oCognition.

EDIT for blue EDit again for vote removal

Vinyerian... er, that is, "Brightlord" Dagar... awoke earlier than normal from his evening slumber with an uneasy feeling.  Were he located in a galaxy far, far away a long time ago, he might have said that he felt a great disturbance in the force. He knew that any little thing could affect one's senses, though, so he initially dismissed this feeling as being due to an undigested bit of beef, or a blot of mustard, or a fragment of an underdone potato.  Why, there could be more of gravy than of grave to this unsettling feeling, he thought.

As he arose and set about his normal duties assisting the local huntmaster, however, the sense of forboding did not go away.  Something had happened, and Vinyerian somehow inherently knew it was related to his newfound ability to leap between worlds. He had no choice but to figure out its cause.  After a decent lunch, and without even a "by your leave" from his now-former master, Vineyerian struck out to find others that had these world-leaping abilities (he was certain they must exist) and see if they needed his help.

I'm new at this, so I'm just dabbling in the RP, I guess.   I don't think it's a good idea for me to accuse someone so early, especially since I have no idea what I'm talking about! :)

I think I'm going to cry. I just finished writing a long RP on mobile, and then I tried to add something at the beginning right before I posted it. But I accidentally hit my profile pic, and since mobile has no autosave function, I lost everything......Someone give me a hug or something.

After waiting out the Highstorm (he learned the name from the family who had taken him in) and convincing those had sheltered him that he was sane, at least partially, he decided to head to the Stargate (the name, which of course he didn't steal, he had made up for the places he world hops from) to see if he could find any signs of pursuit.

As he walked he thought of the things he had learned about this planet so far. So they use the strange glowing gems as money and if they don't glow they may be counterfeit. Very useful thing to know. If the point of the women wearing the glove was to keep it safe then why only one glove and what are they trying to keep it safe from?

Clink was so lost in thought about all the curiosities of this world that he walked straight into the pool where he had first appeared on the planet. He immediately looked up and saw a group of people staring at him from the other side of the pool.

I should really pay more attention he thought.

"Hello friends, I don't suppose you just magically appeared in that pool with the purpose of murdering me because that would be quite rude"

Rule Clarifications:

1: Cultivation's Vote:

  • If Cultivation votes in the thread for Bob, but has their real vote be on Carol, it will look like this:

    Bob(1):

    Carol(1): Alice, David(Cultivation)

So Their name won't be revealed flat out, but towards the end people will be able to figure out who they are.

2: A New PM world will be made each Cycle. Otherwise people could read what happened the last cycle.

3: Shards who invest during the night are considered to have invested last night, so they can use their Power today.

4: The Poisoner cannot change his hostage.

5: I never said there was only one of each Minor role.

6: NO PM COPY/PASTING. You are allowed to copy/paste the people in the World PM's, but you cannot copy/paste anything people say. This goes for the Evil team as well. YOu are allowed to Paraphrase though.

As Satrams woke from his drunken stupor, he noticed three things. For starters, he had no idea where he was. He dimly remember passing out at the bar on Threnody, but this looked nothing like that. In fact, he was fairly certain that this was an entirely different world. He wasn't sure which one it was of course, but it certainly wasn't one he had visited before. Second, he realized that he was wearing a hat. This was even stranger than his first observation. He had never worn a hat before, and he was fairly certain that he hadn't seen one like this on Threnody. So why was it perched on top of his head? As he pondered this, he noticed the strangest thing of all. A storming Inquisitor was staring at him, with anger written on his face.

"You thought you killed me, but you can never kill an Inquisitor. I'm going to enjoy watching you die, Hoid."

At this, Satrams was even more confused. He tried sputtering out a response, "W-w-w-w-wait, wait a second! I'm not Hoid! I killed almost 20 people in an attempt to find him. Why the hell do you think I'm Hoid!"

"Don't try to play dumb Hoid. I saw you take out all the new members of the seventeenth shard. You're a dead man."

"What the hell are you talking about? Last I checked, the group from Kholinar was heading to that meeting, when I *ahem* demanded payment for my services. They dropped me off in some god-forsaken woods, and left me to fend for my self. They said they would pick me up in a few hours after I learned my lesson. Of course, I immediately headed to the nearest drinking hole and drowned out my sorrows. I passed out after a couple of rounds, and now I'm suddenly here, staring into your ugly mug!"

"Hmmph. Do you really think I'm going to fall for that? It's been three months since that disastrous meeting. Also," Kae plucked the hat from Satrams's head. "why would you be wearing that hat? I saw you wearing it after your bloody murder spree."

Satrams gulped. How could three months have passed, and where had that storming hat come from? More to the point, how in the seven hells could an Inquisitor see a simple hat? Honestly, how could they see anything at all? They had storming spikes for eyes. "I don't know where this stupid thing came from. Hoid must have put it on me to frame me. Yes, that's it. He must have drugged me, and attended the meeting in my place."

The Inquisitor grimaced. "It doesn't matter now. Odium's slaughtered most of the 17th shard. We need all the help we can get, even if it comes from you." He grabbed the mercenary by the collar, and hoisted him in the air. "Once this is over Hoid, I'm going to rip your spine right out of your body. Come on, we don't have much time." He turned and walked away. Satrams reluctantly followed the man. If what he said was true, they were all in serious trouble. He needed someone to protect him in this crazy time. Besides, he had no idea which way civilization was. Honestly, he needed a stiff drink to calm this roaring headache.

I'm not going to vote for anyone, per my usual policy. I just really wanted an excuse to role-play.

Okay so my guy is a Zinc Twinborn Compounder for RP purposes, but can we take a moment to acknowledge how awesome this is? He's a guy that can not only use his compounding Feruchemally, thinking at extreme speeds, but also the ability to Riot to a degree equal to if not greater than a Mistborn burning Duralumin. Cranking that power up a notch, and a powerful compounder may be able to Riot one single emotion or drive so that the target can think of nothing other than that one single cognitive byte.

@Winter: I don't think inactivity is really that good of a strategy. While the shards could hide this way, the eliminators could as well. The only difference is that if only these two groups stayed inactive then the eliminators would know exactly who to target to remove investitures. I think a general rule of thumb is don't be inactive.

As for the Ruin kill, last game inactives didn't contribute much to the game at all, so killing them then or now probably wouldn't accomplish much. That being said, last game did have several people assuming that at least one inactive was a spiked, so using the Ruin kill could avoid having to worry in a similar situation.

Well my character is a Forger/Hemalurgist. We should take a moment to acknowledge how awesome that is.
