Peng the Just he/him Posted December 20, 2014 Author Posted December 20, 2014 In answer to your question, multiple mutts can be killed in the same round. 2
twelfthrootoftwo Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Tessa spared the cornucopia a brief glance, before turning to regard her fellow tributes. Some were staring at the pile of resources; others surveyed the arena, choosing their terrain. A quick count told her it wasn't worth joining the fray over the cornucopia. She saw Al, the other District 4 tribute, shoot a glance at the river. It was a good idea - a familiar environment, alien to those from the other districts. But...she'd just got away from fish! Did she really want to throw away the one good thing about her situation, hoping the others couldn't swim? Well, maybe she could forage along the banks. But it was the principle that offended her. Some of the other tributes had been singing to calm themselves. She had a song too. As the countdown began, her decision made, she whistled its tune.Always look on the bright side of life! The muttations are worded as 'attacks' in the rules. Do they count as an extra attack point (so can be stopped by defence), or do they act like the knives? 2
Peng the Just he/him Posted December 20, 2014 Author Posted December 20, 2014 The muttations count as an extra attack point and CAN be defended against
Gamma Fiend he/him Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 But since we can't make any attacks on Cycle 1, nobody can attack any of the Mutts tonight, right? And with 10 Mutts, we're guaranteed a 100% of them making an attack this Cycle, unless their attacks count as other attacks in that regard as well? Or is Cycle 1 just going to cornucopia or not, and the only chances of death being a bloodbath?
Peng the Just he/him Posted December 20, 2014 Author Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) The mutts won't attack you guys this cycle. Edit: day one is over! All actions are finalized as of this edit. Write up is coming soon Edited December 20, 2014 by jasonpenguin 1
Peng the Just he/him Posted December 20, 2014 Author Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) Dale ran. He knew that he didn't have a chance at the cornecopia. He bent over and scooped up a large rock as he ran. After he got a couple hundred yards away, he ducked down, hiding in the tall grass. From there he crawled on his stomach until he couldn't go on any longer. The sun was setting. Dale popped his head up an looked around. No tributes in sight, but nearby a few cows grazed lazily. since any meal could be my lasthe thought, hefting his rock, might as well have steak ------------- Dale sat , enjoying his meal around his small fire. So many faces had appeared in the sky tonight. So many gone. Another cow approached, and dale looked up at it. He did a double take. This was no ordinary cow. It had the sharp teeth and keen eyes of a predator. Almost like it was part wolf. The animal leaped. A cannon fired. ----- The following tributes are now dead: Ashette Amet Mil Ceni Ingis Mato ------ The hunger games begin in earnest now! May the odds be ever in your favor! Edit: listed the wrong tribute as dead. Whoops Edit2: for those of you who are dead, I have provided a link to the spectator doc. This is a place where you can talk to other dead people or people who just wanted to observe the game. Edit3: there are 10 currently living wolf cows (I need a better name for them...) Metacognition he/him Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I'll come up with RP later, but we know that at least 16 people must have gone after the Cornucopia (since six players died and Peng told us that the Muttations couldn't kill us the first day), so at least all the items are evenly distributed and no one has multiple. That also means that there were quite a few people who weren't being honest or were wishy-washy about whether they would go for it. So the main plan seems to be to kill the cows... err the muttations, right? If we can get enough of a consensus that 10 people (or even 7 and assurances from the people with the attack items that they'll use them on the muttations) then we could end that threat on day one and really let the games begin! I still think that we should consider the need to hit a player, since two people will die if the muttation attack doesn't get through, but that's just me. Personally, I don't like the idea of dying to random chance. If I die, I want it to be because someone wanted me dead, so I'd like to take those factors off the table. 2
Gamma Fiend he/him Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Dam put his back to the inevitable bloodbath at Cornucopia, making his way as fast as he could towards the woods, jumping and wincing with each successive cannon blast to indicate each death. He would close his eyes and pray, dreading the one name to be listed off.Melinda's name never came. He breathed a sigh of relief. He always knew she was smarter than that. Now he just needed to find her and do everything in his power to keep her safe. The sun was setting as he made his way into the forest, the horizon a deep orange bleeding into a dark red, as if the spilled blood had been cast into the sky instead of the ground. The trees of the forests cast a long shadow, trailing behind them and fading into a pure darkness. An unimpenetrable depth, holding dangerous secrets and enemies. He knew he would find Melinda in here. She was always fast and really good at hiding, her petite figure giving her an advantage. He took the small item Kam had slipped into his jumpsuit pocket that he had discovered while in the tube on the way to the arena. A mini-lightbulb, attached to a single small, flat disc shaped battery. It gave off a dim glow, but in the dark woods, that could help make the difference between life and death. It could also be dangerous if seen from a distance, and draw predators -- or other tributes -- towards you.But he would use every advantage he could get to find his way to his sister.... He didn't know if he would ever be able to cope if he failed to protect her. There was no way to break his promise to himself. 2
Seonid he/him Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Niobe crouched in the forest, watching as the wolf-cows spread out, hunting. They had avoided the bloodbath at the cornucopia, probably because there were too many tributes there to effectively attack. But they would be dangerous now. She needed to eliminate them. Sure, any of the other tributes could stab her in the back at any second, but those mutts were far more unpredictable than other tributes. Sitting with her back against a rock ledge, she began to plan a trap for one... I'll be going after the mutts this round. 1
Aonar he/him Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) Aaron moved away from the Cornucopia. He did not run. Running was for putting distance between yourself and something as quickly as possible, and that was not what he needed right now. He needed calm, care. In an ambush, setup was key. It would not do to be rushed. As he walked, the cannons began to sound. First one, then two, then several in quick succession as the bloodbath started. Aaron counted nine. More than usual, but not unprecedented. For some, the cannon fire induced panic; it drove home the reality of their situation, and caused them to flee as far away from the others as possible. Aaron did not flee. Prey fled. And if there was one thing Aaron was certain of, it was that he was no one's prey. Eventually, he found what he was looking for. A steep cliff studded with gnarled trees, it provided a decent view of the main trail along the river, but it would be near impossible to climb once night fell. It was the perfect place from which to stage an ambush. All Aaron needed was one lone tribute from the Cornucopia to walk by, and he would have one of the Cornucopia's treasures. He might not even have to kill for it. *** Night fell, and the faces of the fallen began to flash across the sky. He hadn't been involved in any of the deaths, but he still made a commitment to remember every name. It was all he could do to honour the dead. As the end approached, Aaron's vision began to blur. He'd put on a good show. He'd even convinced himself, for a time. But the horror of the games had not destroyed who he was, not yet. Taking in one long, shuddering breath, he tried and failed to avoid thinking of home, and of family. He shook his head. No time for that now. Breathing slowly, Aaron took hold of what he was feeling; shaped it like a sculptor molding clay. No long vague and formless sadness; it was anger, resolve, hate; cold and sharp edged. He would win this game. He would survive, be as ruthless as he needed to be, just for the chance to spit in President King's face upon his return. For your information, my words and actions are liable to differ greatly. Just because this suggests that I'll be targeting a player doesn't mean that'll actually be what I'm doing. Most likely, I'll be targeting Mutts, for similar reasoning to Meta. I'd much rather be killed by another player who had good reason than be killed at random by a game mechanic. Edited December 20, 2014 by Aonar Faileas 1
dominic1994 he/him Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I will be going after the mutts I think. For this first cycle at least. I think its worth everyone doing it just so people aren't killed randomly. If there's going to be chaos and bloodshed I think its better if it comes from the other tributes rather than the mutts.
IcyNinjaPenguin Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Ice felt her feet guide her away from the cornucopia. She was not shocked at her sudden choice. Many may think it a cowardly desision. She thought it wise. Ice fear was soon began to evolve into determination. This was not a determination to kill people, it was a determination to help everyone live as long as they could. No, surly the capital would kill her somehow when they realized her true intentions. But she would rather go down from a random "fluke" fire caused by the evil creators of the game, than by the hands of another poor child simply trying to survive. It was the last bit of humanity she had left. They couldn't take everything from her. She continued to run, watching the ungulates as she passed. Surely they couldn't be just cows, but perhaps the meat upon them could be useful. No... it would be poisoned wouldnt it? She paused mid run to consider... 1
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Does anyone remember if The Hunger games used Fake swears? And I'll be targeting the Mutts as well.
Alvron Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I will be hunting the Mutant Bovines. I really don't want to be killed by a cow. How would that look in my sig. Al: Deckhand from District 4. Eaten by a Cow. That's almost as bad as being lynched by a horse. Al ran for the river he had seen earlier, fear granting him speed he never knew he had while driving all but the basic of thoughts from his brain. Once he reached the bank, Al dived in and swan to the other side. The cold bite of the icy water shocking Al back to normal. Instincts honed after years of working on and around boats kicking in. Once safely on the other side, Al stripped off his soaked clothes and hung them on branches to dry in the sun. Spotting some flax nearby, Al grinned. He may not have been the best deckhand in his district but he did know his way around ropes and knots.
Newan he/him Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I'm still active, but I just finished a road trip and I'm to tired to RP right now. As I said before, I will be killing mutts.
dominic1994 he/him Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Dom ran. He didn't know how long he had been running, he just moved. He sprinted through the trees, his whole body screamed in pain, his lungs burned. He jumped over a fallen tree but landed awkwardly, stumbled and hit the ground hard. Dom lay still. He'd jarred his shoulder and pain blossomed throughout his arm. He tried to move, to sit up but his body wouldn't let him. He was exhausted. A cannon fired. Dom flinched at the sound. The Games had barely started but so many cannon shots had already echoed throughout the arena. Dom was still alive though. Somehow. He barely remembered the madness that had started it all. From the very beginning Dom had ran. That was all he had done. Just ran. He had seen what had happened at the Cornucopia though glimpsed it as he ran. He had seen the chaos, the bloodshed, the violence that had swept over the Cornucopia. Something moved in the trees. Dom jerked around. There was something out there, just out of sight, but watching him. Dom froze, straining to see, to hear. He had seen one of these creatures before.... he thought. His memory was growing patchy. There were black spots where Dom couldn't remember what had happened. It was the tiredness, that was what was causing it. He was so tired. He needed to stop, to sleep, but he had to keep running. Had to stay alive. That was all that mattered. Another sound. Closer this time. Dom turned slightly and there it was Everything about it was wrong. It was unnatural, it.... it growled. Fear overcame Dom and he ran, forcing himself to his feet and plunging once again into the trees. The creature followed, crashing through the trees. Adrenaline kept Dom moving but it wasn't enough. He was tired, he couldn't go any further. The voice in his head suddenly screamed. It had been quiet since the beginning but now it roared. Dom's body finally gave up and he fell to his knees. The monstrosity was close. He could feel it behind him. The voice screamed again and Dom let go. For the first time he gave up fighting and let the voice in. He gave up control, gave it to the voice. And it accepted gleefully. 1

Metacognition he/him Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 (edited) The sun was just a sliver on the horizon and Melinda still hadn't found Dam. Perhaps she had guessed wrong and he had headed for the river? He had worked in the hydropower plant; maybe he went to the river because it was more familiar to him? Would she ever see her brother again? Her only solace was in the fact that he wasn't dead. As long as he wasn't dead, she wouldn't give up hope. The forest was far larger than the little park back home and she quickly became disoriented. How could anyone tell where they were going in all of this? For all she knew, she had been traveling in circles! She never thought she would miss the blinking lights of District 5, but with night approaching and her still alone in this foreign forest, she longed for something familiar. The growing shadows made walking treacherous. She had already fallen multiple times as her feet kept getting caught on roots or stepping in a depression the darkness hid. When she fell for the what felt like the thousandth time, she twisted her ankle and barely kept from crying out. As she lay there, she found it difficult to summon the will to get up and keep moving. She wanted to just roll over and let the tributes or whatever creatures lived in the forest take her. A single tear rolled down her cheek as she pounded on the ground in frustration. Then she heard the crack of a branch nearby and she froze. It was one thing to wish for death, but entirely another to be confronted with it and she felt fear welling up inside of her. Should she remain where she was or flee? Just before she could make her decision, a tiny, blinking light, so dim that she almost thought she imagined it flickered off to her right. It was like those stories of will-o-wisps she had read as a child. The light flickered again and this time, she realized something. What she had initially taken as random blinking was morse code! Her and Dam had learned it so that they could communicate in secret! And, the most amazing part for her, the code was spelling out her nickname, Ohms, over and over again. Dam. He had found her. She bit back a sob of pure joy and relief and struggled to her feet. Awkwardly, she hobbled towards the blinking beacon and towards the comfort of her brother's arms. ___________________________ Not as much discussion going on today yet. I'll either be attacking the Muttations or likely putting in an attack on Salamander, since he hasn't shown up at all and, like I said, I'm worried about the idea of the Muttation attack getting blocked. We'll see which as the deadline gets closer. I do think that we need to discuss things in thread or else what is the point? Sure, we won't be able to tell if anyone is lying, but we should give people a chance to argue for their lives before we just kill them from the shadows. Just a suggestion for after we get the Muttations down, as I won't be surprised at all if I'm not around by then since I'm the one trying to draw people out of their PMs! Edit: Also, from looking over everything, here is my list of who's left and who likely has an item. A plus next to their name means that they never stated one way or the other that they would or would not go after the Cornucopia. A minus sign shows that they probably didn't since they either explicitly stated they wouldn't or are likely no longer playing, as they haven't shown up. If their name is bolded, then they almost definitely have an item! If we assume that the pluses have items, then that leave 3 items not accounted for amongst the rest. 2 male The only Joe/Joe + 3 male Aonar Faileas/aaron + 4 male Alvron /al 4 female thwelthrootoftwo/ tessa - 5 male Gamma Fiend /dam - 5 female Metacognition /melinda + 6 female Icy Ninja penguin/ ice + 7 Female Ookla the alko/ Isana - 8 male Salamander/ Salamander 9 male Newan /Newan 9 female Eolhondras/ Eolloe - 10 male Tusoud16 /Tekon 10 female a smart guy/ Marge 11 male dominic1994/ Dom 11 female Seonid /Niobe Edited December 21, 2014 by Metacognition 3
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I'm not really talking much in my PM's anyway. (Since they all died at the Cornucopia). Yes, I did succeed in getting an Item, I will be killing Mutts today and tomorrow.
Mailliw73 he/him Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I just want to say, Mill was totally right about those cows.
Peng the Just he/him Posted December 21, 2014 Author Posted December 21, 2014 Hey guys! Just letting you know there's about an hour left in the cycle! If you haven't sent your order in yet, please do so quickly
Araris Valerian he/him Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 The milk is pretty tasty, if you ignore the fangs. 1
twelfthrootoftwo Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Tessa eyed the cattle from her hiding spot across the river. Beautiful specimens of Bos taurus canis, probably. She doubted there was anything moving in the arena that wasn't designed to kill. They would make life difficult later on; probably easier to get rid of them now. With so many of them, surely they would attack one of the tributes. She could follow, see which bits were dangerous so she could safely - But by then the tributes would be too spread out. She wouldn't be seen. And that was half the point! Let them know she was community-minded, targeting a threat to them all. They didn't need to know the real reason was that it was meat, not fish. Tessa will be killing (and eating) a mutt this cycle.
Peng the Just he/him Posted December 21, 2014 Author Posted December 21, 2014 (edited) The tributes all scattered, going their various ways. That night there was a massacre. Not of tributes, but of devil cows. The cannon fired several times anyway throughout the night. I decided to give you guys info on how they died. This isn't meant to convey who killed them at all, just the method of their death. Marge stumbled through the Forrest, fleeing. It had probably been a poor decision to light a fire. Someone had seen the flames and come looking, but she'd heard them approach and managed to get out of there, but now she was being pursued. She tripped over something, and looked back to see newan's body with a knife sticking out of it. why is his body still here she wondered I thought they removed bodies from the arena. There must be another tribute near. an arrow shot out of the trees and marge went down. Isana crawled through the brush, wary. She was fairly certain she was alone. Time to sleep...... She awoke to a grunt and looked up just in time to see another tribute leap on her. She tried to fight back, but the other tribute had gotten the jump on her and had a rock. She barely lasted thirty seconds. Niobe lay nestled high in the treetops. Certainly no one would find her here. She tied herself in, closed her eyes and feel asleep. She didn't hear the fellow tribute climb the tree or untie the rope around her. She did awaken to the sudden sensation of falling just in time to see the ground rush up. ------------ The following tributes names and faces appear in the sky at night: Isana Newan Marge Niobe There are 6 surviving muttations. dominic1994 he/him Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 (edited) There was blood on his hands. There was blood on his shirt, on his face. It was from that wolf-cow-monstrosity that had attacked him. Dom had killed it. He couldn't quite remember how. He was struggling to remember much at all. The night had been a blur, Dom couldn't focus on any of it. It was morning now and somehow Dom was still alive. More Tributes had died overnight and now over half had already been killed. Dom felt the tiniest glimmer of hope. Maybe. Just maybe he could survive. He didn't know why, or how, he was still breathing but he would do his best to keep it that way. He was still terrified but no longer thought of giving up. He had come too far for that. Maybe. Just maybe, there was hope. It was quiet. The trees, the air were both still. It had been a while since Dom has seen any other Tributes. He would try to leave them alone and let them kill each other. Those monsters were still out there but for now it was quiet. It was quiet inside Dom's head as well. The voice hadn't gone away, he knew, it was just silent, sleeping perhaps. Dom was beginning to fear the voice as much as the other dangers of the Arena. He had given into it during the night and his fear was that he would have give in to it again. He would fight but he didn't think he was strong enough. The voice terrified him, for Dom could not remember what had happened when it had taken control. He didn't know what he had done. Dom was tired. His body and his mind. He needed to stop, at least for a short while. He found a secluded spot; where several trees had grown close to each other and sat down. He tried to get some sleep but he couldn't. He jumped at every noise, every movement of the trees. He was tired and hungry and cold but he couldn't sleep. Fear kept him awake and wouldn't let him rest. Fear, and the fact that there was blood on his hands. Edited December 21, 2014 by dominic1994 3
