dstokes7 Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Does anyone else feel like any individual who becomes the Nightwatcher's Bondsmith would have to be creepy beyond all measure? The Nightwatcher is a pretty messed up and creepy spren. What kind of person would love just chilling in the Valley with the Ghost of Christmases Future all the time? They'd have to be someone like Wednesday from the Addams Family or Yzma from Emperor's New Groove! I probably would NOT like to meet that person. Haha! 1

Yeah, I also wonder what special abilities the Nightwatcher Bondsmith gives. From the SR series, who do you think would be most likely to become the Nightwatcher Bondsmith?
Ninth of the Night Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Just took a glance at Nightwatcher's Coppermind wiki and the single piece of trivia provided me with some amusement: Quote Brandon Sanderson would probably bond the Nightwatcher instead of the Stormfather, if he was a Bondsmith.[44] Also I doubt she's confined to the Valley. Much like the Stormfather she can probably travel if she wishes to. Someone can correct me if there's information to the contrary, but I don't believe her essence is what maintains the Valley where she resides. The Sibling is Urithuru, which is why their Bondsmith has to stay within range to access their powers. The Tower is the physical manifestation of said spren, I don't think the same applies to the Nightwatcher. 1
Elite01 Posted May 17 Posted May 17 It’s an interesting question I could see the nightwatcher staying in the valley and the Bondsmith moving, there is a tower in urithiru with plants “just in case the nightwatcher visits” we see it in book 5 where Dalinar has meetings. So the nightwatcher definitely can move, but the question on would they is a different one.
JustQuestin2004 he/him Posted May 18 Posted May 18 (edited) I think that the main reason she hasn't moved from the Valley is likely due to Cultivation. The Nightwatcher's whole schtick is probably due to Cultivation to act as a smokescreen for when she herself acts. Many people have gone to the Nightwatcher for the Old Magic, this is what led certain important individuals like Dalinar, Taravangian and Lift to visit and instead gain a Boon from Cultivation instead of the Nightwatcher to further her own plans. And since Cultivation has just left the planet, chances are that the Nightwatcher is no longer bound to that schtick anymore. So, I think in the backhalf we'll be seeing a more independent Nightwatcher doing her own thing, travelling around and giving Boons and Curses to all kinds of people. Heck, that could be a main plotline, tracking her down since she might not be in the Valley anymore and is the only source of Light that Retribution can't take away, thus her bonding with a Radiant would be an absolute necessity for the Radiants, and the Fused trying to hunt her down and capture her. Jult Posted May 18 Posted May 18 I've got a bit of a suspicion that the Nightwatcher's Bondsmith will be a Horneater. Mainly because Cultivation's perpendicularity is in the Horneater Peaks. And I think Cultivation would find the Horneaters fascinating because they're a hybrid race of humans and singers - which sounds like the kind of thing that would appeal to her Intent. Perhaps the Nightwatcher will appear in the upcoming Horneater novella that takes place after Oathbringer? I think it'd be interesting if she chose a Bondsmith before Cultivation left Roshar. Although, if you're looking for creepy characters to bond her, a Sleepless would probably be high on my list. 1

I think this would be a really cool idea. And maybe if she were bonded to a strong-willed Horneater like I imagine them to be, it would be a similar situation to Dalinar and the Stormfather, a relationship that both learned and grew from. The Nightwatcher seemed almost child like when around Cultivation, so maybe she just needs more experience in the world of men. 1

Bondsmithing is older than the Oaths. He wouldn't be a Herald or Radiant, necessarily. I mean, Bondsmiths are all about Connection, and so is Adolin. That said, I still want him to take up the dishard of Retribution and become Justice, the positive spin on those same Shards combined. I can't see how it will happen because SPOILERS FOR ISLES OF THE EMBERDARK Spoiler In Emberdark, the Skybreakers at least are still opposing the Scadrians. I suppose that the Scadrians could be led by Discord at that time, though.

No, but the person I was quoting specified the Nightwatcher Bondsmith, who is a Radiant and Bonds the Nightwatcher by swearing Radiant Ideals.

He's also called the "Bridger of minds" by Tumi in RoW, which sounds a lot like what a bondsmith does. Rlain was also a candidate to bond the Sibling before Navani did.
