Another new Mistborn RPG clip just dropped. With peeks at the skill trees for Mistings, Ferrings, Allomancers, Feruchemists, and Twinborns. Also new Scadrial-flavored branches for the Envoy and Agent trees. And (if you blink you miss it) just a little slip of a Hemalurgy page:

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.cc7270788643e10043384d0b96ac6034.png

They didn't blur nearly as much as they did with all the Stormlight teasers. And she flips past several pages like

  • A-Steel
  • A-Bendalloy
  • F-Chromium
  • F-Copper
  • F-Electrum
  • F-Iron

And some general notes on training Metallic Arts and how Atium works.

Anyone catch anything else cool?

Tempting clip, but I can't read most of the fine text because it's just far enough away from the camera to be blurry.

Still took about thirty screenshots. I'll have to try it on my laptop, see if that helps the resolution.

It's pretty legible on my PC. If there's any bits you're really curious about and can't see, just give me a timestamp and I'm happy to check what it says.

WUT.

Okay, I'm definitely checking it on my laptop then. Thank you for that info and the offer, I appreciate it.

Okay, gonna be real, my computer must just be total garbage, because I literally cannot make out any of the small text in any way.

I'd be most interested int 1:51, 1:53, 1:56, 2:00, 2:02, 2:04, 2:05, 2:07, 2:10, 2:12, 2:14, if that is okay with you.

I'm just going to grab all of the trees because that's probably the most interesting to most people. You may need to squint a bit to see the pre-requisites, but it's all pretty readable to me.

You're welcome.

Some things that caught my eye in no particular order:

  • No Fullborns allowed. I'd guess that is more of a game mechanic than a lore implication. But it's still interesting since the Stormlight rules don't do something similar by preventing you from bonding 9 Spren.
  •  Both Metallic Arts use Cognitive skills. Allomancy uses Willpower and Feruchemy uses Intelligence.
  • Savantism will be a thing.
  • Hemalurgical Spikes will be items in the game instead of Hemalurgy having its own Path; which makes sense to me. I do wonder if the spikes will come with certain limitations. According to the ToC, they dedicated as many pages to spikes as they did to the Misting Path - so it sounds like they won't be too simplified.
  • Atium Allomancy and Feruchemy are in the Table of Contents. Not sure why this surprised me given its significance in Era 1, but I did need to do a double-take when I counted 17 metals.
  • GMs are encouraged not to get too picky about the availability of metals except for the very rare ones (Temporal and God Metals)
  • There are apparently rules around crafting Metal Minds.

Thank you @Jult you're a legend!

-I wonder about the Embedded Metalmind Talent, because does that mean you can't have smaller embedded Metalminds like an earring?  Or would those be restricted like they can only contain 1 Charge total?

-Anyone catch that the Misting/Mistborn Key Talents are called 'Snapping' while Ferring/Feruchemist are called 'Heritage'? Does this confirm that Feruchemists don't need to Snap to gain their powers?

-Also, finding it pretty interesting and balanced that there's some key differences between Misting/Ferring and Twinborn, as some very interesting Talents aren't shared between them. Like Powerhouse for Mistings, which is crazy good since it reduces Investiture Maintenence Cost by 1, and the only Allomantic Skill we know of right now is the Ghostblood Enforcers 'Burn Pewter', which requires 1 Investiture per round to maintain. Assuming it works like that with the PC Pewterarms, then with Poewrhouse they'd be able to maintain 'Burn Pewter' indefinitly, and with the 'Instinctual Burn' Talent would let you already be burning pewter before each Scene, meaning it woul cost you 1 Investiture total to indefinitely use 'Burn Pewter'. Crazy.

-Looking at the Prerequisites between Metalborn and Radiant Paths, and while the 'First Ideal' Talent requires you to be at Level 2, so you can't start the game as a Radiant, there is no such restriction to the Metalborn Paths. So this probably means that you could start the game as a Metalborn, which is great!

Now, to be fair, you cannot gain a Bondsmith bond as a PC. I would consider that as filling a similar niche that the Fullborn fills on Scadrial.

Resonances too. Though, it looks like they've gone the cheap route and made it a generic "use one power and the other gets advantage" than coming up with a more canon and unique concept. Still interesting, but narratively feels less like a Resonance and more using your powers together synergistically.

Didn't they do a similar thing with the Skybreaker "Resonance"?

Honestly glad they're not going with a path route, though I'm not entirely sure why. I just like the idea of it being more of something anyone could do with the right knowledge, perhaps.

Probably for similar reasons GMs aren't supposed to take Sphere management too seriously, except when narratively applicable.

I like the way Radiants cannot be made at level 1, as if forces them to have structure separate from the Surges.

Allomancy and Feruchemy really feel like they could pull it off though, since it's something you're born with.

Basically, I like both directions for different reasons.

Yeah, it feels a little weird.

It seems to me like it should be more of a material process like Hemalurgy in that it's a reward- you could get Metalmind implants by getting in good with a well-connected nobleman, for example, who is buddies with a surgeon who does that sort of thing.

It's probably there for the same reason Metalminds are supposed to be a process to get though. Feruchemy is kinda busted for gameplay, since a PC's only limiting factor to sitting around hoarding attributes is the limited number of Metalminds.

Or at least that's my take.

Does there happen to be anymore higher quality pictures from the Sneak Peek? I would love to see more. Literally anything.

I grabbed a few more yeah. I was nervous I about breaking some forum rule I don't know about. So, I didn't want to upload too much.. But I guess Brotherwise posted it publicly, so I doubt it could get me in much trouble. Here's a few more!

The Agent and Envoy trees (new branches tailored to Scadrial):

Spoiler

F-Iron and F-Copper (or at least the right half of each tree):

F-Chromium was also quickly flipped by, but I couldn't get a shot that was clear enough to bother posting. I did some squinting and there are 3 near-legible skills:

Whispers of Destiny - After a test, spend 1 charge to feel how impactful the upcoming scene will be and become Focused when an important person, place, or moment arrives.

Right Time - While tapping Fortune, use the Ready Action as a Free Action.

Right Place - When a scene begins, spend charges to Move once for each charge spent.

I really like the Grifter Talent Tree from Envoy, making an enemy Determined just to turn it against them sounds hilarious. The Insult To Injury just to rub salt in the wound makes it even better.

F-Copper has an interesting Talent, Keeper of Knowledge, that gives your Coppermind 5 additional Charges and literally increases your Intellect by two. That sounds really good for Intellect builds, just gain two more stat points for it by Tier 2! You could probably reach 6-7 Intellect by Level 6 as an Archivist. Not too shabby.

I feel a little inspired to make a Koloss-Blooded Archivist just to make a 'Brawny Nerd' kind of character.

F-Iron has some interesting stuff too. Letting you lower certain kinds of damage and move further. Pretty basic but useful.

Ooo, Fortune stuff. I like it. All about gut feelings and being sort of ready for whatever happens next. Nice.

Ah, so you need to complete a Goal to get the full Talent Tree, similar to the First Ideal Goals, except you can pick a specific Starting Kit, which it seems to say will let you skip that part and get the Talent Tree immediately. Neat.

Thanks so much @Jult I really appreciate this.

Happy to do it! I really enjoy this game, so I'd love to inspire some more activity on this forum.

Also, I noticed that I mentioned A-Steel and F-Electrum in my initial post, but didn't have screenshots of them so I went back to check where I saw them. Similar to F-Chromium, they're barely there as she flips through the pages, but I can barely make out:

F-Electrum:

Go With the Flow - While storing determination, resisting influence costs 1 focus more, but you gain an advantage on Insight and Persuasion.

Endless Agreeability - While storing determination, when you choose not to resist influence, recover 2 focus and learn key information.

Adamant Resolve - Tap Determination and spend additional charges to shorten but amplify its effects, and to ignore your injuries.

A-Steel is so fast that I can only kind of make out the talent names: Coin Sharpshooter, Steelpush Adept, Bubble Shield, and something that looks like "Leveraging Brace" - very unconfident in that one.

Given that Hemalurgy isn’t a separate path, I could see it being possible with lerasium (if that’s accessible to players).

The power house trait unfortunately reduces the cost to burn metals "to a minimum of 1 Investiture" sadly. Would've been super helpful for maintaining savantism though

Really? "Rereads the Talent in question", it doesn't say that on the tree, but I suppose it might say that on the full description somewhere below. What a shame. Still, could be useful for lowering the cost of Speedbubbles, since those cost quite a bit.

True. Plus being able to flare metals means the talent will still get used a ton

They actually gave us a sneak peek at the very rough rules for A-Steel during the initial kickstarter (if I remember right). This information could easily be outdated, but judging by the similar names, I imagine the talents still work similarly.

Neat! Thanks for this. Seems I should have been more confident about "Leveraging Brace".
