Just a theory, during this chapter 10 Kaladin is given a copy of way of kings by syl for him to learn to read.During the prologue Galivar is trying to speak the words that would turn him into a herald.Would it be a stretch for Kaladin to be learning to read, and accidentally say the words out loud and become a herald? This topic,(Kaladin becoming a herald) has been discussed for years, and while I dought  what I wrote would happen,I do wonder if there may be some connection.

Well, it wasn't directly said it's for him to read. It's entirely possible that Syl will read the book for him, as his scribe. Kaladin is still very uncomfortable with the idea of a man reading books.

Correction, Gavilar believed he would become a Herald, the Stormfather out right denied this and claimed he was searching for a champion.

And no, it's not possible to "accidentally" say the Words. Intent is as important as with Radiant Words. Kaladin needs to be ready, he needs to understand them, know their meaning and consequences of saying those Words. You can't just say them by accident. Even the Stormfather said to Gavilar in the prologue that guessing wouldn't work.

But once he reads/hears the book, it's possible that when the time of need comes, he will remember and recognize the right Words thanks to this.

Kaladin travelling with a copy of 'The Way of Kings' MUST be significant somehow! A very good catch! And yet I doubt this is exactly what will happen, because the words have to be spoken with the right intent. Doing that accidentally? One could imagine someone not knowing anything about becoming a herald yet being in the right mindset ('I want to protect the world'), and then saying those words. Yet, lacking any knowledge that this will result in becoming a herald, that's just not 'intent enough' for my taste. Especially since it includes a huge sacrifice. Also, in my opinion, Kaladin is absolutely destined for the 5th ideal.

Anyway I hope that 'the heralds are gone' from KoWaT means there really are no more heralds, rather than meaning they are all on Braize for a new oathpact. The lattter is just so horrible.

But supposing there is a new oathpact with new heralds: Kaladin and Szeth are together on this journey. Szeth might hear whatever Syl reads to Kaladin. And I just realized while thinking about this that if anyone could be considered to be 'herald material', it would be Szeth.

Used to a lot of suffering, even preferring it very much to non-existence, haunted by his past deeds - if anyone would welcome physical suffering as a means to atone for his sins and become an agent for good, it would be him. That physical suffering might actually be easier for him to bear than the voices. And the shin know a lot about the heralds (Szeth to Ishar in RoW: 'We have kept your secrets'), Szeth (or both of them) might learn more about the oathpact in Shinovar.

Again: Kaladin travelling with a copy of 'The Way of Kings' MUST be significant somehow. And this is my best guess right now.

what if that The Way of Kings, is part of the death rattle. So Kaladin drops the way of kings. Picks it up. There is the fallen title. There is more to say on that, but likely the wrong thread for it.

Him getting put in the succession line also could be him picking up the crown. Now that he's "retired" he could return to battle and pick up the spear. That still leaves the tower, but who knows?

Dalinar's glyphpair is the tower and the crown.

Also I realized Kaladin is the perfect herald, an indomitable spirit. Odium would struggle to break him

It's also the epitome of being a Windrunner, isn't it?

I will protect those who cannot protect themselves.

All of them. Forever. Until my soul wears thin and I go mad. :(
