Of course he would rather be sitting in a tree then potentially dying. Though the fight, the conquest... it called to him. Eventually he jumped down to the ground, grabbed his stick, and wandered back towards the casino. He tried to sneak as stealthily as he could, using pine trees to block the view of potential watching tributes. @Edema Rue

He sees a whole bunch of tributes outside the casino.
