Never read those. I don't consider them to be true Sanderson content.

They're… not. Not in any sense. Sanderson didn't have any direct involvement with the series until RJ died. Even then, he wasn't the first person considered to finish the series. GRRM was.

All Sando did was fill in the prose. He didn't plot much of the last three books at all. He expanded upon Jordan's notes and made a fantastic ending to an incredible series. Granted, it's not for everyone, but that doesn't at all detract from the greatness of it.

GRRM said that his success with GoT was due to WoT, and RJ was hugely influential to Sando. So without The Wheel of Time, so much fantasy would either not exist or would be drastically different.

You should try the books, at least, they are good books. The first one kinda sucks at this point because of its tropiness, but the rest of the books are phenomenal, if you like the style of prose. If you really hate it though, then I would recommend running as fast as possible from it and the fans with their weaves at the ready.

WoT is what introduced me to Sanderson and I started following my dad and uncle as they began the audiobooks for SA. I’m pretty sure I surpassed them by Oathbringer and they never caught up. I enjoyed TLM as it introduced us to a wider cosmere aware setting and got me excited for the future. I agree that it really is just a tack on to Wax and Wayne and that they mostly had finished their story arcs. I enjoyed it nonetheless. My favorite books by far though (sorry SA you were up there for a while) is Elantris and the secret novels. They honestly brought in something the cosmere had kinda lost for me. I began seeing everything interconnected too much. As much as I love it, it began to be a little stale for me. The (mostly) unconnected stories were wonderful and gave some “breathing space” for what’s up next. I don’t think I would be as excited for where Sanderson would be going next if I didn’t have some plain good stories before.

Also, if you do choose to read WoT then you better be ready for a long stinkin story, loved it, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully reread it again

Despite not having the biggest highs of the series other than the "honor is dead" moment for me, this is my personal favorite and being the smoothest read of the series so far.

I wanna come in here and throw a good word in for TLM, which maybe people didn't like, but i enjoyed. It's far from my favorite cosmere book, but it wasn't a bad book in any way in my opinion.

But Stormlight is just the best series. I used to think that OB and RoW were weak books but the more i have reread things the more i enjoy the entire series.

Me Personally, Oathbringer is the best one. not only are the fight scenes flawless but I was captivated the whole way through as opposed to Rhythm of War which was far more tedious to get through.

Bummer that The Emperor's Soul is not among the options as a separate entry (especially since Secret History and Edgedancer are there). While I love most of the Cosmere works The Stormlight Archive is my favourite series, but TES is a perfect story to me.

Emperor's Soul is underrated. I think there should probably be a separate poll for short stories as they don't have enough material to compete with main series book but a very enjoyable in their own right. I might consider making a poll like that at some point.

I think Pug's point was that your current poll already has Novellas (Edgedancer, Dawnshard, M:SH) and the Short fiction Anthology (AU - which is merely a duplicate of other stuff listed, plus some extras) - but is missing TES, which falls in the same category as already represented (Novella).

Granted, the question at the top was "Favorite novel" so it would be more accurate to remove the non-Novel entries, than to add more non-Novel entries.

How is no one talking about Tress?? By far my favorite stand alone book he has done (that I have read) though Words of Radiance is my favorite book in a series of his that I have read.

Just stumbled upon this thread, and I would like to pitch in what I think will be an unpopular opinion. My favorite SA book is undeniably Oathbringer, and it has (in my opinion) the best character growth I have ever read in a book. That said, the Cosmere book that holds up the best for me (that I've read) is the Well of Ascension. I found it consistently enjoyable and there where no parts that I felt dragged the story down. It also had the best twist at the end.
