Perhaps instead of being exempt, it could twist the shadow into something else, or perhaps produce a false-shadow. I shall wait until i received an answer for my current questions

EDIT: I found this WoB on TL

In The Way of Kings, we see a lot of worldhoppers on Roshar. Have you already seeded worldhoppers FROM Roshar in your other works?
Brandon Sanderson
Yes. You've met several.

does anyone know who these worldhoppers FROM Roshar are? emphasis mine

Apologies for the double post. It is only Allomancy that can be applied mechanically, or has it been asked if Feruchemy can as well?

I apologize in advance if this list has been done, and I'm just blind and can't find it. If it has, then please point me in its direction.

I was wondering what is the best order of reading Sanderson's books when it comes to the Cosmere? I've been searching through various forums, but there's a lot to sift through, and I'd rather just ask the question - even if it's a repeat - to preserve my sanity.

Thanks!

Order doesn't matter much. Brandon himself says as much, though he does recommend reading them in publication order if you're already committed to reading everything.

You can get a list of books in order here.

If you're interested in exploring the easter eggs sprinkled throughout on your own (which is not necessary at all, but a lot of fans enjoy doing it), a kind fellow on r/stormlight_archive put together this spoiler-free guide. (The comments are not guaranteed to be spoiler-free.)

Cosmere wise is publication/release order, which nearly syncs with the timeline (i'll list them by timeline: Elantris (earliest in timeline to date) > The Emperor's Soul (alos set on Sel, approx. 30 years or so after Elantris > Mistborn trilogy > Warbreaker > Stormlight Archive > Mistborn:Wax & Wayne series (Alloy of Law is a standalone/introductory book, the others are a trilogy) then you have the short stories Shadows for Silence in the Forest of Hell (not quite sure when this takes place) and Sixth of the Dusk is the farthest along (most future-y) in the timeline

Thank you so much! I'm currently reading HoA and 'Firefight' at the moment. I was planning on reading 'Elantris' followed by 'Warbreaker' next so that will work out well! I'm trying to wait on WoK due to wanting to start it closer to when the third book is coming out so that it lessens the length of waiting. My husband absolutely loves that series, and I'm not the most patient person when it comes to waiting. :-)

Do we know anything about Revocation, the Epic? Aside from the mention that he lives (and probably rules in) Great Falls.

Do we know if Heralds came from Roshar or Tranquil Halls? I think I read somewhere that they may be from somewhere else, like other planet.

The Heralds' origins have been consistently RAFO'd. We don't know for sure.

Has it been confirmed what the spren that surround skyeels and chasmfiends are? (my headcanon is they're gravitation/gravityspren)

As far as I know, we have no WoB on this. Shallan theorizes that they help the skyeel fly, so it seems that the spren is in some sort of symbiotic relationship with the skyeel. Because of this, I would be somewhat surprised if they were regular spren like gravityspren. Chasmfiends have their own spren, why not skyeels?

...Are they not the exact same spren? They both dart around their host like arrows, and they both have the affect of making their host weigh far, far less than they should. Since their description is almost identical, I had just assumed they were the same thing.

I never actually considered this. It's a very convincing theory.

I think my point stands, though: the wildlife of Roshar seem to be in symbiotic relationships with spren specifically "evolved"(?) to work with them. I wouldn't expect the spren around a chasmfiend or skyeel to be something generic like a windspren or something.

Is there any other example of a spren specifically evolved to work with the fauna of Roshar, except for this one type of spren with skyeels/greatshells?

Posted (edited)

The reason why I ask was someone had brought up the passage about Shallan commenting on chasmfiend spren, (where she issaying that they are/look exactly the same as the spren around skyeels) so it got me thinking

aren't there some around the giant sea creature she studies in WoR?

Have chromium and nicrosil been discovered by the Alloy of Law era?

The assumption is that if they're in the Ars Arcanum, they're known in-world.

Kind of a silly question:

While rereading WoK when I reached chapter "Errorgance". In this single chapter the sentence "Jasnah sniffed." is present 3 times in a fairly short chapter. Was she cold? Or is there some hidden meaning to this sniffing? :P

*Brain short circuits*

Whaaa......

In all seriousness, I never noticed that.

I've noticed people are constantly sniffing, snorting, frowning, and raising an eyebrow in both Mistborn and Stormlight Archive. Might make a good drinking game, at least for as long as you can focus enough to read.......

So, now a question with much more sense.

We can see that humans in cosmere are pretty much similar to us. That includes their pursuit of technology, at least on Scadrial, where, after TLR was gone, we have a technology boom.

My question is: Why on Roshar, after Aharietiam, when they had 4500 year of rest from desolations, they didn't do much progress with technology? And I'm not just talking about the bronze-iron-steel-steam-electricity progress we know from our (and Scadrial) history. I mean progress like in fabrial creation and soulcasting. In WoK and WoR we see that Navani herself was involved in creation of a couple of new types of fabrials. It seems like if almost no progress has been done for thousands of years, until several decades ago when Navani went into fabrial-making business. Does Roshar lack coal to start an industrial revolution? Is fabrial-making that hard and Navani is a Tesla-level genius?

I don't know if they are that different than us, because it took about 5000 years to go from cultivating plants like cereals in the Fertile Crescent to great civilizations like the Baylonians, Egyptians and Greeks, and then another 1500 years until the modern technological advances in Europe, Don't forget all these civilizations had advanced sciences and mathematics, but due to religious/philosophical ideas the technology did not advance.

So if anything they are advancing as fast if not faster than we were, since we see them fighting with leathers and skins at Aharietam. We also don't know what type of wars there have been. Have they had continent wide plagues? Any large wars that delay/destroy progress?

Too many unknowns to guess at why they haven't advanced. I would guess it would be due to religious reasons and maybe scarcity of raw materials.

Yeah, I'd say they've advanced enough. "Taln"'s repeated lines seem to imply the Heralds generally return from Braize expecting stone age farmers or something.

And recall, literally everything about fabrials is apparently new technology. People assume that things like Soulcasters, Shardplate, and Shardblades are an ancient, highly advanced form of Fabrial, but we know they really aren't. Dalinar, in the past, doesn't see any fabrials being used; in fact, he doesn't even see any spren, which are needed to make the modern version of fabrials. So things like a simple heating fabrial... that's relatively new. That didn't exist at Ahrietam, or possibly even the Recreance. That's where their technology is. Spanreeds. Fabrial clocks. Navani, and by extension artefabrians, seem to believe the Ancients had wondrous fabrials that work basically like the fabrials they have now, just better, but from what we've actually seen this doesn't seem to be the case.

The "ancient fabrials" all seem to do with the Knights Radiant; either Plate and Blade, which is a Radiant thing, or a very small number of Fabrials that all seem to be based on the Surges; Soulcasters, Oathgates, and the elevators at Urithiru (which have been speculated to operate on Gravitation).
