After re-reading the GM intro, I noticed some parallels. 
Vistari is Dr. Gaul

Forrest is Mr. Plinth

Fifteen is Coriolanus (kind of)

Pelle is Clemensia’s daughter or something.

Mine didn’t make it up, but here it is:

Third started as a researcher in a remote facility, testing and attempting to modify the powers of aviar. When the research vessel was sunk by a deepwalker, only he and a few other researchers escaped. After the original candidate for the GM wildlife coordinator was eaten by a nightmaw, a fellow researcher from that department, named Second, was promoted. After Second also fell to the dangers of the islands, both the position and Second’s aviar, Magic, was passed to Third.
The authority has caused a complete change in Third’s personality. Although relatively lazy as an employee, as an employer he is efficient, stern, and values competence, initiative, and obedience. Using a reorganized wildlife team and the powers of his aviar, he’s managed to pack even more dangerous beasts on the island, yet reducing the rate at which they consume each other and low level employees. He’s assured the other GMs that despite the docility they display around him, the fauna will have no qualms about consuming tributes. Or GMs trying to take his job, for that matter.

Murr is not going to try. Berin has a machete, is strong, and has clear bloodlust. Murr is small, weak, and his only potential weapon is an unwieldy stick.
