Delightful Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 If the Lord Ruler was Johnny Depp, I don't think I'd be able to take him seriously. I'd just keep picturing Jack Sparrow, which would be hilarious. I don't think I've ever seen him in a serious role though. 1

He is serious in From Hell, Donnie Brasco and Public Enemies (all great movies) but it is him as Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, that I had in mind. * Ironpulls onto Kredik Shaw * "Rebels! Fatebreaker he/him Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 I think Jeremy Irons(ba-dum-tish) should play Clubs
BreathTaker he/him Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 (edited) Haha because Iron... Hugh Laurie would be an excellent Clubs because he older, and plays a grump with a wicked limp so well that he now actually has a limp. Edited July 15, 2014 by BreathTaker 1
Newan he/him Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I present to you: The Worst Case Scenario for the Mistborn Movie Nicolas Cage as Kelsier Megan Fox as Vin That kid from the Star Wars prequels as Spook Mr. T as Sazed Shia LaBeouf as Elend Jonah Hill as Breeze Arnold Schwarzenegger as Ham Taylor Swift as Allraine Cett That guy from Twilight as Zane And finally... John Travolta as the Lord Ruler! 2
David Coppercloud Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 No the worst cast would be if Steven Seagal played everyone, and the only mark to distinguish one character from the next would that for each of them he would try to do a different accent. 1
theravenchilde she/her Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I see your bad fancasts and raise you Benedict Cumberbatch as all the characters. Yes even Kliss. Actually having Ben at all in Mistborn would be bad casting. #keepcumberbatchout2K14 As a more serious warning, however, I'm about halfway done with my own fancasting for the whole series. I'm doing a little under 60 characters, so this is taking a lot longer than my Warbreaker casting. I've also been rereading the series and highlighting EVERY SINGLE PIECE of physical character description, with plans to add it all to the Coppermind when I've finished. If anyone else is working on their own casting, I have references for almost every single character if you need them. And, if you've seen my Warbreaker cast, so y'all know what's coming to this thread when I'm done. I'm also going to get to work on a graphic series for Alloy of Law, since I've finished that book's cast.
Pewterdragger Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Kelsier Breeze Sazed Clubs Spook TLR Demoux Done 1
Curiosity he/him Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I do like Liam Hemsworth for Demoux. First good casting of him that I've heard of.
David Coppercloud Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) Following the silly answers. This is who I think should be the cast if anime characters were actually actors, who had real lives off screen, and had to do auditions: Kelsier: Kamina, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagonn Vin: Re-l, Ergo Proxy Elend: Ashitaka, Princess Moninoko Shan Elariel: Android 18, Dragon Ball Z Sazed: Angemon, Digimon Ham: Armstrong, Full Metal Alchemist Breeze: Lelouch, Code Geass Clubs: Jet Black, Cowboy BeBop Spook: Shinji Ikari, Neo Genesis Marsh: Nicholas D. Wolfwood, Trigun Dockson: Maiza Avario, Baccano! Lord Renoux: The Count of Monte Cristo, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo Lord Venture: Kaiba, Yu Gi Oh! Lord Ruler: Light, Death Note Edited July 22, 2014 by David Coppercloud
Jaxx_The_Edgedancer Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 I have thought about the idea of Mistborn being made into a movie before, and when it came to the actors to play the characters, I have felt that Broadway actors who accurately fit the physical description of the characters from the book would be the best way to go. If this was done, it would set up the notion right from the beginning that this movie is a portrayal of the book, not a story similar to the book and happens to be called Mistborn.
The Shadow he/him Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Before anyone gets very confused as to how I remember that, I have just been rereading the well of ascension having recently relocated my copy. Early in the book Vin and Elend have a discussion about how many people would rather that Kelsier was there and king than Elend and Vin states very clearly to Elend that she prefers him You stored it in copper. Got it. Well, I see the internet hasn't gotten passed Firefly yet. Not that I can talk, because I'm about to list my favorite actors for petty reasons. I just don't see anyone from Firefly as being a good fit for the main trilogy. Besides, Summer Glau can't be Vin, she'll be too busy play Shai. A few I disagree with, respectfully. Benedict Cumberbatch- I'm still sulking over Sherlock Series 3 and the travesty that was Into Darkness, so he's out for me. Once I get over it, he'd probably be fine for a roll, though he's not on any shortlist for me. Joss Whedon- I mostly hate everthing he's written (Firefly and Avengers, being expections, Buffy being the crowning example). He can direct, so long as the hire someone to keep him away from the script. I. First Trilogy Vin- Jenna Malone (Catching Fire) She's a little old, but she looks young enough, I think. And she can play the role, based on her performance as Johanna. Kelsier- Daniel Craig. He's got the rough look of someone who's been in a labor camp and he can definitely bring out the intense side. I'm not sure as much about the humor, but I think he'll pull it off. Failing that, David Tenant isn't a bad choice. Straff- DAVID MOTHER****ING BOWIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...I like David Bowie. II. Alloy of Law Era Wax- I wouldn't mind seeing Nathan Fillion here, although I'm not sure he's deadpan enough. Chris Hunham would be my next choice Wayne- Mark Shepard. Marasi- Emma Stone. Ranette- Jennifer Connelly I'll have to think more on the rest.
BreathTaker he/him Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 As much as I love Emma Stone, she couldn't be Marasai. Only because Wayne says something about her having Fluffly Clouds or some such... Emma (the beautiful) Stone does not. 1
The Shadow he/him Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 As much as I love Emma Stone, she couldn't be Marasai. Only because Wayne says something about her having Fluffly Clouds or some such... Emma (the beautiful) Stone does not. Oh, I don't think there's anything wrong with the bounce her cloud region. Besides, I think the ability to act innocent and naive if more important. Though now you've got me wondering how well Kat Dennings pulls of naive and innocent. I should note that, for apparently no textual reason, I picture Marasai as a redhead. 1
BreathTaker he/him Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 She is. I don't have the book in front of me but I know she is.
The Shadow he/him Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Oh, were but it so. Sadly, the book says she's got dark brown hair.
theravenchilde she/her Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) Again, Brandon's major failing. Hair is a ludicrously easy thing to change--most actors even wear wigs, rather than their natural hair. You can't pick an actor on the basis of similar hair color. The only other descriptions Brandon ever writes are height and weight, both of which can also be changed via prosthetics and camera trickery. It is freaking impossible to fancast based purely off canon book descriptions. It makes me wanna stab something just a little. Anyways, I've finished my Alloy of Law cast, and the graphic series is up on my tumblr here. Wax- Richard Armitage Wayne- Josh Hartnett Steris- Natalie Dormer Marasi- Tatiana Maslany Lord Harms- Ben Miller Ranette- Stephanie Beatriz Miles- Colin Farell Tillaume- Peter Cullen Lessie- Ming-Na Wen Tarson- Byung-hun Lee Bloody Tan- Clifton Collins JrEdwarn Ladrian- Jason Isaacs Telsin Ladrian- Emmy Rossum Constable Brettin- Gbenga Akinnagbe Obviously, my picks are subject to change. There's several characters I think I can pick better people for (Colin Farrell being one of them. After seeing Total Recall I'm much less warm on him as Miles). My favorite cast from here is for Ranette. Rosa is basically already her, so the character is not that much of a change. Edited July 25, 2014 by theravenchilde
Turanga Leela she/her Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Sooo... Four years after this topic was started, what's actually happening with the movie? Any steps forward? I can't find anything on IMDB, unless it's under another title...
The Shadow he/him Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 As many of you know, a Mistborn film has been in the development stages for several years now. The producers, Paloppa Pictures, were wonderful to partner with and worked very hard to bring a Mistborn vision to the big screen. However, their rights have just lapsed. They’re still interested in the project, but we’re in this strange place where the Mistborn rights after five or six years are finally available again. So, this is a word of announcement to those out there who may have been watching out for this. The Mistborn rights are available to option. Any offer would need to be very serious in order for us to consider it, but if you are in the film industry and you have an interest in the Mistborn film rights, be aware that you should contact the office of Joel Gotler at Intellectual Property Group. http://brandonsanderson.com/mistborn-film-rights/
edgedancing Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Well, I'm going to add my own two cents even though this thread's been inactive awhile I personally really love the idea of casting Zoey Deutch as Vin - her action sequences in Vampire Academy were realllly good AND she's the right age. And I also support Robert Downey Junior as Kelsier and Hugh Laurie as Clubs! As to the others, I have absolutely no clue. I just really really want Lana Parilla to play Tindwyl in Well of Ascension though ))
Curiosity he/him Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 As to the others, I have absolutely no clue. I just really really want Lana Parilla to play Tindwyl in Well of Ascension though )) I don't know if I could see her there. First, I don't think she matches the middle eastern/Eurasian look that I imagined for the Terris people. Second, I can't get the image of her as the Evil Queen out of my head.
HobbitGuy1420 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 For Alloy of Law, can anyone else see Hugh Jackman as Wax? Mid-40s, but very fit. 2
