The army continued marching. Archers loaded explosive bolts, then fired them. The clinic shook violently, but the metal walls held.

Veer had been in his room, packing to leave. He’d no longer had any need for the Clinic. But now the Clinic had need for him, as metal sheets slammed down everywhere. He storms out into the hallway, ready for battle. Of course, the hallway near him is empty.

Very was running past and almost crashed into her. "Woah! Sorry." He skidded to a stop. "Come on, it's dangerous to stay here. Stea and I have a hideout where we can wait." 

Oh, right. He had a lil nightingale flying in front of him, but she paused and came back to land on his shoulder.
