What, the Deadpool trailer? :P

Hello, new Google account....:P

Note that this will not be well received by many of you.

So I nearly became a murderer today.

Context. My nephew's dad doesn't want anything to do with him, we'll call the father Todd, but Todd's family have threatened to take him away.

So I was at home making dinner for me and my nephew when someone came to the door to take him to where my sister was. I gave him to her because I live in New Zealand, one of the safest nations in the world. I text Leticia after the woman left and said what happened, In response she said "I never told anyone to grab him". So I was at the door with a knife in my hand and about to walk to where Todd's family lived where I would have taken my nephew and killed anyone who tried to stop me, when she rings me and says " lol just joking he is here with me."

I would have killed them with no regret or guilt. She should definitely not joke about that. I thought my nephew was in danger and I will end anyone who threatens a baby.

Have you called child services? The police? I would seriously hesitate to take justice into your own hands like that, unless it's self defence and lives are seriously and immediately at stake. If you get locked up for life for murder, that's certainly not going to help your nephew.

I....hope everything goes well. Please don't do anything rash or stupid.

I think if there's anything to kill for, it's defending children. However. Have you called child services? The police? Do I continue to hide it? Imma just hide it.

He's fine. He is with his mother getting food or something. I would call them but going and getting him would be quicker. Also I live in New Zealand so at most I would get 5 years in prison. The only bad thing about it would be that I couldn't get into many countries.

Well... I am an engineer and truth is most engineers do not wear men's dress clothes... They wear: jeans and t-shirt or pants and shirt... One of my colleague recently advocated men should be allowed to wear shorts during the summer as women do wear skirts, capris and dresses.

So I cannot blame it on my colleague tendency to overdress... they don't. I recall one meeting where I had to excuse myself, walk back to my office, grab my winter coat before coming back because it was so damnation freezing in the conference room

Well, then I guess I'm lucky. I work in a place where I'm allowed to wear short, t-shirt and sandals to work :) (I'm a programmer)

I left my PC out in the open for one day when I was out of town, instead of taking reasonable precautions in the presence of my eleven year old brother such as locking it safely away in a vault on the moon. Long story sort,I came back to find a notification telling me I've received a permanent ban from Smite - the game I've been addicted to for the last few years, which I've been playing since its early alpha days, and which I've invested sixty dollars pounds towards buying characters, skins and so on - for deliberately feeding the opposing team, harassment, impersonating a HiRez employee and excessive vulgarity.

Apparently, while I was gone, my little brother dropped in at my house (without me knowing he was there until I interrogated him about it when I got back), then played a few rounds of Smite on my PC, with my account, where he was so agonizingly bad that it looked like he was deliberately trying to sabotage his own team. He swore at them and threatened to, and I quote, (CENSORED), (CENSORED), (CENSORED), (CENSORED) (CENSORED) (CENSORED) (CENSORED) (CENSORED).

Then, he started swearing and screaming at my Clan, getting me kicked out of there, too. Next, he sent friend requests to the entire enemy team, then told them they were being banned from the game for cheating, because, and I quote, "I am the CEO of the company known as HiRez and I am here to inform you that your accounts will be permanently destroyed because you cheated and killed me in that last match." Apparently, impersonating a HiRez employee is enough to get you permanently banned without any of the earlier infractions.

Bear in mind that this is an eleven year old brain which could not hold its anger together long enough to think through a decent imitation - actually, I just insulted the intelligence of that entire demographic. He has the overall intelligence of a nine year old child when it comes to logic and anger management.

I know there's supposed to be unconditional love when it comes to siblings, but... it can get very, very hard sometimes. I still think my brother needs therapy, but both of my parents kept saying things along the lines of "He doesn't have anger issues, he's just unique," and I quote, "an indigo child." That was more than a full year's effort to reach Rank 30, find a high level clan, get Legendary skins for every Hunter and Assassin, and reach Mastery Level 10 for three characters. Gone. Its just... gone.

That really sucks. Now I'm really glad that I just gave my other account on LoL to my brother when he said he wanted to play.

How did he get your passwords?

Like a complete idiot, I clicked 'Remember this account', by the logic that no one else would be using that PC who also happened to play Smite. Also by the logic that people who would be using my PC would be in the same room as me, I didn't put a password on the computer.

There is no way to get the account back?

I've sent in a letter of complaint stating it wasn't me on the account at the time - alongside a video recording of my brother confessing while I held his wallet over a stove to motivate him (hint hint, there is no greater way to stir up an enthusiastic confession than holding a hundred dollar bill from their savings over a fire*). Now, I will wait for a response.

A couple of years ago, I don't remember exactly when but it happened more than once, there was a period of time where I felt a constant or near constant pressure on the left side of my throat, especially when I yawned or turned my neck at any speed. It was a little scary, and quite annoying but not too big a deal by itself. But sometimes when I yawned or turned too fast something in my neck would pop out of place. I could still breathe with it out of place but there was a LOT more pressure on my throat. Generally swallowing was enough to cause it to pop back into place (fortunately) but doing so was very painful. It's the most terrifying medical condition I have ever had. The thought that it might not go back into place right, or that it might damage something on the way was so frightening that it was very difficult to convince myself to put it back in place and I'd often have difficulty convincing myself to swallow at times when it hadn't happened, but I worried it might have.

From what I've been able to gather it is most likely an issue with one of the tendons attached to the hyoid bone which allows it to move to the sides when it shouldn't. There's very little information on it online, mostly reports from frustrated people who have the same issue and have had little to no luck in getting help with it. Most spoke of the doctors and specialists they went to having no idea what it was and telling them not to worry about it. A lot of people also said they had it much worse, with it popping out far more frequently, hurting more and having to physically push it to get it back in. So I guess I got lucky. It faded after a while each time.

Anyway, I haven't had the issue for quite some time but a couple of days ago the pressure came back. It hasn't popped out of place so far but I'm scared it will start happening again.

Yikes. That sounds terrifying.:unsure: Is there any chance of a chiropractor or a similar expert being able to get rid of whatever weird tension keeps causing the problem?

Sister: I need to write a one-page essay about Kepler 425B. How should I open it?

Brother: That story makes me so mad. They found a planet that reflects light the same way Earth does, and all of a sudden the planet is just like Earth in every way!

Mom: They're just trying to disprove God exists by proving life evolved somewhere else.

Maybe....or maybe they're just excited by the prospect of aliens? I mean, the existence of aliens doesn't necessarily disprove the existence of God. Maybe those scientists are just so excited by the childlike wonder of life on other planets that they got a bit ahead of themselves.

Twi, that's one of my biggest pet peeves. When people misunderstand or don't even attempt to understand another person's worldview and/or motivations, but instead just ascribes evil motives to them, I can't stand it. A lot of my arguments with my parents are about this sort of thing; especially about politics.

My parents are hard-core conservatives, and they always say the typical stuff about how the liberals are trying to destroy America and how they hate America. Then I pipe up and say something like, "uh, maybe the entire liberal side isn't wanting to destroy America? Maybe they care about the country, but they just want to go about fixing things a different way? And we really shouldn't ascribe evil motives to people just because they disagree with us. That does not make for a healthy debate about anything."

Then my parents: "But don't you see how they're so wrong?

Me: "That's not what I care about. The rightness or wrongness of an issue is what I want to debate. I'm saying we shouldn't imply that an entire half of the political spectrum is evil. Why are we assuming that other people can't be as rational and thinking as us?"

My parents: "Dirty liberal sympathizer."

Maybe I am. Who knows. All I know is that I never get around to actually discussing an issue with my parents, which I would dearly love to do.

SCIENCE AND RELIGION ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE WHY CAN NOBODY UNDERSTAND THAT

Both of those opinions bother me, Twi and Kipper. Not yours, but those of your families. I personally believe that God did create other planets with life on them. If He's omnipotent, I don't see why He couldn't or wouldn't create another planet for more of His children.

And intolerant people bother me sooo much. I see the same opinions of that in so many people around me and it bothers me intensely. So many people in my community are so close-minded towards other viewpoints, especially concerning things regarding sexuality.

Bizarre.  I recall the Catholics dealt with the issue of potential life on other planets quickly and simply by saying, "Well, God rules them too."

My parents don't discuss things. They invite people to agree with them, and if that person disagrees, they do everything they can to prove them wrong. I began to diverge from their thinking a few years ago, and the more I do, the more I wish they'd open their minds a bit more. Because the way I see it, there are good people and bad people from every point on the ideological spectrum, but for the most part, every single person has one thing in common: They want to make the world a better place. Like you said, liberals and conservatives just disagree on what it would take to improve society. If everyone could just sit down and talk things through without fighting, I think we could actually get something done.

And, more than that, being prejudiced against someone else's ideology just means you'll never be their friend. Think of all the fun things you could be missing out on by not befriending that hilarious, intelligent, fun-loving person who just happens to be a liberal. And what's more, if you spoke to them calmly without trying to prove them wrong, you might learn something new.

Yep, that's how my parents are. They're not very tolerant, but the way they see it, they're the tolerant ones and everyone else just needs to quit being wrong.

That's how I see it. And what's weird about it is that they let us watch Star Trek growing up, so it's not like they purposely indoctrinated us against the very idea of aliens. She's just automatically assuming that the only reason scientists are so excited about Kepler 425B is because they think the idea of aliens can disprove the existence of God.

They do that with everyone, though. She and my dad always ascribe the worst possible motives to everyone, so I'm not surprised she's doing this with the team of scientists who discovered this planet. Still, it definitely saddens me. Maybe these scientists just like the idea of an inhabited planet with aliens we can contact one day. No matter what your origin story for Planet Earth happens to be, the thought of saying hi to an entirely new race of beings is really freaking cool.

I wholeheartedly agree.  ^_^ Except me and my church's idea of aliens is likely a bit different from most of yours... I don't know.  :P

Well... I don't believe in God, but if I did, I would see no issues into believing he created life elsewhere as well. Indeed, I was raised a Catholic, so it may be it  :P though I had no issues Catholic simply called the issue out by stating God rules every other planets. I must admit, it was a neat one if they did.

Do you mean Kepler 452b? If so, tell your brother:

  • It has a high chance of being a terrestrial planet of near-Earth size;
  • It lies right smack in the middle of the habitable zone, right where liquid water could exist;
  • It orbits a G2V star very similar to our sun.

It could be another Earth, and it could be an utterly lifeless ball of rock. We don't know, but so far it's the best lead we have in the search for life off our planet. There's nothing to be mad about here; scientists didn't just make up a bunch of numbers and calculate that Klingons were living there. All that's being said is that there's a world that could be like Earth, and maybe we should try taking a closer look at it.

If he argues, give him my email and tell him I'm ready to hash this out like men. :P

Oh, and your mom is one of those Christians who should realize that our God is way bigger than the solar system, and it's hardly our place to define where He could or couldn't have made life. Space belongs to Him, and if He chose to give part of it away to His lifeforms once He could most certainly do it again. Personally, I'd love to meet some fellow Children of God somewhere out in the universe--it'd be like meeting a long-lost sibling.

Isn't this the brother that thinks guns are the manliest option?   :P
