Raijai Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 At the end of Era One, Harmony made Spook a mistborn. I know that he was new to the job at the time, so it must have been fairly easy for him to accomplish.. Now, in Era 2, Wax is having a lot of trouble with just about everything, and I feel like being a Mistborn would make things significantly easier for him (I know they wouldn't fix his problems). Why hasn't Sazed helped him out? I would love to see Wax get mistborn powers for real this time. (and I want to see what happens when the new god metals are burned, and only a mistborn -or really rare misting- would be able to burn them) For that matter, if Sazed/Harmony can hand out mistborn powers, why is he letting Allomancy go extinct?

WoB: Spoiler Quote Xais56 Brandon has said that everyone ought to be able to burn Atium, like they can all burn Lerasium, and the fact that they can't was an oversight on his part that he would've done different in hindsight. Maybe now he's had an in-universe reason to re-write the laws of allomancy it's back to his intended concept; Mistborn burn all 16 base metals, mistings burn one base metal, non-allomancers can only burn godmetal. Peter Ahlstrom My explanation for this is that Preservation somehow caused all naturally occurring atium to form as an alloy of atium and electrum. The atium Mistings were actually electrum Mistings. Quote Kingsdaughter613 Primary question: Peter recently said something about atium in Era 1 actually being an atium-electrum alloy. Is this accurate? Brandon Sanderson This is accurate, yes. You could, by the way, just continue to call it atium. That's what they think atium is in-world. It's very slightly tainted.
Raijai Posted February 3, 2023 Author Posted February 3, 2023 So what has happened when the god metals have been burned? And what's the deal with Harmony and Allomancy gifts? Or the lack thereof.
Frustration Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 You have it backwards. It becomes more difficult for Shards to do things as time goes on, not easier. This is even more true for Harmony. 1

This is even more true for Harmony. Exactly. It's the difference between actually taking up a Shard (and initiating the infinite wrestling match with the Shard's Intent) vs just flushing out the Well. The Former gets harder as you fight the Infinite Intent and get changed by it, while the latter is a finite mass of wish magic that gets used up with each application.
cometaryorbit Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 Also, Allomancy isn't going extinct. The Basin population has reached an equilibrium as of Era 2, it's not getting weaker currently. 1
alder24 Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 (edited) Harmony has to take more of a no direct intervention policy, because of his two opposing Intent fighting in every action he wants to take. When he spoke to Wax for the first time, he told him that he's restricted in actions because of these Shardic Intents and limits he imposed on himself. He draw those lines to satisfy both Intents - which was discussed in his conversation with Wax in BoM. Making somebody a Mistborn just like that right now would bring imbalance to his Intents and he would cross the line he draw himself. He need to remain Harmony, if he infuses somebody with the power of Preservation, then who would have to be Ruined (killed) in the name of Harmony? Is that a price worth to pay? Does Wax want to be a Mistborn in the first place? He didn't want to be the Sword of Harmony in the first place. Edited February 3, 2023 by alder24 1
