because a lot A LOT of the characters that appear in other books and works where they are fully fleshed out.

Turin has his own book, Beren and luthien have their own book, Numenor and it's characters has it's own book, Gondolin and it's characters has it's own book, etc.

So yes, some of the characters in the Silmarillion end up being more like historical figures then characters but a good deal of the important people have their own story because Tolkien wrote more stuff about them. 

And I would argue that even the small characters in the Silmarillion that don't do much and don't appear anywhere else are still really good on most occasions.

My favorite Tolkien character is Maglor, and he really only appears in the Silmarillion, and has a small role there too. But Tolkien is still able to make him interesting and engaging, giving hints to his personality and ideologies without actually sitting down and telling his story.

Or Nerdanel, who is another very interesting character who plays a very small role.

okay, to spare you the search of looking it up, Morgoth comes back and is defeated by Tulkas, Earendil, and Turin, who avenges his family

the more important part is that Yavanna remakes the trees and Feanor surrenders the Silmarils willingly to do so

so yeah, he does get a positive ending to his arc

Edit: Looked it up and I guess he just does anyway? That's kind of weird, but I don't believe that that part of the story is very solid or hammered out by Tolkien, just an outline.

hear me out, it looks better IRL . . . when we were looking at the photographs of it to chose the best photo I didn't pick the best one and that's on me.

It is pretty desaturated on purpose though, all of my other pieces have been super over-saturated, so I was trying to take it in the exact opposite direction with this one.

This is a really old sketch/ fanart that I did YEARS ago in my math notebook . . . so it's not very technically good but

The idea was to do the pose from the framed picture in Botw (back when botw felt relevant)

This one:

But with some of the main Stormlight Archive characters because Sophmore me thought it'd be cute, (and I still think it's cute, even if it's very nerdy)

There they are:

Notice my notes on the side because I was planning on re-doing it as a colored illustration and I wanted to fix some things, but never got to it 

So we have:

Dalinor in the place of Daruk (Top right)

Jasnah in the place of Urbosa (Top left)

Kaladin in the place of Revali (Far left)

Shallan in the place of Zelda (Bottom middle)

Adolin in the place of Link (Middle right)

Renarin in the place of Mipha (Bottom right corner)

Maybe it's a little cringy, but I was so happy to find it again recently because it's so silly!

It's not fungus, unfortunately, though that would be really cool.

It's a tattoo that uses the rune-based magic system in my world that gives him powers (I'm currently rehauling the magic system, so I have to keep it vague). The powers are mostly anit-gravity to on a very small scale (He makes himself lighter to run faster and jump higher, etc). He can't change directions with it like Surges, though.

The elves are such goobers - my Mom and I are the only members of my family that have read it lol. I just love the idea of the world starting with a song, and the whole thing with Morgoth causing dissonance, it just sang to me! Definitely need to read it again

Honestly, I don't blame them, it's a lot to remember but it's still kinda funny.
