  1. A sweating Olivarino fell to his knees. It had been long since he'd had to produce this much mycelium at once. I should have trained more instead of spending all my day at the microscope, he scolded himself. But the result was worth it. The giant snake - probably Tyranoserpens, although it could also be a Brobdingnag Python from what he could see - was completely stuck. It hissed, and wrestled against its prison, but it couldn't get out. Good, since Olivarino wouldn't be able to replicate this feat for at least a few hours. He turned towards the girl, while still looking around for his case. "Listen, kid. This is a dangerous place. I can help you back to civilization, I've got a boat somewhere around here. But first, I need to get my case. It contains what I've come here for." If he couldn't find it, then all those days on this island would have been for naught.
  2. Granted, it ends. And then it restarts. I wish for the weather to get less tremendously hot.
  3. Olivarino decided that asking more questions would only confuse him more. He turned back towards the snake, extending his hand towards it. Extremely thin, white tendrils started sprouting from the ground around the snake, and climbed on his body, as if trying to restrain it.
  4. I had a dream recently, in which I was in a high school class, and then some students turn out to be half-human half-animal chimeras? and then a teacher shows up, except he's actually Brandon Sanderson and the Doctor. He tries to help the chimeras, but then it turns out that I had been dead the whole time. ...I think, my memories of that dream are kinda fuzzy. Anyway, 16th Doctor = Brandon Sanderson. Also, does it show that I've been rereading FMA lately?
  5. Olivarino realized what was coming at him, threw himself on the little girl, and they rolled on the ground, ending a few meters away. "You forgot to mention that thing" he grumbled at the girl. "Wait, what do you mean by shimmer-induced?"
  6. I wish to be able to remember to put wishes.
  7. "Uhm, maybe? What do you need help with?" answered Olivarino, while looking in every direction. "And by the way, have you seen a wide brown case, full of glass bocals? I've lost it..." He briefly covered his ear, trying to get rid of that annoying buzzing, to no avail.
  8. Granted. You lose any ability to explain anything to anyone.
  9. "War! What is it good for? Absolutely everything!" @Just A Silvereye
  10. ...okay. *deep breath* So it begins. A noise of broken branches came from behind the Tyrannoserpens. Then, a small, slightly round figure emerged. It was a man, wearing beige outfits and sporting an astonishing mustache. "I'm sorry to interrupt, but do you happen to have seen my mushroom samples?" asked Professor Olivarino to the silhouette he could see in front of him.
  11. Well, I have been using pi forever, and I don't like changing stuff. It logically follows that tau is heresy and all of you should be burned at the stake, for I shall not admit that one prefers doing things differently of me.
  12. Wait, how long has it been? A week or two? *checks* oh...

Anyway, I'm back! Sorta. I won't try to make too many promises, but I'll try to be a bit more here now 😆

    Life update for me:

Some of you might know already, but the beginning of the year was extremely rough. There was a school project that dominated everything at that point, that was one of the last things I needed to graduate, and it was a mess from start to finish, so I... kinda collapsed

In the end, it did end up validated, mostly on a sentiment of "you couldn't have done well anyway with that subject tbf"

    For the good though

With all that was happening in January, I ended up being pushed to start an antidepressant treatment

and as far as I can tell, it's helping a lot

also, after a few months of very annoying searching, I managed to get an internship!

It's so late I gotta enroll in the school for next year administratively, because else it wouldn't count

    but I HAVE AN INTERNSHIP

    I START NEXT SEPTEMBER

and once I'm done with that, I'm out of that freaking school and won't ever have to deal with them again

    Wheeeeeee

In other stuff, I started trying to translate a big EU4 mod into French, with only the little issue of it being 8M words 😅 about 16 times WaT

I am starting to study for my driver's license, finally

Been reading a bit (Murderbot is awesome btw; and so is Dandelion Dynasty, in a whole other register)

And you, how about you? How has it been these past few months?

ive been playing destiny 2 cuz all the expansions had like a ridiculous sale and went from hundreds of dollars to 25.

  13. Basically, you try (often unconsciously) to suppress your ND-looking traits so that others don't feel weirded out by those traits Only issues are that it's absolutely freaking draining to do this all the time, that feeling like you have to hide yourself from others for acceptance feels awful, and that after a while you can start feeling like you don't know what's the mask and what's the "real you" anymore All in all, a perfectly functional habit to have
  14. Does it help if I try to re-explain the thing to you here? So you'll be able to go through it at your own pace? (Note: it will probably be slightly different from what your teacher said at some points. That's because I was taught this class with slightly different methods, drawn up by different people. Also, this was 8 years ago and I have forgotten most of the actual class, but I have played around with those elements for years since - but more so in physics and chemistry than math. I apologize in advance for any inconsistency.) The really key thing is that x and y are numbers. Normal numbers, like 4 or -9 or 129.4823 or 10000. You don't know them, but know some things about them. And the equation expresses what you know about them. So you want to rewrite the information in the equation in a way that lets you find the unknowns if possible, and get more information otherwise. (The unknowns are the numbers you don't know, like x and y. Maths has some jargon at times, but don't let that scare you.) If you only have one unknown, it's easy, because you can always rearrange in a way that tells you the unknown outright. You probably already learned how to do that: add, substract, multiply and divide until you get to something like x=some number. But if you have two unknowns, one single equation is not enough to tell you both unknowns. There are an infinity of possible solutions. For instance, if you know that y=3x+1, then it is true for x=0 and y=1. But it is also true for x=1 and y=4, or for x=74 and y=223, or for x=-5 and y=-14, or for an infinity of other solutions. But if we take all the possible solutions of the equation, and put them on a graph, look at what we've got: A straight line. We have all possible solutions of the equation y=3x+1 right under our eyes. Cool, isn't it? This is what we call: the line of the equation y=3x+1. It turns out, any linear equation (that is, an equation of the form y=mx+b, where m and b are any two numbers) has such a line. Hence their name You will notice something on that graph: this line goes up pretty sharply. In fact, every time we progress by 1 unit horizontally, the line goes up by 3 units. Wait a minute... 3... like in y=3x+1? Yeah, that's right: the line of the equation y=mx+b always goes up by m units for every horizontal unit. (And so if m is negative, the line goes down instead.) m determines entirely how fast the line goes. So for that reason, m is called sometimes called the slope. But now, we want to do it the other way around: we have some points that are on the line, and we want to find the equation that corresponds to that line. (This is a situation you often end up in physics and beyond, because quite a few situations can be modeled with a linear relation between two variables.) Well, we know that there is only a single line going through two given points. (Geometry theorem you saw a couple years ago, and might even remember.) But how to find it? Let's properly write everything we have first: we have two points A and B. Their coordinates are (xA,yA) and (xB,yB). They define a line of equation y=mx+b. Well, we have a formula that can give us m straight up. It is the one you were applying in your sheet: m= (yB-yA)/(xB-xA). If you're curious and want to see where that formula's coming from, look inside the spoiler tag, but it's not critical. Just understand that this formula gives us the slope, and be able to use it as you are. Then, we still need to find b. But, our two buddies the points A and B are on the line. So their coords are both valid solutions for the equation, meaning that, for instance, yA=mxA +b. Replace , m, and by their number values, and you now have an equation with one unknown. Taking the first point from your first exercise, it would be like 7 = -2*-3 +b. Would you look at that? There is only one thing we don't know in that equation, and it's b! It's only a matter of moving the numbers around until we arrive at b=some number. Here: 7 = 6 + b 7-6 = b 1 = b b=1 And. Here. We. Are. We got both of the coefficients we wanted, m and b, which means we have our linear equation fully sorted. And all that from two points. Pretty cool, isn't it? If there's anything I said that wasn't clear, please ask. I'll do my best to make it more understandable
  15. ... Dang it now I'm fifth guessing all the options
  16. Sorry for taking so long to answer I was thinking like, how do you prefer the "class" to happen DMs here or on Discord, voice call, idk I'll take that you prefer to do it in this thread then Those results are all correct, you're doing it right. (Idk if your teacher told you, but when you have your equation, you can replace X by the first number of one of the points' coordinates, and if it gives you the second number of the same coordinates, then it's good. Like for the first one, the equation you get is y=-2x+1. One of the points is (1,-1). So we check that -2 * 1 + 1 is equal to -1, which it is. So you did it right) But I feel you're still a bit confused; do you feel you understand what you're doing, what the Xs and Ys are?
  17. Oh. I might be an idiot. I pressed the "see all votes" button (whatever it was called) when doing the first one, so this is what I see now: I'll put my vote below:
  18. Yeah this is right up my alley If a bit far behind Tell me when and how you prefer to do it
  19. If you think enough about it, all nations only exist in our mind
  20. Glad to hear that and for the rest *megahug* yeah i agree that if you think it's a problem, and it negatively affects your life, then it's probably indeed a problem this might sound self-evident, but it's not always easy to see those kinds of things from the inside I'm not a doc, so I can't tell you precisely what's happening but you should try to get a medical opinion I know doctors are scary, but most of them are cool honestly It will work out I promise you *hugs again* *more hugs* *more more hugs*
  21. *hug* I think I could help too if still needed Done my fair share of math in the time
