OH YOURE ACTUALLY PYTHOR

LOL

Quote

Well kinda :P

If Pythor is a possessive spirit that lives forever and goes around possessing reptiles and making them like him by possessing them. And he rapidly morphs their bodies by consuming prey. Yeah, practically the same person :eyes:

"I was just exploring the jungle, and I tripped over a rock," Scales explained, hoping Pythor would believe him. "I had no idea the rock was actually a teleporter. It was just an accident."

"Well then, perhapss you could explain what you are?"

Rayvyn shakes her head. "You people focus on the most bizarre things. Why do you all fear death so much, whether by your own hand or another's? It isn't a good thing, the same way eating old bread or not always winning at cards isn't a good thing. It's just a fact of life." She ponders for a moment, then shakes out of her thoughts. "How do we always end up talking about these things? We have a portal to make and a child to save."

Bookwyrm turned to Rayvyn, thoughtful.

"It's not that I'm scared of death," he said. "Death isn't the end. It's just another step.

"No, I'm not afraid of death. I'm afraid of dying before I've accomplished everything that I want to-everything that I need to. I want to squeeze as much out of life as I can, so that when I do take that next step, I can be satisfied with this part of my journey."

"Interesting," Bookwyrm said, mostly to himself. "It seems the multiversal structure of this one differs from some of the others..."

He turned to Fadran. "I have an ability that lets me sense the surrounding universes. Kind of like a Cytonic's spacial sense, but on a much larger and more complicated scale. I don't know if it would work here...but I think it's worth a shot. And even if it doesn't help right now, it will prove beneficial in future travels."

I'll let you explain the mechanics of the Macrosmos. I'm kind of using terminology and ideas that I've come up with for my own "interconnected multiverse of multiverses", but if those don't apply here, that's fine.

It might be more interesting if Bookwyrm can't see where he's going, but I'll let you make the final call.

“Here, let me show you.”

Pyro raises his left hand and a ball of plasma starts forming inside of it.

“My power is the ability to Channel, manipulate, and Evoke these, called Orbs.  There are four types, but I’m trying to find a way to create more. This type creates energy that you might find useful in speeding up the creation of the portal.”

For anyone who has played Slay the Spire, Pyro’s magic is pretty much the same as the Defect’s, but adjusted for an RP. You’ll see why later.

SNAKE

Scales begins rapping:

"OH YEAH I slither through the grass, a SERPENT on the move

I strike with precision, never MISSIN' my groove

I shed my skin, a new me every time

I'm quick as lightning, and OH SO FINE"

Rayvyn ponders this for a long minute. "I was never given the chance to find this 'middle ground' you speak of, but I would like to believe that it exists," she finally says.

Marilyn smiles slightly. "Took me a while to find it. It helped that I've technically faked death about... oh... six times I think. You see that people eventually heal and the world moves on. But there's still plenty to do before that, plenty of things we need you for."

Rayvyn looked troubled at that. "That is...a disconcerting idea, to say the least. I have never hoped to be satisfied with my life; I seek oblivion. The small joys of this life are not enough to combat the pain that fills the years. I will fulfill my oaths, and when I am through, I will leave this life. That's all there is to it..." She trails off, absently twirling her dagger. "Marilyn, perhaps I don't want healing. We may heal our wounds, but they only cut deeper. It would be better to simply not be wounded."

You don't have to if you don't want to.

I kind just accidentally/purposefully named my character Pythor and the adaptibility of shapeshifting made it easy to make him pythor. For nostalgic reasons for him. Mainly had to do with seeing a young child again. Because why not.

"You remind me of ssomeone. I can't quite put my sscaless on who."

The Macrosmos is something I try to take really carefully, because it isn't just "the multiverse." I'm not taking my own universes and combining them like the MCU; I'm taking everyone's stories and trying to give them a reason to interact. In order to ensure that nobody gets shafted or has their own universe belittled or deligitimized, I've come up with a couple rules:

  • In order to explore another universe, that universe must have a way to let you in. By creating a character in a universe and putting them in the Macrosmos you've effectively "opened" your universe to other people.
  • Ultimately, the creator of a universe gets the final say in what can or can't happen there. Obviously this doesn't matter for the likes of the Cosmere or Harry Potter because we're just messing around with those, but for my own Iconar Collective or Nathrangking's... whatever it is, the last thing we should be doing is making decisions for the creator. If we visit your universe and start making rules up that violate your original idea, then you have a complete right to shoot it down.
  • I've been doing this RP for as long as it's been around that lets various magic systems and worldbuilding systems from seperate universes can meaningfully interact, but in general I encourage you to come up with reasons for why you might be able to use Investiture on Earth 616 or your weird ice teleporation magic in the Wheel of Time series. So far each universe we've played in has been distinct but similar (as in they follow the same laws of physics and such), so having magic from one universe work in another works fine for me (as in you could probably use the metamagic from Iconar Collective as a kind of substitute Investiture in the cosmere). Really this is just nitpicking and I won't stop you from being a wizard in some version of Earth if you really want to be; I just like having a reason for it.
  • As for Bookwyrm's powers, I can definitely see it working in lots of situations. If other universes follow similar rules to the one they're from, then teleporting to them is certainly possible (after all, if people can show up from their own universe into Fadran's Inn, then it stands the reason that vice versa is also possible). Having a sense for it seems a bit strange to me though; I think it'd make more sense (and, in my opinion, be a lot cooler) if you had to study these other universes or something beforehand and have to make a portal based on observation rather than magical senses.

Fair point. "What I mean is that portals are kinda energy-expensive; not to mention complicated."

“These produce a large amount of energy in a short burst every so often. I can fine-tune the amount, to an extent. I can also Evoke them, which will give me an even larger amount of energy, at the cost of the orb itself, but I prefer not to, as it is relatively strenuous to Channel them. I can also have up to two orbs at a time, with any combination of types possible.”
