chongjasmine Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 Do you read non-cosmere works? For me, beside WOT, I tend not to read non-cosmere works by Brandon Sanderson. What about you?
Frustration Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 Nope, I have only read a single non-cosmere work from Brandon.
NameIess Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 Yep. I've read pretty much everything Brandon's put out, besides a few short stories and audiobooks.
Adamkarma he/him Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 Are Cytoverse and the Rithmatist worth it?
Captain Coffee Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 I read the ones that sound interesting. I love the Cytoverse. The Reckoners series was fine on audiobook in the car, but I won't reread it. His WoT books were good. I want read Alcatraz, but haven't got to it yet.
Little_Dagger she/her Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I read everything Brandon writes, but reread only Cosmere 1
StormingTexan he/him Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I really liked the Reckoners books except the 3rd. I tried the first two Cytoverse but I just couldn't get in to it. I may finish this at some point. I liked the Legion books too but they are a lot different than his normal stuff. I read the Alcatraz books with my kids they are fun but for sure geared towards younger readers. I have not read Rithmatist and at this point will probably just wait until when/if the sequel is written. I've pretty much read all the short stories and liked them all especially Perfect State. To me this is where Brandon really shines on his non-Cosmere books the short stories. I would not consider anything I have read that Brandon wrote bad obviously the Cosmere books are just his best work.
Storyspren Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 Rithmatist is one I can't wait to see a book 2 of. Then Alcatraz is freaking amazing fun. I was hesitant because it's a kids series. But totally worth it. It was one of my nephew's bedtime readings for a few years. They did the whole series.
LilyBlossom9876 Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 Yes, definitely! I love the skyward series, the Alcatraz series, and I've read some of his other work... Although I primarily focus on the Cosmere, I do read and like everything
Lego Mistborn he/him Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 I read some of his stuff, but I prioritize Cosmere and only read other stuff if it sounds interesting and not too childish, so no Cytoverse or Alcatraz for me.
S. Stormy she/her Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 (edited) 5 hours ago, Lego Mistborn said: so no Cytoverse or Alcatraz for me. Those aren't childish. Well, Alcatraz might be a little bit? The narration is very similar to Hoid's in TotES. But Cytoverse isn't childish really at all. Edit: Wow, that sounded aggressive and assertive. My, my. Apologies. Edited January 31, 2023 by Shallan Stormblessed 1
Odiumiumium he/him Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Rithmatist is definitely worth it. It's an amazing book and is pretty close to the cosmere style (I think it was originally going to be a cosmere novel), but it does have the "book written with a sequel in mind" feel. Cytoverse is also worth reading. It's not much like a cosmere work, but it is an amazing series. I haven't finished Alcatraz, but it's fun. Reckoners is also good but is more YA feeling than the cosmere. Basically, if it's Sanderson, it won't be bad.
