Tfw your friend is a werewolf and starts attacking you, so you try to get her to 0 hp just to neutralize her, but you score the single best hit in the campaign so far, a double critical doing the equivalent of 5 hits, and kill her. I feel bad.

Why can't I get hits like this against enemies? I've spent the whole campaign missing shots.

I'm guessing it's too late to make the attack non-lethal?

I just joined a new campaign, and I am both excited and terrified. My character is a warlock whose patron is the god of lies. I can't be too specific, because I'm pretty sure that people in my party are on here, and it would kind of be really bad if they knew, but it's gonna be an adventure. We have mostly spellcasters, and very little healing (only a druid, my aasimar race trait "healing hands" and a paladin). It will be an adventure. a friend and I made our character sheets together with the full purpose of just surviving. If we get caught in an ambush, we'll probably just wipe :P

Druids can be pretty good healers, if they stock healing spells. What subclass are you playing?

yeah, but with four spellcasters and two martials (and we didn't originally have the paladin) it was even worse than it is now. Also, there are not many healing spells druids get access to by 5th level (cure wounds (decent), healing spirit (decent), aura of vitality (requires you to be close to who you're healing), goodberry (not great healing and impractical in combat), and revivify (only good if we die)). I play Pact of the Tome with an Archfey Patron. I might end up switching to Pact of the Talisman, but I like all the utility I get from my ton of cantrips. I'm more of a utility build and do my best to not get hit/die rather than deal a ton of damage.

Apparently, revolvers can be pretty lethal even when you don't mean to. Still, considering the setting, she might come back. I've been led to believe that the campaign is purposely difficult so that we die a bunch of times and are brought back a little more messed up. My little accident is not part of the campaign's difficulty but it may still work out.

dont die, no melee, and act like your magic is better than everyone else's (because it is)

No melee but also keep a dagger or 10 on your person at all times just in case.

Edit: Also crossbow. One of the most dangerous things a caster can do is think they don't need weapons. A melee one for those times you're next to the enemy against your will, and a ranged one, because spells don't solve everything. And 200 bolts if you have a bag of holding or handy haversack.

I will keep all of this in mind. Thank you for the advice.

Does anyone know of a cartography software better than Inkarnate? It's alright for my campaign prep but the fremium aspect is not helpful.

Anyone looked through the new PHB yet?

As someone who is currently playing a ranger and despite ... things... love them:

The new PHB needs to have a few wording changes.

Have you seen the things you can do now now with conjure minor elementals? You can get an expected damage of 300.

At level 9.

Because they worded it wrong.

Though, as a dungeon master, I would not allow my players to do this, I just think it's funny.

"WHAT, NO! IMPOSSIBLE!!!"

My players are the kinda people who overthink everything I say and get frequently distracted on tangents. Apparently they must explore every little village they come across.

As a side note, what do you guys think of Eberron as a campaign setting?

Just joined the forums (I'm very active on the Discord) and saw this thread and HAD to post about the D&D session I had yesterday.

I'm playing a Chaotic Evil Loxodon Wizard, which has been TREMENDOUSLY fun because my entire group is full of diagnosed ADHD people (and me) so we're all over the place. We had an in-game two week break and had to choose some activity to occupy ourselves for those two weeks. I have a slapdash custom background that means I know a bunch of runes that, when carved into an object, have minor magical effects (we're going to work the runes into the campaign so that it becomes almost a custom subclass for me as I learn more powerful ones). Being chaotic evil, I decided that for the two weeks I wanted to make some money by scamming people. So I got a bunch of blank medallions and carved runes into them that would make them grow hot or cold at random intervals, everything between thirty minutes to a full day. Then I sold them on the street as evil and good detection talismans. I rolled really high on the Arcana roll to make them, so they looked flawless. I didn't get caught, and I gave sixteen people extreme trust issues for the rest of their lives.

It was a great session.

Charisma is such a weird stat in 5e/5.5e; you could argue that all 4 of the following Eevees have high charisma for different reasons:

EEeEE would be seen as intimidating (in-universe) due to his macabre appearance.

Lonliness [sic] would likely be seen as cute, with decent folk feeling bad for her.

Pokefell!Frisk would be good at holding a conversation, and likely is the most accurate to the 2014 definition of the stat in the PHB.

Spoiler

(This is based on what I could speculate from YT comments on furry meme videos with clickbait thumbnails, Know Your Meme "cropped y!ff" memes in the search results for "Jolteon memes", and an old r/MandJTV post where a troll was showing that they named their eeveelutions after the characters in the comic; I have and shall not read that filth for religious and, technically, legal reasons. (may count as piracy due to Nintendo suing the creator for "copyright infringement". (read: it's a lemonfic.)))

Sam the bard presumably has managed to mate with the physical embodiment of at least one of the 7 deadly sins, or karmatic retribution.

*Heavy metal intensifies*

*the sound of a naughty Glaceon looking down the wrong end of the Big [REDACTED] Gun 9000*

Yay a dnd thread! Updates for me, I’m dungeon master for an epic Wild West style campaign that’s sort of based off Alloy of Law. I’ve gotten really into the world building, I’ve even made two new classes, mercenary and vigilante.

Really!? Cool! I like sci-fi/fantasy westerns, and have been trying to find a group that wants to run a game in such a setting, that I can also go to.

what stat would "trying not to laugh at something comically edgey" be? CON? INT? WIS?

I'm (re)making a statblock for an old creepypasta anti-hero antagonist. For now I'll go with WIS.

The wisdom to know laughing would offend them in this scenario.

OK, D&D character idea:
Doc Mcstuffins.
She is a child prodigy necromancer who learned necromancy after one of her pets died. Stuck by grief, she learned how to resurrect it.
So she asks her mother (Crazy but loving artificer) for a stuffed animal that looks like said pet (lets say it's a cat).
She then taxidermies the stuffed toy, putting the bones of her  cat into it, sewing it up, then resurrecting it as an undead.

Unfortunately, after a tragic accident involving a group of adventurers killing her mother and burning down their castle*, including killing her other animals, she brings them back in a similar way, and sets out for revenge,

*the party was hired to kill the, "Crazy mad scientist with evil plots" for some cash.

Yes, I am an evil person.
