Ciridae Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 I'd say it's very likely we are going to get a look at the Nightwatcher in a flashback in Oathbringer telling us exactly what she looks like pretty soon. But she's been mentioned so many times throughout the books that I'm sure everybody has their own idea of what she looks like. I can't say why, but I've always imagined her as an enormous black and purple, slightly translucent serpent, speaking in a female voice in the heads of folks. Seeing as the Stormfather seems to draw people partially into the CR (think Kaladin in the middle of a highstorm without wind or rain) I could see her doing something similar. So how does everyone else imagine her to look like?
Radiant_Jaeger he/him Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 I think it would be cool if she took on the appearance of a young girl, I imagine Lift and her being BFFs playing tag or something
CalaCrisp88 Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Black and purple for me too. I didn't imagine her as a real creature, more as a cloudy smoky spirit-type thing. She doesn't talk, but she understands your intent. She lives in some forest grotto with small dancing lights around her, like fireflies.
Farnsworth Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 I imagine a black cubic shape with eyes, a large nose, and no mouth. Don't know why.
thegatorgirl00 she/her Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 I imagine her as a giant, sentient, talking spider living in a cave somewhere. Which, now that I think about it, would mean she looks like a type of greatshell. 1

And the symbolism of spiders fits too
gengar Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 I imagine her also in black and purple mourning like dress and she has a constant apathetic expression to her face not caring about the people who come seeking a boon
marsoupial they/them Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 I see her as a young adult woman dressed in black (as if mourning for her lost Tanavast), perhaps just sitting at a table drinking tea. Not necessary incorporeal or like a spirit, but more like Harmony in BoM, if you get what I'm saying. Not sure about the spiders thing, but that's a cool idea. I definitely think her Valley is more in the Cognitive than in the Physical.
+Extesian he/him Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 I imagine her as the Oracle from the Matrix. 1
Jondesu he/him Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 I picture her looking something like the Painted Lady from Avatar. Not entirely sure why. 2
abnegation Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 (edited) I imagine her as a tree with lips of bark and uses branches to make gestures. No other facial features, simply a mouth. She does not use the lips to speak--her voice seems to come like a whisper from the wind, though she opens them when she gives. Fairly easy to miss in a forest, and not easily findable as she occasionally moves to another tree. She only appears at night if you are alone. Pretty specific, I know... Farnsworth Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 I LOVE that image! I really hope that is close to what happens. It also makes sense since she is of Cultivation.
The Technovore he/him Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 I imagine some being made of... liquid shadow, if that makes any sense. Physically kinda looks like a person wearing a hood, maybe skeletal, or skeletal-ish hands and no visible face.
Kered he/him Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 (edited) I've always pictured in my head that when someone goes to see the Nightwatcher they enter a sort of grove. With trees everywhere and it being twilight 24/7. Then the person goes up to a reeeealllyyy old oak tree, and the Nightwatchers voice comes from all around the forrest, as she is the forrest. And the person keeps seeing a dark shadow flint in between the trees as the Nightwatcher speaks. Edited May 2, 2017 by KereDerek 2
Ciridae Posted May 2, 2017 Author Posted May 2, 2017 @KereDerek A la Felurian's clearing and the Cthaeh? 2
Vissy Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 This by @FlatLine is really good depiction of the Nightwatcher, imo. Really thought provoking. 1
Erandeni he/him Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 I have always imagined her like a humanoid wolf with black oily fur, her eyes like green flames.

Julio Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I always imagined her as a kind of black geyser. When someone goes to consult her, she "spouts out" of the ground, and stays there until she's done with them. Obviously, smooth and homogenous, unlike a real geyser. I never really imagined how she'd speak...
mistyknight Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I just always thought of her looking like a giant black floating ball who just hovers around in a cave or something
stonedshaman Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 A black shadowy figure of a lady with red eyes. Haven't really given much thought to the valley
thegatorgirl00 she/her Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I find it interesting that almost all of these images involve darkness, nature, or both. The nature part is probably the Cultivation influence. There doesn't ssem to be any reason for the darkness except for the fact that she is currently a shadowy, mysterious figure, though.
Andy92 Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 For whatever reason I think of the Crystal Sage witch from Dark Souls when the Nightwatcher is referenced.
KnightofLight Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I saw her being like Galadrial from LOTR but with flowing black and silver hair that moves like a river. Also she never really speaks. Haunting eyes. She is part God after all, so I imagine her being a little scary.
