WeiryWriter he/him Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 So I was just checking twitter and saw this twitter exchange: Dave Gandy Any update on plans for a leather-bound edition of Mistborn? Peter Ahlstrom Delayed. Right now we're planning on leather-bound Elantris this year instead. I'm assuming this will be in conjunction with the 10th Anniversary edition (i.e. an "unlimited" trade paperback and a special leather-bound edition for collectors). I don't know about the rest of you but I'm definitely going to start setting money aside for this! 8
Windrunner he/him Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Oh wow. Cosmere leather bound books... As someone who already owns two copies of Elantris, I'm starting to wonder how many I can get before it becomes overkill. xD 2
The Sovereign Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 (edited) This is going to be one of those ... things... Edited July 27, 2015 by Iron Eyes 4
WeiryWriter he/him Posted July 23, 2015 Author Posted July 23, 2015 Peter tweeted a few more details: 10th anniv text, Tor will print it, [isaac Stewart] is designing it, will sell on B's website. 2
Adamir he/him Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Never read Elantris, and sad to say, I ordered a copy two hours before I heard of this. Leatherbound Mistborn though... via Imgflip Meme Maker 1
Titan Arum Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Ohhh! Leather-bound, you say? As one of those people who basically owns all of Brandon's books in ebook format, this will definitely be a guaranteed purchase. Now it's time to simply decide what question I want to ask in my personalized copy of the leather-bound book. Never read Elantris, and sad to say, I ordered a copy two hours before I heard of this. Leatherbound Mistborn though... Sometimes I am jealous of noobs like you: still untouched by all of the Cosmere works in existence. I wish that I had three or four more Cosmere books that I haven't read yet so that I could be amazed as the story develops and be wowed by the worldbuilding. Instead, I opt for just re-reading all of Brandon's books and being amazed as the story develops and wowed by the worldbuilding ...but this time accompanied with a fine-toothed comb to find all the things that I missed before. 4
hypatia she/her Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I 've told my children to set THEIR money aside for a special christmas gift to their old, obsessed mother. Opted for a signed and lined version...no overkill at all - just the fourth copy. 2
Haelbarde he/him Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 And now we have a release date (well, at least I assume we didn't before) - October 6 for the 'Elantris Tenth Anniversary Author's Definitive Edition' (two days before my birthday!). (This comes from near the end of the 4th paragraph of item #1 of the latest new article on Brandon's site).

Haelbarde he/him Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 We've actually known the release date for quite a while. Ooops.... nvm me then!
WeiryWriter he/him Posted September 16, 2015 Author Posted September 16, 2015 So I asked Peter if there were any updates on this since the release is closer and this was his reply: Isaac is furiously finishing the design, which is due this week. The price will be $100. It has a bunch of color starting pages
WeiryWriter he/him Posted September 16, 2015 Author Posted September 16, 2015 How do you get it? That hasn't been announced yet? Like the leatherbound edition itself hasn't been "officially" announced, so we'll probably find out then?
Chaos he/him Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 What's with the question marks? I'm going to go with "he was so confused you asked how to get an unannounced thing that he really wasn't sure how to respond." Obviously, when we have details on how to get this thing, expect a big news article on it. But right now we don't know.
WeiryWriter he/him Posted September 16, 2015 Author Posted September 16, 2015 Pretty much what Chaos said. This thread literally contains everything I know about this edition, if it's not here, I don't know it. I also asked Peter about the size of the print run: 1500 so there should be plenty, but it's hard to judge demand ahead of time.
Blaze1616 he/him Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 1500 sounds like an awfully low amount. Guess I'll have to be on the ball when it gets released.
WeiryWriter he/him Posted September 17, 2015 Author Posted September 17, 2015 Eh it's a fairly reasonable number I think. I remember the first hardcover printing of The Emperor's Soul only had 2,000 copies and they lasted a fair amount of time. So while yes it would be prudent to order sooner rather than later, I don't think you have to worry about ordering as soon as they go on sale.

To be fair the Emperor's Soul was a novella, and not a full blown fantasy novel. Perhaps I'm just worrying when I shouldn't, but I've always felt there were more than 1500 hardcore Sanderson fans that would be willing to shell $100 for something like this.

It had also just won the Hugo for Best Novella, and was substantially cheaper than $100. I don't think there is anything to big to worry about here, but there isn't any harm in erring on the side of caution and ordering it ASAP.

Will there be a News article on this site when they're available? I'd think so, but it's always good to check.

WeiryWriter he/him Posted September 27, 2015 Author Posted September 27, 2015 Okay update from Peter's twitter: Peter AhlstromFinally done with InDesign files for the Elantris leatherbound. The spot blue caused a lot of grief, but I believe we've met sprinter specs.Jennyoooo leather bound??Peter AhlstromYou'll be able to get it on Brandon's website store in November. It's $100 with a lot of bells and whistles.JennyWhoa. Not sold in retail stores?Peter AhlstromThat is correct.
Evil_Reptile Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Okay update from Peter's twitter: Well, I guess I have some more time to decide whether or not to spend my $100 on Elantris.
Mestiv he/him Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 (edited) OMG, $100 for a book + shipping to Europe... I wonder if my girlfriend would try to kill me for paying this much money on one book. That's like 10% of our monthly budget Anyone can estimate for me how much would shipping to Europe cost? EDIT: Never mind, I found that it would be around $40... So in total $140... one of the hardest decisions of this year. Edited September 28, 2015 by Mestiv 3
eefara Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 And Brandon mentioned in his blog post that they'll reprint the book as needed. I'm not sure if I'll be able to afford a single $100 book now, so it's great to hear that I won't lose my chance forever one it sells out.
