I've seen this done for Ferrings and Mistings but no one has come up with a poll for compounders yet. So which compounder would you be?

Me I'd be a Ringer think about it, infinite luck how great would that be.

Also thanks to killersquirrel59, your chart made this a lot easier and hope you don't mind that I used your terms for Gold and Atium compounders since as far as I know there isn't an official name for them.

Edit: changed up the names to be in line with cannon.

Ever since I heard about compounding I've wanted to be double chromium. If you're good, you can basically negate almost all allomancy used against you, and I'm sure most of us are familiar with Matrim Cauthon. Someone with formidable fighting skill mixed with near infinite luck that can be used when needed is not somebody worth fighting.

I can picture them facing down a shardblade and the shardbearer slipping on a rock and accidentally slicing their own jugular.

Yeah, tally up another one for Chromium Compounding. The best part? If you are one, you can almost guarantee you being able to pass the ability on through your bloodline.

Think of it. What are the chances of somebody being a Chromium Twinborn? What about their son/daughter also being one?

Wanna bet on the chances? *Taps infinite luck at the appropriate time*

For me it's not even a choice... Gold/Gold Timeless (from the MAG list, I posted it to the Twinborn Names thread for reference).

Pretty much unkillable, "possibly immortal", though that would more likely be atium/atium

Miles was truly a BAMF... Shame he made bad life choices!

Double Steel all the way, the single best Allomantic ability combined with the powers of the Flash?  Yes please.

I went for double brass, but it's a really tough choice.

Also has Green Hoodie Mistborn pointed out the term for a gold compounder is "Timeless" not "Immortal".

In my case double Electrum Look's amazing. Your self Confidence is something others will notice.and It part of why all the big names are big. Confident leadership. Being able to see my own future is iceing on the cake at that point.

I'm enjoying playing a duralumin compounder from the MAG, though obviously this is non Canon, even more so since we got the WoB about duralumin.

Definitely have to go with double steel. I picture a swift dropping 100 enemies with 100 clips to the forehead in the blink of an eye. In every day life...you sure as heck wouldn't have any trouble getting to places on time.

I suspect double zinc could be the most worthwhile, depending on what increased mental speed can do. A zinc Compounding scientist might be able to do some very interesting things.

On the aging front:

-Bronze effectively extends your lifespan 50%, as you no longer need to sleep. Snazzy.

-Atium would extend your lifespan quite a bit, but at this point the chances of dying to illness or injury increase dramatically and thus it's not as useful as advertised.

-Gold would set your lifespan to a virtually guaranteed 80-100, which is pretty nice. (Possibly longer if you can avoid aging-related illness.)

-Pewter, because Allomantic pewter is pretty great and reduces your chances of death enormously.

None of these are ideal. I'd need to look at some actuary tables. Aging is also sort of irrelevant in the cosmere, what with the afterlife being confirmed on being a thing (assuming Harmony hasn't been staying quiet on that front).

On the supervillain front:

-Iron. Oh, was there a skyscraper there? (Note: needs some way to survive doing this.)

-Brass. I'm sorry, did you not want a miniature sun in the middle of New York?

-Duralumin could allow you to manipulate basically anyone, depending on how it works.

And of course I agree with the most likely to be useful one probably being chromium, depending on what effects luck are limited to.

I think I'd go for zinc? Question mark? This question's really hard.

Try pulling from as far away as possible and hope you can get out of the way or that the momentum of the structure runs out before it crushes you. If that fails try keeping some kind of shelter handy that wont get destroyed by little things like having a 50 story building thrown against it. Your best solution would be to spike some poor coinshot for his steel pushing but if your a villain things like ethics shouldn't matter.

Question...if you are a durlumin compounder...can you super flash burn a LOT of connection in an instant? And what would that do?

That triple post. 50 minutes apart too.

Well allomancy only has a gradient going between low burn and flared. I'd assume you mean burning a lump of normal duralumin in order to burst a duraliminmind you're also burning?

I guess same thing as duralumin bursting anything else? Release the power way more strongly than you'd have any business needing that much for in such a short period of time that you really shouldn't even consider it unless you think the immediate effect would help? Launching yourself off a roof by bursting steel is similarly useless unless you also have spare steel in a bottle to save yourself on your trip back down. I'd guess bursting your duraluminminds would make everyone trust you so much they'd believe anything you say to them for what, 2 seconds?

Which would actually be more effective than you'd assume now that I think about it. I've seen people here say that storing and tapping connection might work both ways and make you trust them as well, so if that's true it actually removes the risk of the "connection" working on yourself in reverse and giving you doubts afterwards. Since it's gone. Of course whatever it is you wanted them to trust you on it better be worth it right at that moment.

My friends and i discussed this. Recall that feruchemy can already use it all at once, so of i compound and store to build reserves, i can super connect all at once whether or not you can duraboost Feruchemical metals.

We posited that much like how compounding iron would destroy the building You're standing on even after your weight reverts back to normal, your "connection" to those around you might not survive a burst of duralumin like that, like the filament of a lightbulb burning out from too much heat. In theory, this would leave you and the other person both incapable of any emotional feeling for each other, ever again.

Then i told my friend of that ever happened to us, I'd miss him. Well, i wouldn't, i guess. But i would intellectually realize i should miss him.

Sorry I was going off the list killersquirrel59 posted in his twinborn names thread http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/19184-twinborn-names/ he had timeless Edit: (sorry wasn't paying attention here and I confused Timeless and Ageless) listed as double Atium which I personally think makes more scene since these people wont age but aren't immortal, they can be killed by disease or injury. If anything the best term for a gold compounder would be invincible since they can die from old age but are immune to pretty much everything else.

Yeah, there were probably better choices to go with, but Timeless is the one that ended up being "canon".  BTW in post 5 of that thread Green Hoodie Mistborn posted a link to the Twinborn names sample from the Alloy supplement for the MAG, which lists the known, canon, twinborn names.

Maybe nicrosil? If other people Also have magic. Those are two powers with interesting meta magical potential. Imagine of a Soulbearer ferring were trained in a Soulcaster fabrial, were able to store some trait thereby, and then compound it allomantically.

Posted

Soulburst, for sure- I'm assuming storing investiture stores bits of innate investiture (but you're not invested enough to be immune to lashings, etc) but by compounding it you could quite literally become immune to other users of investiture, e.g. a shardblade- according to WoB they are immune to lashings, steelpushes, etc- so by becoming a super-invested object you would [probably] become immune to every direct use of investiture on you. A coin slammed into my head would still kill me, but just using nicrosil to empty reserves on the opponent, I could remove their chance of that. Is everyone following my logic here? We still don't fully understand what a Nicrosil ferring does yet, but I'm pretty certain it would do something like I said.

Posted

Zinc, definitely. Infinitely increased mental speed? I'd be able to write almost as fast as Brandon, and without the distractions!

Posted

Soulburst for me, for a list of reasons including the likely applications of an Investiture metalmind.  It feels like there's so much potential (energy) there.

I mean, think about it: if the Investiture stored is the raw stuff, you're pretty much giving yourself a generator for your powers here on other worlds.  And this assumes the Investiture stored can't be used for other power systems, such as "emulating" the effects of other Allomantic metals, just to name one example theory.

Imagine Wax...only instead of a lot of weight...he has infinite speed...would Miles have been a problem? "No ...it's cool... I just keep tieing him up...and I got a few of his metalminds this time...OR...when Wayne puts up a speed bubble...Wax empties his shotguns 222 times in the blink of an eye (accuracy be damned).

Come to think of it...it wouldn't't be a compounder...but...a twinborn who could store in steel and burn either chromium or bendalloy would be pretty sweet!
