  1. Yes, it could be that he was just showing the freedom that bridge four now has, but that just seems too obvious/easy to me. But I tend to over think things Also, Kaladin again mentions that he's missing: And this just happened to be the night of a Highstorm, but not sure if that's important or not. Then when Teft reappears:
  2. Thanks! It can't be Shallan because at that point in the book, I don't think she was at the Shattered Plains yet, but I could be wrong.
  3. Does anyone know where Teft went when he seemed to disappear for a time? I searched "Teft" on the forums, but didn't see anything related. Sorry if this was already asked. We don't know what we don't know, but I didn't know if anyone had any thoughts on where he was or what he might be doing. I don't think it's anything Envisinger (sp?) related, but it IS most definitely odd that he made himself scarce. And on a side note, any idea who the ardent is in the same passage where Kaladin realizes that Teft hasn't been around?
  4. I don't think they NEED mateform to reproduce, but they prefer to be in it while they try. Although Eshonai seems to think this particular form is distasteful because it creates lack of concentration and inhibitions.
  5. I'm not sure how to word it so you don't get RAFO'd to be honest. I'd go with what you have and just see what he says Another point to make in favor of the plate being somehow related to spren is the fact that it can change shape to fit anyone who wears it almost instantaneously. We see this several places, but most notably in WoR duel scene when Kal uses a helm on his hand/fist and it forms to it. I'm not sure if a fabrial can do that or not...
  6. Oh wow...I'll have to go back through there and re-read the thread. I could have sworn I read in there that you COULD bond more than one spren. Thanks!
  7. This could very well be true. But I do think that this is a story about an event that all ready took place. If I'm recalling correctly, Shinovar doesn't get hit by the highstorms in present day. I believe that's where Rysn gets her patch of grass from
  8. Yep...I'd love to know where Shardplate originates from too. I suppose we'll find out eventually As for your thoughts. I kind of agree. I'll admit I'm being somewhat wishy washy here because to be honest, I see lots of possibilities out there around Shardplate! I also think that the plate is somehow spren related. And I do like the thought of windspren somehow working with/bonding with Syl to create the plate (if I understood your post correctly). I agree with you and also don't think Syl is the plate. I think it's definitely something different. Either a different spren, or possibly a link to the Parshendi somehow since they seem to "grow" their plate and Shardplate, when shattered needs to "regrow". I posted my first official "theory" earlier today about multiple spren bonding, and essentially Shardplate is one of the reasons that I think we'll see our KR bond in some way to another source other than their current spren. Something that I find interesting is that in some passages (which I'll try to add in later as I'm not by the book atm) is that it mentions that the plate glows around where the "joints" would be. I got the impression that the some of the shardplates may contain two different colors...an overall glow and a separate color at the joints.
  9. So, this is my first "official" theory, and to be honest, it's not completely formed yet. I'll try to add/update as it solidifies in my brain and as I find supportive quotes. At this point, it's more of a gut feeling, but I could be WAAYYY off LOL. In a nutshell, I believe one of two things. Either a) that each/all of the KR will end up ultimately bonding 2 spren. The next question would seem to be, which ones? And, how would they do it? Or b ) that KR will be paired and bonded in some way. If we take option a, it may be that in order to bond a second spren, the specialized skills of the Bondsmiths may be needed. Not sure what that would be or how it would work yet, but it could be an additional meaning to the "unite them" message that Dalinar is motivated by. We know there is conflict among the KR, and also the spren. We don't know yet exactly what the tension is between them, but we can deduce (and it's been mentioned by others here) that it's because of conflicting ideals such as with Syl and Pattern. In this theory, the KR would quite literally bond two different spren. With option b, which I'm tending to like much better than a, the Bondsmiths would be able to create a link between two Radiants, by creating some sort of bond between their spren. I don't know if it would cause the spren to quite literally "merge" in some way, or if it would be more along the lines of an oath. I tend to think oath. I also feel like the Parshendi are involved somehow since they can bond with spren as well, but I haven't quite figured out how. Have to chew on that a bit more I suppose.
  10. Plus, if I'm remembering correctly, didn't he use colored "dust" in his storytelling?
  11. Yes, most definitely the Windrunner glyph. I wasn't questioning what it was, just that we don't know yet if it's normal for that phenomenon to occur when a Windrunner speaks the 3rd oath or not. Or as someone else said, maybe it was just Syl showing off The other part of it is, why would a dead Parshendi have a knife that shows Jezzrien on the hilt?
  12. Agreed on both accounts above Lomeon and PudgyNinja! I was more so questioning two specific points in those quotes. 1) The symbol being etched behind him like wings...while I do get that this is presumed to be Jezzrien on the hilt and the same symbol appears behind Kal because of him being the Herald of the Windrunners, we just don't know yet if the "WOW" factor of the way the glyph appeared behind him is "normal" for a Windrunner taking the 3rd oath, or if it makes him special in some way, or as pointed out, if Syl was just showing off 2) What is the significance, if any, of a dead Parshendi warrior carrying a knife that depicts Jezzrien on the hilt? A lot of what we've seen of the Parshendi thus far leads us to believe that their "God" may be Odium/Odiumspren. While my personal belief is that they were once, and have the potential to be again "on the good side", we just haven't seen anything that I can recall that specifically links them to Jezzrien or any of the other Heralds. Am I wrong about that?
  13. Just a quick shout out to whoever it was that successfully decoded this. YOU ARE MY HERO!!
  14. I'm not sure why Kal is different, but I do think he is. I posted this under a different Kal thread, but I think it's worth noting here as well: FROM OTHER THREAD: I'm not sure if Kal is/will be anything more than a KR, but I should like to think so! One thing that I did find interesting and am waiting to see how it plays out is if the Parshendi will have any bearing on Kal progressing as a KR, or if they will have some other tie to him in the future. I say this based on a knife that was found in the chasms by bridge 4 in TWoK: And when Kaladin says the 3rd oath in WoR: Hmmmmmm....thoughts?

  16. LOL arcmourn! You know, I was thinking more about all of the growth/Cultivation theories out there about shardplate and the more I think about them, I feel like there is something significant there. We know that shardplate is grown based on comments that Adolin makes (or thinks) during the final Parshendi battle. Well, what if the plate is connected to the Parshendi somehow? They are able to grow plate and they also bond with spren. There are so many possibilities! Plus there's a whole side of things we still know nothing/little about which is spren politics. Also, the Parshendi/spren relationship. I'm going to have to do a reread now and really pay attention to topics on these forums and highlight passages! Back to this topics original question...I agree with most others that the plate is there to help protect them from injury to prevent excess stormlight use, and in particular to protect from voidbringer attacks.
  17. @Bondranx - Yes! Chapter 89 "The Four". I have the Kindle edition, so don't know the hardcopy page numbers.
  18. I bet that is the quote I'm thinking of Vortaan. I there were references made in other threads to Dalinar's visions where plate (specifically I think it was a helm) disappeared from a KR. I think it was the village/farmhouse scene from TWoK. That seems very shardblade like to me. Although...I know there was reference in WoR to them having to "regrow" their shattered plate pieces and it taking a long time. I really do like that theory too. I just don't see them being a fabrial, although we obviously know they had pretty advanced fabrial skills proven by the Oathgate.
  19. I linked to my theory on Shardplate in my original post on page 1 of this thread, but I have to say that I agree with you Vortaan. I don't think they come from the same place necessarily. I DO think both are from a spren bond somehow, but multiple spren. I originally posted my thoughts on this in the Shallon Relationship thread but it could really apply here too. I think that Shallan and Kal have a close relationship and hit it off so well because they will be bonding each others spren, or maybe a common third spren in the future. I know that currently Syl/Pattern don't get along, but I think that will/needs to change. And I could have SWORN that I read something somewhere in this book that lead me to believe that the current assumption about humans betraying their spren was wrong and that it was actually the SPREN that betrayed the HUMANS. Or possibly they betrayed one another (Spren Wars...new show airing soon LOL) which ultimately caused the KR to fall because blade/plate didn't work anymore due to spren civil war. I'll see if I can find the passages in the book that support that. If I can't...well then I just might prove myself mad
  20. Hmmmm...I read this and was reminded of someone's signature line I read once "Oh snap! I'm an allomancer" LOL. I agree. And as referenced by my quote above, reminds me of the Mistborn/allomancer selection process.
  21. Ok, so I'll see what I can do with the paragraph that has the wherewherewherewhere in it and the SetOff...etc. in it. I still think that one, at least by format and content, seems pertinent in that it's odd
  22. I took the liberty of taking some numbers out of your quote, SpydrJOAT, that I didn't have comments on to shorten the post. Hope you don't mind These three points have been rolling around in my head the past couple of hours. I am nowhere near as smart as others posting here, so have no hope of figuring this out, but also hope to help if I can! I love #2 because the first thing I did when attempting to find links/patterns on this was look for obvious connections. Specifically, the numbers reference "pattern 15", and there is a specific epigraph that is from the Desk Drawer paragraph 15 (see below) "There is one you will watch. Though all of them have some relevance to precognition, Moelach is one of the most powerful in this regard. His touch seeps into a soul as it breaks apart from the body, creating manifestations powered by the spark of death itself. But no, this is a distraction. Deviation. Kingship. We must discuss the nature of kingship. From the Diagram, Book of the 2nd Desk Drawer: paragraph 15" That red text is what I found interesting....I have no idea how that could help break a code, but hey, you never know #5 I saw this too, and I think it's been mentioned already in this thread, but I agree this is highly suspect unless it's there just to throw us off! As you pointed out, it does specifically reference Coda, pattern and clue... #6 I KNOW RIGHT!?!?!?! That specific passage/epigraph has been driving me NUTS!! What the heck is that supposed to mean?? Hmmmmm.... Edit to add more... So expanding on #6 comments above...the other thing that is driving me crazy in this text is the "wherewherewherewhere". That doesn't make sense to me. Also, I have the kindle version of the book because my hardcopy got shipped back to Amazon due to the fact that they couldn't find my address (which is ridiculous because we get packages from UPS and Fedex nearly EVERY DAY GRRRR....) and I didn't want to wait to read the book, so just download the e-copy I digress... My point is that in the kindle version at least, this passage matches the "format" of the numbers passage eerily well. Same number of lines, same format. I find it odd if this isn't formatted this way on purpose: 111825101112712491512101011141021511 711210111217134483111071514254143410 916149149341212254101012512710151910 111234125511525121575511123410111291 5121061534 "AhbuttheywereleftbehindItisobviousfromthenatureof thebondButwherewherewherewhereSetOffObvious RealizationlikeapricityTheyarewithintheShinWemust findoneCanwemaketouseaTruthlessCanwecrafta weapon From the Diagram, Floorboard 17: paragraph 2, every second letter starting with the first"
  23. Loved this book! I wasn't sure how to feel about Shallan at the end of TWoK, but after WoR, I really like her! Although I did call her killing her Mother almost immediately, but NOT the part about her using pattern to do it! Jasnah is my absolute favorite character, so I was shocked and upset by her death but was holding on to hope that she had taken a jaunt to Shadesmar My only issue was with Kaladin when he went all revenge mode and "killed" Syl. It doesn't detract from my overall love of the book because I'm fairly certain that's exactly how I was supposed to be feeling Of course all was forgiven when he went all KR instead! Now, the torturous wait for the next book...UGH!
  24. Great question! And very good points. I hadn't really thought about the fact that someone like Kal wouldn't really *need* shardplate since he can heal from a blow by a shardblade. I'll add more momentarily, but I posted something in the Shallan Relationship thread that sort of applies to this question. Link (I hope it works!): http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/6519-shallans-relationship/page-11 So while this is a theory about *how* shardplate might come into existence, I guess it still doesn't answer the question you're asking which is what is it's purpose/benefit to a KR? Let me ponder that one and get back to you a little later today after some more research and after I get some food in my system to kickstart my brain LOL!
