  1. This pairing does disturb me for some reason. No real reason why. I just don't picture them being fit for one another. I love each of them individually, just don't see them really connecting for some reason.
  2. I agree with this. I think there's something very Ryshadium-ish going on with these Larkins!
  3. Thank you all for the edumication I didn't realize that about Scadrial or Roshar. It's good to know it's been confirmed this is the only major landmass on Roshar!
  4. I was thinking the SAME THING Ryshadium! I remember a long time ago a statement saying that we'd see more about a different region of Scadrial at some point. I just don't know if you could have the two different types of magic systems on the same planet, but in different regions. Also, although it seems likely that the "dates" in the Chapter 88 epigraph are actually dates, could they correspond to map locations instead? I only ask because the comment below says that they "appear" to be a sequence of dates. I am NOT map knowledgeable, so I could be totally wrong. But thought I'd throw it out there!
  5. So sad! I don't want any to die. But I voted for Adolin and Elhokar as the goners with the hope that Dalinar, Renarin, Navani and Jasnah will survive. I absolutely LOVE Jasnah's character and would hate to see her die Dalinar too, but I could see him biting the dust at some point.
  6. Something else that I found in another thread was about the Oldbloods. I searched the coppermind as well and it seems we know very little about them at this point. Not sure if you want to ask about them or not, but thought I'd bring it up since someone else suggested we might want to ask Brandon about them at some point. Soooo bummed I have to miss the Chicago/Milwaukee signings as we're going to be out of town or I'd ask the question myself
  7. So, if we go down the path of the author being female, could it possibly be Kalami, the wife of Teleb? I'm doing my TWoK reread now, and I had highlighted from my previous read of the book the passage that identifies Teleb of being an Oldblood, and this about Kalami: Granted, I haven't done a search for her name yet in TWoK or WoR, and I honestly don't recall if she was mentioned anywhere else. But since she was pointed out as being a female historian who was recording the war, I thought I'd bring this up as a possibility.
  8. All I can think about is the poor fish flopping around on the ground when the water drains before the highstorm Of course, I guess they could just get sucked down along with the water and then get pushed back out when it reappears, but the first statement is what popped into my mind when I first read that in the book. I agree...something really interesting going on in the Purelake! Ishikk was one of my favorite interludes and I can't WAIT to hear more about it! I'll add comments with more substance if I find any good tidbits during my TWoK reread.
  9. I firmly believe she's alive, and that we'll see her fight back against the stormform monster she's become. That's in my land of Roshar of course. No idea if it'll happen in Brandon's or not
  10. I'm doing my reread of TWoK right now, and found these passages very interesting. If I'm reading this correctly, then Dalinar may very well have subconsciously figured out the secret to shardplate This was during the Chasmfiend hunt scene: And again when Adolin thought back on the memory of that moment: So either his plate really was glowing, or he had some seriously stormlight infusion going on or....both? And if not spren related, then how was it glowing similar to the KR of old (minus the glowing glyphs of course)?
  11. I don't remember Renarin having his own diagram, but just cuz I don't remember it doesn't mean it didn't happen LOL! That's what happens when you get old-ish. I would like him to be able to see potential Radiants, but I haven't decided yet if that's what I'm settling on as my final "guess". It would definitely help things progress! As a side note...I'm wondering if that's where Teft was! If Renarin was already a part of bridge 4 when Teft went missing just before the highstorm, then maybe he was with Renarin and helping him with his abilities. He was after all the first one to suspect Kaladin. I can see him spotting it in Renarin too, and Renarin asking him to keep it to himself.
  12. Good point. If they gave them a spren trapped in a gemstone and stuck them out in a highstorm...maybe it would take but I doubt it. I still think it's selective. Either by the spren refusing to bond with them, or from what you said PudgyNinja...they have to do the ritual 100% on their own.
  13. Upvote for that! I would LOVE to see Lirin the Edgedancer!!
  14. I'm way confused all ready with all of the organizations LOL, but I think she might have been involved with Nin/Darkness somehow. He's the only other person/entity that I know of that has been actively killing surgebinders specifically. If she was involved with him in some way, I can see her trying to kill Shallan. There's probably some other organization out there that's trying to kill surgebinders specifically, but I can't think of any at the moment. I'll have to go back and re-read that thread that outlined all of the secret organizations.
  15. I think this might have been asked in another thread, but I'll add my two cents here since I didn't there. Bottom line is that I think Kal's Mom is more than she appears. Not sure how any of them will react to Kal, but regardless, I don't think Kal will have any relationship, except maybe friendship, with Laral. And that's depending upon how things ended up with Roshone and how involved she is with him at this point, if at all. I'd like to think that it will be a very warm and teary-eyed homecoming for him with his Mom and Dad.
  16. I like the idea that was mentioned about spren bonding with horses to create the Ryshadium. BUT if there weren't many horses around earlier on, that might not make much sense. Also, I found this line interesting. Spoken by Wit in the epilogue:
  17. No, I don't think we know that for sure. The way it's spoken of in the books, it seems like they are a different species, not a different "form" to me. She doesn't specifically say "the slaveform" or anything like that. Actually, just searched "slaveform" and it's there! Based on this, in theory they can convert them to parshendi if they can attach a spren to them. But it may work kind of like it does with humans. Not ALL humans can bond with spren, or rather, the spren don't choose to bond with them. Maybe it's similar with the Parshmen. Spren WON'T bond with them???
  18. I must have been reading super fast and missed that part of it...grrrrr...need to do that re-read. Starting with TWoK re-read first though.
  19. @Nero Vance...I think it was the spren of the "islands". BUT that being said, in TWoK, he was searching for captivity spren, which in a nice twist of fate Kaladin sees in WoR Since he was captured on the island, maybe he was still looking for those too...
  20. Nice catch! I totally missed that! +1 for you
  21. Could be that only certain Parshendi forms allowed the bonding with the KR to happen. But I do see your point. Also, after I posted about the whole "I'll hear you no matter where I am" thing, I realized that could also be because of the spren...transmitting info via the cognitive realm maybe?? I still like the Parshendi idea better personally though.
  22. I REALLY like this! I've posted previously that I believe strongly that our KR friends will end up with another bond somehow and I wasn't sure how that would happen. Maybe via bondsmith, OR my gut still tells me that the Parshendi are somehow involved. Which if that IS the case, then this could somewhat support both our theories. Say for example, you have Kal and Shallan (ignoring the spren conflict for now because ultimately I think that has to be resolved). If you look at their divine attributes, you have Protecting/Leading and Creative/Honest Now, I think they share two of those traits, and then each retain one that is unique to themselves and that excel at. In this case, Kal's specialty would be protecting and Shallan's would be creative. They share Leading and Honest. I can see them forming some kind of bond with say an Artform Parshendi (there may be a better one to link them to that we don't know about yet) but for now, this is the best option. Obviously because of Shallan's ability and because Kal's skill with the spear can also be considered artful. Edited to add...this might have something to do with Shardplate too since we know the Parshendi can grow armor/plate to protect themselves. Since we know spren can't attract one another (I think Syl said something about that) maybe the Parshendi form the tie that allows the "not intelligent spren" to come to the aid of the KR in the form of shardplate. In this example, that would be the creation spren and some sort of spren that would represent protecting via the Parshendi link. Again, this may not be the ultimate "right" form of Parshendi to link to these two, but it's the best I got with what we know currently. I'll try to put together some other examples too. It might help clarify what I'm trying to say Oh, oh oh!!!!!! This could also explain how the KR can hear a call from someone regardless of where they are! I'm referring to the vision in TWoK where the healing KR says to Heb to call her if he needs her and not to worry, she'll hear him (even though she flew off to another part of the town). Because we know the Parshendi have the "group thought" type of communication ability. That HAS to play a part in this somehow!! Or am I getting way too excited for nothing LOL.
  23. Oooooh, I hadn't made that connection! Good one! Me too!!
  24. I have to go and re-read that interlude. I remember also thinking that there was something VERY important about that interlude. Well, most of them to be honest LOL. But particularly with the Larkin. Can't remember if there was any inkling of all about Rysn potentially being a surgebinder or not. I don't think there was, but I do think she'll be one eventually. What I took from this passage is that the Larkin is similar to the Ryshadium in that it chooses who it aligns itself with. And, this may be a VERY long stretch assumption here on my part, but if she does become a KR, I think she'll end up in the Willshapers order. Why? 1. The Larkin has silver eyes, and Willshapers essence is metal. 2. She's a trader...good negotiating skills/shaper of wills 3. This is the really long stretch...I think each of our KR will have a special bond/relationship with their opposites on the current order chart that we have. i.e. Willshapers/Dustbringers, Windrunners/Lightweavers etc. I know this doesn't seem plausible at the moment because of the spren relationships that we know of to date (Syl/Pattern) but, I think they'll get over that in future books in some way...maybe help from a bondsmith? If you look at the Divine attributes, this kind of makes sense because I see overlap in most of them. Let's take WIndrunners and Lightweavers as an example. All four attributes for those two orders are: Protecting/Leading/Creative/Honest. I see overlapping attributes as honest and leading and individual attributes as protecting (Kal) and creative (Shallan) which just happen to be their unique strengths. If we take Rysn specifically and assume she will be a willshaper, that would mean the four attributes would be Resolute/Builder/Brave/Obedient. I see all of these attributes in Rysn, so not sure which ones yet would be shared, and which would be individual at this point, but we shall see as soon as we meet our first Dustbringer
  25. Again, I searched the forums, but didn't see this topic specifically unless it was commented on in the body of other threads. In WoR epilogue when Wit is talking to the "ugly lizard-crab-thing" he states: Then he goes on to have a very interesting conversation with the ugly lizard-crab-thing about art which I suspect is more important than I can fathom at the moment BUT, it made me wonder about the blind man story that he had with Shallan earlier on. Does this statement mean that he's also the blind man in THAT story? It's from the end of chapter 45: There's more to that story, but I didn't want to type it all out. These quotes/points may have been brought up in another forum or thread specific to Wit/Hoid or maybe the Cosmere, but thought I'd bring it up here since these passages are WoR specific. Questions: 1. I think it's safe to assume that Wit is one of the blind men in the story that he tells Shallan. Any ideas which one? 2. Do we know who the blind men are?? I doubt it, but thought I'd ask since I have absolutely no idea. I LOVE the cosmere, but it hurts my brain most of the time thinking about it! 3. When he references "that other statement" is he talking about the "contemplating the beauty of nature." part? If so, any ideas why that statement is so important? He makes a point to italicize very stating that it's a very clever statement. I'm not sure why that would be. Unless he saying that it's clever because that's what he's doing at that very moment?? 4. If he's spiritually bind, does that mean he can access/see/interact with the cognitive realm and physical realm, but NOT the spiritual realm? Or does he just not believe in spirituality anymore??
