It makes sense that way, but there are pink gems after all, so why chose garnet for Ash then? Although Lightweavers make no oaths and that's different enough to convince me other thing with their Order might be different as well. Sorry for derailing the topic. On topic: I am convinced the lack of Taln's icon at the beginning of his interlude means something's not quite the way it seems. WoK chapter had Hoid and Taln and WoR has Hoid and Chana, so something happened between those events for sure. Edit: turns out there is pink garnet,
-
By this logic Edgedancers have either no color (diamond) or let's say white, which is also kind of strange, but acceptable to me. Do you think two Heralds have red eyes? Chana's gem is Ruby and garnet is Ash's. I don't imagine two red eyed Orders I don't think we can tie eyecolor and Orders yet.
-
It's not a 100% certain I admit, but it's widely accepted Hoid is the one the strangers in Ishik's interlude in WoK were looking for: Another thing is Sigzil's reaction to Rock's story who seems to recognize the description. Rock himself hasn't met Wit yet, so it's an open discussion. Even if it was Mraize in the Horneater's lake, I don't see it as supporting Mraize=Herald theory, but I suppose it can work either way depending on what you think about the said pool.

The only thing I find strange is Dalinar never referring to Sadeas by his first name and Sadeas calling him Dalinar most of the time.

Physical Appearance Changes
Aleksiel replied to Glaring at the Survivor's topic in Stormlight Archive
Um, Warbreaker spoilers ahead Also, I don't see enough common things between Returned and surgebinders for this theory to work. The fist chose to come back to fulfill a duty and the later are chosen by spren and follow their own agenda. Returned need to infuse themselves so they might live and surgebinders use stormlight for surges and not basic survival. -
Hoid does have white hair, he just dyes it. Also, the Blade that ends up in Dalinar's camp is different from the one Taln originally had in Kholinar, so someone swapped them and it's widely believed it was Hoid who did it as he was there and during the trip. If Mraize is more than a worldhopper, a Herald as you suggest, he'd be one of those who betrayed the Oathpact, because he has been around for too long to be the real Talenelat' Elin.

Did Hierocracy heavily edit Truthwatchers?
Aleksiel replied to kari-no-sugata's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, foreseeing has been proclaimed abomination (or whatever the correct phrase is) after the fall of the Hierocracy. The Sunmaker declared their visions as lies, so he would be the one to hide all info about Truthwatchers. Though I'm inclined to believe the visions of the priests were more like the visions Dalinar has and not like Renarin's. But whichever it is, blame it on the Sunmaker and not the Hierocracy. -
Isn't it strange that the only male Herald Taln doesn't mention is Nalan and the only female Herald he talks about is Vedel? I'm not sure where I'm going with this, though.
-
Thank you Moogle and RShara I was about to say the Heralds don't count as Returned because they haven't died an then I corrected myself immediately. Interesting. I need to think about it. But a Returned will most likely survive on Roshar using stormlight as replacement of Breath, there are some WoB close to this.
-
Yeah, and we both don't know what's the word for the things He doesn't really list all the Heralds. Nalan isn't mentioned, nor Paliah or Ash or Chana or Battar.
-
I didn't read all the comments, so someone might have brought it up already, but it's worth noting that: Taln's chapter doesn't have him as a Herald, but Hoid and Chana. I don't know about her, but I am suspicious of every chapter that has the masked man indicating Hoid. Also, it's strange for his Heraldic icon to be missing in his own PoV. However, the epilogue of WoK has both Taln and Hoid. So, I agree that this Taln in WoR might not be the Taln we saw at the end of WoK.

Would Gavilar have become a Bondsmith? (spoilers)
Aleksiel replied to Grimm's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, it seems like he had the same visions as Dalinar, however the Stormfather didn't explain what kind of people get them. Amaram thought he was doing what Gavilar had wanted (at least that was my impression), and that's not KR-ish at all. He may have had the potential, but I don't think he would have gotten that far. -
[Theory] It has been foreshadowed that Adolin will be a Radiant.
Aleksiel replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, there are spren causing the Trill and death rattles, so this may be foreshadowing of another spren that is drawn to (potential) surgebinders and has some minimal communicative abilities. -
I originally thought Willshapper would fit Elhokar, but I began to doubt later in WoR. I agree he's not Lightwever's material and he must be one of the three shadesmar-ish spren, which leaves us with Elsecallers and Willshappers. Your arguments make a lot of sense and he doesn't come out as a particularly wise, but Elhokar is trying hard to be; also his spren reacted strange to Syl and Kal. Ivory was the one who was uncomfortable being even talked about and Pattern just has a natural camouflage. So I can't decide which orders suits him better. Though I can't make any good arguments of Elhokar being an Elsecaller; the pattern so far is to have one Radiant per Order; Elhokar's spren is similar to Jasnah's and Shallan's, therefor Willshapper appears to be the likeliest, even though I still don't view Elhokar as having love for adventures, oddity and novelty despite what you wrote. But I'm rereading WoR, may be I'll think differently by the end of it.
-
I've missed this about Ivory. Can you provide a quote? But he doesn't fit well the Willshappers' description of having 'a general love of adventure, novelty, or oddity'.

Squires are not surgebinders, but use stormlight nonetheless and enhanced speed is not a surge.

Originally, I thought Elhokar was followed by Willshaper spren because of the similarity with Shallan's and the pattern of having one Radiant per Order. However, Elhokar doesn't fit the personality description of Willshapers. He claims the shadows disappeared with Kal and Syl's appearance, but Pattern didn't seem to hide specifically from anyone. However, Ivory was uncomfortable with Jasnah even speaking about him. He may not be particularly wise, but he is careful. He tries very hard to avoid mistakes and listen to conceal. Unfortunately, the more careful he approaches a subject, the worse results he gets. I agree he is a potential Radiant, but I'm hesitant on him being a Lightweaver.

A Herald went back and took his/her Blade according to WoB. However, I'm not convinced that was Nalan. True, Lift called him awesome and he did infuse himself with some stormlight, but he did not surgebind to get to her or to Ym for that matter. He hasn't manifested surgebinding abilities. There could be another explanation to his ability like a bond of some sort; KR like Windrunners had squires who were not surgebinders. I'm not saying Nalan is someone's squire only that there might be another explanation to him consuming stormlight. Again, Nalan didn't surgebind, so he might not be in possession of his Honorblade. I'll make a wild guess and pick Chana as a likely candidate here. Her attribute is obedience. So, she disobeys Honor once and follows Jezrien's lead to break the Oathpact; then she changes her mind and disobeys the disobedience by getting her Blade back. I like this if only for the lol factor.

Honestly, I have no idea what 'axial interconnection' means.

Taravangian calls it ancient evil spren, but he could be wrong. I don't really understand this whole unmade thing yet. -

edit: woops; read it wrong. shinintendo answered it though. -
[Theory] It has been foreshadowed that Adolin will be a Radiant.

A spren causes the Thrill, so the absence of it just shows the spren was absent and nothing on Adolin as a person. -
Let's talk about Kaladin's attitude in WoR.
Aleksiel replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I was at times annoyed or frustrated with Kaladin preciously because his arc was very realistic and brilliantly written; I think Brandon intended for the readers feel this way. So, even though I may say 'I hated when Kal agreed with Elhokar's assassination' I in no way mean it wasn't perfect for the story or believable. I think Kaladin is the best character Brandon have written so far. Do I make sense? -
Jsnah and Sigzil would make a nice match. But I still Jasadin because reasons Jasnah is beautiful, classy and brilliant. It would be impossible to not notice her. But I think she'll find Kaladin outrageously rude (she thought this about Sabarial and let's face it - Kal ain't the respectful type when it comes to lighteyes). I don't think age difference will be the problem here. Jasnah won't remind Kal of his mother the way Shallan did with her smartass comments, but she'd certainly earn his respect at some point. I just like the pairing, but I won't write an essay on it. Jasadin could work and it might as well not. RAFO
