  1. Gloomspren appeared with Kaladin, so I don't think it's Urithiru. The cause could be the everstorm stirring the CR and pushing some spren to act differently or to move to a part of CR where they are more likely to briefly manifest in the Physical Realm due to momentary attraction.
  2. It could be that. We also know dead spren become a little alive when summoned, so after a fashion Pattern could have become a little self aware thus granting Shallan access to her surges. WoB doesn't clarify if it was the acknowledgement he exists or the specific act of attempted summoning.
  3. It was.. um, my pleasure to break your theory I too wonder about what Pattern said, could she even bond a new Cryptic if she killed Pattern? And why the storm would the Cryptics insist on sending another to the same person? Pattern isn't good with lies and exaggeration.
  4. Some related WoB about Shallan and Pattern (spoiler for length): So she didn't break the bond, but she couldn't have used her abilities without starting to summon Pattern, which is very interesting.
  5. She can soulcast due to her Nahel bond. If she kills Pattern, she wouldn't be able to do it; she had to revive him in WoK before that. Sure, having the soul for a bond is special, but it doesn't explain Pattern's words. There might be something as was in the case you pointed, but so far I don't see what it would be.
  6. I keep thinking how Pattern says the Cryptics would send another in his place if Shallan kills him and I wonder - why are they so fixated on her? Why not send to bond someone else? Is it even possible to bond another spren while having a dead previous one?
  7. I'm not sure if it's connected to race, but more likely to the metaphorical sense, to what white as a color symbolizes in many cultures before it was also turned as some racial thing. People have used the expression before and I want to point out white isn't even a race. Who's white varies among cultures, it's not some static easily defined concept.
  8. May be Renarin could show her some perfect image of herself if he unconsciously uses his surges on her like he did with Adolin.
  9. I wonder if it will be one of the books Adolin just handed to Shallan. A book by the Sunmaker seems important enough for Jasnah and Navani to have made him study it, so I'm sticking to my pet theory the Sunmaker is the author and Shallan finds it in Urithiru Just not the way I initially thought she would come across it. I wouldn't say that. Of course, you can always be like Shallan and paint it negatively. Adolin suggested reconsidering social norms in general. Very... edgedancer-ish of him, like his dead Blade that could become a little alive when Shallan touches it. Boy, this got so equivocal
  10. Pattern is hilarious, these were some of the funniest chapters Brandon has written. And we got some foreshadowing in favor of Adolin reviving his Blade. It was so nice seeing him being open minded about women using Blades and sharing his passion with Shallan, who couldn't help but get offended while thinking all darkeyes are peasants Oh, Shallan... Do Forge a less classist version of yourself...
  11. Here's Roshar on a globus: The red line is the Equator. I found another where it's even more obvious, but for some reason I can't add another picture. Oh, well.
  12. I like your theory! Rock send a word to his family on the Peaks, but didn't hear back from them, so we have foreshadowing for something going horribly wrong there.
  13. Whether or not Elhokar has some grand scheme is his mind, he essentially persuaded Dalinar to give him the most powerful weapon in his possession - the Honorblade, so that Elhokar can retake the capital and open the Oathgate there. It looked completely sincere and innocent, but it may or may not be so. I do not think Dalinar would have even considered that if it wasn't for Elhokar's haste and insistence plus the pressure to answer him in front of a bunch of people.
  14. I don't remember noticing that big a difference in the first episode, but I watched FMAB way after FMA. I consider FMAB better - you might feel the same way for the next few episodes, but you'll change your opinion soon after that.
  15. Well, Elhokar did worn Dalinar last book to be a little more paranoid, so...
  16. @Watchcry That would be awesome, but probably too spoilery or time consuming, so he might decline. Regardless, ask if you can. Have a great time when you meet him and share how it went
  17. It's not a bad cover, however if I knew nothing I would have expected the book to be about the woman on the cover seeking vengeance, which could make for a pretty cool story, but is far from the actual novel.
  18. Or the author is a man, who assumes the only readers will be women who: Yes, the whole only-women-write is post Recreance, hence the Sunmaker fits the timeline since he is the one who challenged and demolished the ardentia during the Hierocracy, so I do not expect any KR to be the author since there were no KR anymore when writing became a female art and the implication here is that women will be the ones who read the journal. I doubt Jasnah would write others claim she's a heretic, when she is indeed one openly. Epigraphs imply the author doesn't view themself as one. I can't really argue in favor of finding the book in Urithiru based on much, I expect Shallan to discover something otherwise we wouldn't have been reminded she's searching and in-world OB is one candidate.
  19. That's unfortunate. I hope OP will provide a new link once s/he is back in the forum.
  20. It could also mean the question will never have definitive answer.
  21. The link doesn't work, but I found two similar quizzes when googling the title - this and this. I am unsure if either of those is the one OP intended for the thread though. Edit: Both gave me TW as a result
  22. Bribing to get untrained boys to your squad so you can keep them safe is also easy. Who besides Kaladin did it? A big part of the Adolin the ED theory is based on a few additional things: He has confirmed dead ED Blade He has refused to name it, which is highly unusual He talks to it as if it's a person It is very difficult, but possible to revive a Blade (though unconfirmed if one can revive a Blade s/he didn't have a Nahel bond with) So the main theory is not that he'll attract a spren, but rather revive his Blade, in a way remember its name. Adolin's actions are consistent with what we know of ED so far. Both Lift and Adolin have trouble forming meaningful and deep relationships with their peers if you want to dive into exploring characters flaws and not solely virtues. You can't expect Adolin to act as a full ED before even one Ideal, otherwise there would have been no progress for surgebinders. edit: missed a word
  23. I accept your correction, however not all protecting attracts honorspren, otherwise they would have been known to fly around bodyguards and the like. I like your idea in general that there could be a more fitting name for Syl's kind, I just remain of the opinion protectingspren is unsuitable. Perhaps I worded it poorly, I didn't mean you limited Cryptics to visual arts, but to arts in general. I do not expect all LW to have been artists in the usual sense of the word. A lot of them, sure, however not all because it's not the art itself that attracted Pattern, but how and why it was done. From WoR: Many, but not only those who pursue arts. Everybody has different degrees of self-awareness, that is true. However, I was going for some next level self-awareness that the average person (even if an artist) doesn't have based on this quote from WoR: You could argue it was just this one individual that was particularly unself-aware, but that's not not how I interpret it. I have one additional reason to call them that, it's a minor thing, but I'm reluctant to share it before the boards merge, because I don't remember if spoiler tags were acceptable or I should avoid even that, so I don't want the wrath of any moderator on me. I don't know why Brandon went for Inkspren since they aren't attracted to ink... Doesn't that last quote hint this trait is unrelated to Honor (if it was, shouldn't it be worded 'a thing from Honor'?), hence it's not because of him that inkspren seek to put humans in predictable routs? It could be of Cultivation since plants for example are very predictable in how they grow and what you can expect. After all radiantspren are a combination of both. Thanks!
  24. Which technically means being around Shallan all the time is not a requirement, though Pattern obviously can't stay away from her indefinitely. But that's beside the point, really.
  25. He wouldn't need to be around either one after the illusion is created it would stick to him and feed on the light independently, technically speaking, but neither can create such masterful believable illusions at the moment. Though it can still be used for escape in the dark. He could just stay somewhere hidden after that. He could be transported via the oathgate (especially if in the mean time another one is opened). The details aren't important really. My main point is the majority of the Urithiru Radiants would be on Adolin's side, which should make Dalinar reluctant to punish him as severely as some suggest. Unless one believes Shallan would turn on Adolin.
