  1. There’s always another secret charity foundation...
  2. So, I wasn't going to join this game, but I decided to pop in and check it out because I saw it was an anonymous game and because Wilson was one of the GMs and I was curious what she had cooked up for the AG and then I saw this little line: Storm it all, I'm in. EDIT: Ugh, I better not. I’d like to, but I keep remembering more and more commitments I’ve already made to my schedule and I just really don’t think I’ll be up for a game right now, especially not one as involved as this one seems like it will be. If you’re doing a spec doc I’ll take a link to that though.
  3. Sigzil is a red agent! 2 more guesses
  4. Oh I see. I like it. How would we handle it if an event card is drawn, since those almost invariably help the investigators?
  5. The game only lasts 3 rounds and (barring 1 or 2 specific event cards) the Oracle only gets to change one clue each for rounds 2 and 3. This means that most of the clues remain unchanged throughout the whole game, so that wouldn’t really be an issue.
  6. Day 0 will start Sunday evening and go through Monday evening, so you should be fine. Even if you get selected to be the Assassin, you can hurry and PM your method/evidence choices Sunday evening or your co-conspirator(s) can pick them for you.
  7. Agreed. I wasn't quite sure how it would play out- whether it would be too easy for 17 investigators to narrow down and figure out who the Assassin was, or whether it would be too easy for the Assassin to hide amongst so many players. But I think this game demonstrated pretty clearly that it was the former. You got caught on the second guess, but even if you hadn't, a coordinated effort by the investigators could have led them to just guess all the likely possibilities and find you through process of elimination. I have several ideas in mind for adjusting the balance in favor of the Assassin (or adjusting it the other way). Increasing the number of cards each player gets is one of them. We're somewhat limited by the number of method cards we can do- if we assign 5 method cards per player then that puts a hard cap on us at 21 players because then we would run out of method cards. There are twice as many evidence cards, however, so we could easily do 5 or 6 or more evidence cards per player. We could increase the number of co-conspirators, but that only helps so much. The vast majority of players would still be investigators and they could still brute-force the solution. We could make it easier to identify the witness (by giving the conspirators more guesses, or by adding more witnesses), but that seems like it would be the least fun solution. It wouldn't fix the underlying problem- that of it being too easy to find the murderer. Lastly, for large groups we could split and run two games simultaneously, each with around 8-12 players. That would keep it within the ranges that the game was originally balanced for. For game #2, I think we'll definitely change the shardworld Location tile, and then either assign more cards to players or split the game in half, depending on the number of people that sign up. If we get more opportunities to run this game on a semi-regular basis in the future we can begin experimenting with different things and even create new roles/events that can tip the balance one way or the other (for example, one idea I had was allowing the conspirators to plant a false trail by secretly choosing the clue for 1 of the tiles and the Oracle would not be allowed to change or replace that tile). FYI: Shadesmar is another name for the cognitive realm. They mean the same thing. These tiles are more or less unchanged from the base game. I have learned that the options (or lack thereof) on each tile are not-coincidental. It can make for some hard choices as the Oracle when none of the results really fit the scene of the crime, but you still have to pick one of them, and sometimes that can lead the investigation astray. That's just part of the fun. For example, on the "Murderer's Personality" tile, I would have preferred to pick something like "uncaring" or "devious," but those weren't options, so I had to pick something that didn't fit as well. As I said above, but you ninja'd me before I posted this! I'm not following you. Can you expound on this please?

  9. Hey everyone, as I said in the other thread, because the first game of Deception went so quickly, @Alvron has given us permission to do an immediate rerun. So who is interested? I'm going to go ahead and tag everyone who participated in the last game, including those who signed up as pinch hitters. If there are any spectators or new players who want to join in, feel free! Signups won't be open for very long- only about 2 days, so decide quickly! (EDIT: If you played in the last game and want to join this one, please post in this thread and say so, even if you said so in the other thread. I would hate to miss someone who wanted to play again) Quick Links: Deception in the Cosmere rules doc Game #1 Main Thread Day 0 Day 1 Epilogue Spreadsheet Conspirator doc
  10. Epilogue John 'Not-A-Murderer-At-All' Smith cried out as the axe fell, burying itself deep into his shoulder. He fell to the ground, screaming and writhing. The wound was a mortal one, but it wasn't immediately fatal. Selksi tried to wrench the axe free to finish his second victim off, but it was stuck and wouldn't pull free. Selksi heard running footsteps behind him as he finally wrenched the axe free. He spun around just in time to catch a glimpse of someone swinging a knife at him. The two of them crashed into each other and Selksi felt something thump against his chest, but the pain was minimal. They rolled across the street a few times before Selksi was able to kick the other man off of him. He snatched up his axe and prepared to swing, but he heard shouts and more footsteps coming closer, drawn by John Smith's cries of pain, so he turned and fled into the darkness instead. Moments later the street was filled with people, most surrounding John Smith and trying desparately to treat his injury, but a few stopped to check on Wirito and help him to his feet. He had twisted his ankle in his brief tussle with Selksi, but it wasn't too bad. "What happened?" someone asked. "I caught Selksi just in time to see him attack John and I tackled him, but he fought his way free and ran off." Wirito said. "Damnation, he got away again!" "Not quite," Wirito said slyly. He pulled a strange metal device out of his backpack and began adjusting a few dials and knobs set into the side of it. He pressed a button and a flat panel on the device flashed, then resolved into a hazy image. It looked vaguely like a map, and there was a brightly glowing dot slowly moving across it's surface. ***** Selksi slipped into the safehouse and closed the door behind him. "Well?" Tezed asked, getting up out of his chair. "What happened?" "I killed John," Selksi said. "Or at least, he won't survive for long. I'm pretty sure he was the one we saw when we set the booby trap. The other investigators nearly caught me, but I gave them the slip and made my way back here. Nobody followed me." Tezed sighed, relaxing. "So we're good then. We just have to slip through the nearest perpendicularity and... Hey, you're bleeding!" Selksi looked down at his chest where Tezed was pointing. Indeed there was a small trickle of blood staining his shirt, and a small glint of something metallic protruding slightly. "Hmm? Oh, that's nothing. I can barely even feel it. Come on, let's grab our stuff and get outta here." "Barely even- Man there's something sticking out of your chest, come here." Selksi tried to resist, but Tezed was quicker, grabbing Selksi and pulling something out of his chest. He held it up. In the dim light they could make out what seemed to be a large nail. Or perhaps, a small spike. "What the-?" They were interrupted as the door burst in, investigators flooding into the room. Leading the charge was a crazy woman with a large pig with bloodthirsty eyes. Selksi and Tezed never stood a chance. The End! Congratulations to the investigators! In case it wasn't clear from the write ups, here was the role distribution: Metaspren (Selksi) - Assassin Randuir (Tezed) - Co-conspirator Wiritospren - Witness All the rest of the players were investigators. I wasn't sure how balanced the game would be with this many people so I just did one of each role to see how it would play out. I think next time we might do something to give the Assassin a bit of an edge. In fact, I'm thinking that we should change the Location #4 tile (the one with the various shardworlds) to something that isn't so cosmere specific. I think it makes it too hard for the Assassin to pick clues when the majority of them can be easily identified by which planet they're from. Thoughts? Any other suggestions? Anyway, I'll go ahead and start a new thread for the game #2, so we can leave this one for anyone who wants to discuss this game. Oh, that reminds me, here is a link to the Conspirator's doc. Thanks everyone!
  11. Okay Red Team, your second clue is: Sadeas 2 @Scion of the Mists @Jondesu @luckat @Rhapsody @recneps
  12. Did you just apologize for winning the game *(if the witness survives)? Also, quick PSA everyone: Our illustrious IM @Alvron has given us permission to rerun this game immediately. So as soon as this game wraps up we’ll have a brief intermission period where people can drop out or jump in if they want, and then we’ll start game#2. More details to follow.
  13. When you're setting the countdown timer, right above where you type in the stop time you can select the date you want it to end on. EDIT: Also, don't forget to tag your teammates! @Rebecca @Kidpen @Snipexe @Cadmium Compounder @I am a STICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Yes. Day 1.5 - Sudden Death Oyh paced back and forth, rereading his copy of the proclamation announcement card for the hundredth time. He didn't know why, he had already gleaned as much information from the Oracle's mad scribblings as he could hours ago, and so he had sent Veh out to do a little investigating. All he could do now was wait until- Veh slid into the room and began moving in circles around Oyh, his form rapidly pulsing and shifting in excitement. "You were right!" The spren buzzed loudly, attracting attention from those people nearby. "I found the mmmurder. In Elantris. A dead body, caught in a booby trap. And footsteps in the slime. Mmmm. Footsteps led here." "That's it!" Oyh said, remembering. He had seen someone with slime on their shoe. Who had it been... Oyh's gaze snapped up, looking around. "Selksi!" He shouted, and the hall grew quiet as people turned to listen to him. "Where is Selksi?" Everyone turned, searching for Selksi, but it quickly became obvious that he was no longer in the sparsely populated convention hall. He had managed to sneak out somehow. "Did anyone see where Selksi went?" Oyh called. ...TO BE CONTINUED... Congrats to @Elandera for correctly solving the crime! However, the Assassin and his accomplice have 1 last chance to escape getting caught. They get 24 hours and 1 chance to correctly guess who the witness is. If they guess correctly, then they can assassinate the Witness and escape scot free. @Metaspren: The clock is ticking!
  15. Right?? This decision is even harder than last round...
  16. The timer actually ended a while ago, but I’ve been too busy to comment on it. @Ashspren, you’re up!
  17. All clues are up to your interpretation. As Oracle I am not allowed to give you any more information about the clues. @Araris Valerian beat me to it. See his post above ^
  18. Day 1: Relic of the Future The hours passed slowly as everyone waited for the Oracle to return. A few people eyed each other with suspicion, a few were curious about the prospect of solving the mystery and finding the murderer, but as is the case with most Cons, the excitement was interspersed with long stretches of boredom. Finally, Eban Naworeh re-entered the convention hall carrying a small stack of papers. Now, in addition to his wild hair and disheveled robes, the Oracle's unkempt appearance was further heightened by ink stains on his fingers, sleeves, and his chin. "Storms man, what took you so long?" Someone said. "How many Séances did you have to hold to find out who the murderer is anyway?" "Hmm?" Eban said as he began handing one sheet of paper to each person. Each page was identical, and contained several paragraphs of prognostication written in a neat calligraphic script, along with a hand-drawn border of an intricate twisting pattern. "Oh, I don't know who did it, not yet anyway, but I did read a handful of clues in the auguries." "And that took you over 5 hours?" "Oh shades no! That only took about 15 minutes. I had to make all of these proclamation announcement cards by hand. It would have gone faster, but the photocopier broke so-" "The fotowhatnow?" "Photocopier. It's a relic of the future. Anyway it broke so I had to copy them all by hand and-" "A relic of... How can you have a 'relic' from anything other than the distant past!?" "Because I'm the Chief Oracle, of course! Who else would you trust to take care of relics from the future?" "I- Look, that doesn't matter, why in Braize did you spend 5 hours hand-writing all of these sheets when you could have just come and told us what you had discovered." Eban looked shocked. "Nights afire man! I'm the Chief. Oracle. You don't become Chief Oracle by shouting your proclamations on the street corner like some chouta vendor." He seemed to have forgotten that he had done just that thing earlier, and went on talking anyway. "You have to have a certain professionalism mixed with a little added flair if you want to get and hold a prestigious position like mine for over 8 decades. Hence, the proclamation announcement cards!" He gestured emphatically with the remaining pages. "You're a loon, you know that?" "Indeed," Eban said solemnly. "That's one of the the job requirements as well." The game is in full swing now! The Oracle clues are listed below, so start discussing away and players are now allowed to Attempt to solve the crime at any time (remember to @ mention me or the Attempt won't count). Also remember that everyone must make at least 1 post this cycle, or else be dropped from the game and replaced by one of our awesome Pinch Hitters. Good Luck everyone! 19. I got delayed a little bit tonight. Working on the writeup and tiles for Day 1 now.
  20. TenSoon. That way I could become ANY of the characters I wanted to (provided somebody murdered them and gave me their bones first) J/K. If you want a serious answer... that's tough. Kaladin or Szeth would be cool because flying, but they both bring a bunch of emotional baggage that I don't want any part of. In the end I think I'd probably pick Susebron (as of the end of Warbreaker), just to experience life with all of that Breath and to have fun experimenting with Awakening. And Siri seems like the kind of girl I wouldn't mind spending time with.
  21. All role PMs should have been sent out by now. If you have not received a role PM from me or if you have any questions about your role or the game, please shoot me a PM. Also, since sign-ups have opened up several people have changed their username for National Spren Week (J/K I don't know why everyone is changing their name to "<fill in the blank>-spren"). I'm going through and updating Players' names in the spreadsheet and in the first post of this thread right now. I can't edit the player list in the sign-up thread because the moderators have already locked it, but that list does have links to the post where each player signed up, so you should be able to figure out who is who pretty easily. Now that the game has begun, I'd like to remind everyone to please do NOT change your username until the game is finished. Or if you do, please at least make a public service announcement so that it's clear to everyone who you are. Thanks!
  22. Day 0 - Investicon Eban Naworeh ran down the street, his wild hair and long robes trailing behind him as he frantically checked the addresses of buildings. No... No... Not that one... No, that's the bakery... No... AHA! Eban ran into the arched entryway to the building. Above the arch hung a large banner that proclaimed "WELCOME TO INVESTICON." Investicon was the largest, longest running annual convention held specifically for all things investigation related. All the best private eyes, police investigators, spies, intelligence agents, and detectives from all over the Cosmere flocked to Investicon every year. Eban burst into the convention hall, and drew up short. About 2 dozen people stood inside the large hall, most of them huddled around the table that held complimentary punch and cookies. "This is it?" Eban said. "If by 'it' you mean 'Investicon' then, yes!" a friendly volunteer wearing an "Investicon Staff" T-shirt said. "We've got a great turnout this year, up 25% from last year!" Eban ignored her and shouted, "There's been a murder!" Nineteen heads perked up and swiveled to look at him, and someone said, "Um... who are you?" "I'm Silverlight's Chief Oracle. I had a vision!" As realization set in, people started bombarding him with questions. "Where?" "Er... I don't know." Eban said. "Who was killed?" "I... don't know that either." "When did it happen?" "Yeah... I'm not really sure." "Do you know how the murderer did it?" "Uh... nope." "Well, what do you know old man?" Eban straighten up and declared triumphantly, "The assassin is here, in this room!" Nineteen pairs of eyes widened in shock and looked around suspiciously at one another, then turned back to Eban expectantly. After a few moments of silence, someone spoke. "Well? Which one of us is the assassin?" "I... have no idea." Eban said, wilting, but then abruptly perked up again. "But I can find out! I'll go do some divinationy type stuff, maybe hold a Séance or two, spend some time meditating... Wait here!" With that, Eban turned and dashed out of the room. Welcome to QF33, our first attempt at Deception, Murder in the Cosmere! The game has officially begun, but right now we're still in cycle 0. I will be sending out everybody's role in the next couple of hours, and the Assassin will have roughly 24 hours from this post to select their Method of Murder and Piece of Key Evidence. Once they have done that, I can set the starting tiles set and ready. Right now the player list has been set and everyone has been randomly assigned their Methods and Evidences. The starting tiles have not been chosen yet, so you can disregard those for now. You can view all of this in the game's spreadsheet, or click on the Spoiler tag below: In the meantime, free to start RPing (bonus points if you incorporate your Methods and Evidences into your RP) and/or start discussing general strategies.
