  1. Herwynbe, for his part, looks less distraught at the news of the poison than he does at the sight of Cessie fraternizing with the obviously disreputable Shiv. He keeps his mouth shut though.

  3. It would be best if you did not disclose your target to the public, I think. We would not want your plans disrupted by an over-zealous lurcher, or, even worse, by the inquisitor.

If the same ratio holds true in this game, then the inquisitor should have roughly 7 powers. Indeed, in the sake of balance within the game, he likely has less than that, I think." Edit: Also, what is to stop the inquisitor from sending similar, albeit false, messages around to players inboxes? Silence on the part of the seekers would be best, I think.
  5. That's better, though you probably should turn the "no vote" option on the second list into a "none of the above" option as well, in case someone does want to vote for someone on list #1 I also like the 36 hours with option for extension.
  6. Hey, what? Did someone say my name? Here is my take on the MAG, though to be fair, it won't be that much different from what Claincy had to say. TL;DR version: I love it. Longer version: I played a little bit of D&D back in the day, and played quite a LOT of Star Wars RPG back when it was owned by West End Games, as well as dabbling in other RPGs here and there. That being said, the MAG is by far, hands down, my favorite (granted, I am a little biased, but if there is anything that matches my love for all things Sanderson, it's my love for all things Star Wars). It has it's flaws, to be sure (parts of the rules are vague or don't feel balanced), but the things it does well makes up for it. What does it do well? First off, it's a masterful adaptation of Mistborn into a game format. Second, as Claincy said, it does a wonderful job at creating an environment where the narrator and the players can create a story. I should have mentioned that earlier, but that is my favorite part about RPGs, creating stories. I'm not an author, and probably never will be, but I do have that creative part of my brain that churns out stories and yearns to share them with the world. Playing RPGs is how I do that. The "Futile Efforts" story that Claincy linked to above is the perfect example. If you're new to RPGs and specifically to being the Narrator (MAG term for Game Master), fear not. Literally 1/3rd of the MAG is dedicated to helping the Narrator create stories with his players. The resources in that section of the book would be useful for any RPG setting. Third: Brandon is himself a gamer, and from what I understand he had a lot of input in the MAG as well. There are excerpts directly from him scattered throughout the book giving his thoughts, feelings, and suggestions on the game. That's just cool. Fourth: As a Mistborn Aficionado, the MAG is a great resource, and there are a lot of little Mistborn secrets tucked away inside its pages. A lot of what we know about the metals and how they work- especially ones that we haven't seen in the novels, such as Chromium and Nicrosil- come directly from the MAG. (I remember specifically having my mind blown when I read that by stealing a Feruchemist powers via hemallurgy that it would let you tap that feruchemist's metalminds. Crazy! I still have some very cool ideas that I want to try out in my games that hinge on that concept.) Fifth: Being a (very little) bit of an artist myself, I have to point out that the artwork throughout the book is incredible, as well. It's all done by Ben McSweeny, who is the artist for most of the interior art in WoK and the Rithmatist. He absolutely nailed all the characters (except for Elend- that's not how I picture him anyway) as well as the Koloss, Kandra, and mistwraiths. Wow, this is getting long... hmm... in response to a few of your specific concerns: Cost: like Claincy said, the PDF version is only $15, and well worth it. If you keep your eye out it occasionally goes on sale for as much as 50% off. New Players: the MAG is simple enough that the rules are easy to pick up, and if you have players who are unfamiliar with Mistborn, that's fine. Just create stories that introduce elements of Scadrial a little bit at a time. In other words, I probably wouldn't have any of the new players start out as a Mistborn, Feruchemist, or Kandra character. Instead, let them make a crew with a few Mistings in it and let them experience Scadrial a little at a time. It actually would be quite fun to see their faces as they discover Kandra for the first time. Or Hemalurgy. Or Inquisitors. etc. etc. Anyway, it's late and I'm rambling, but you get the point. I highly recommend it.
  7. As of right now, there seems to be an issue with it. It has the list broken up into two polls, and is requiring you to vote on BOTH lists. If we aren't able to fit everyone's name on one poll, perhaps we could include "Voting for someone on the other list" as an option on both lists?

Facing his fears, he moved through the crowd towards the center of the commotion, listening to the arguments being tossed about. Breaking through the crowd, he saw the corpse. "By the forgotten gods," he muttered, tasting bile in the back of his throat. Louder, he said, "Our esteemed leader has been slain, my companions. It would be in our best interest to abstain from voting to lynch anyone, for now, I think. Instead, perhaps we should properly, and respectfully, tend to Master Modeft's body?" Seeing the ashen face of Lady Cessie nearby, he touched her lightly on the arm, gently turning her away from the grizzly scene. OOC: Might I make a suggestion that whenever possible we try to keep our posts smaller in size? With 30 people, there is a LOT of reading to catch up on.
  9. Herwynbe, rushed into the room, looking flustered. Well, as flustered as a trained Terrisman ever looks. Spotting Cessie, he hurried over to her side. "Lady Cessie, it is rather disconcerting when you choose to wander off on your own like that, especially when we are among the..." He shot a disapproving glance at the man called Shiv, "... The common people. Your father would have wished that I remain at your side, I think."
  10. Actually, I thought about that and think it would be pretty balanced. Here is why: it would put a lot of pressure on the Feruchemist to have good timing. Early in the game, as he stores up votes, he's going to be pretty useless. Later in the game, when he taps all those votes he'll be awesome. The trick is, after 2 or 3 days of storing, people WILL start figuring out who the Keeper is and want to target him. The Keeper would have to pay attention and use his stored votes quickly before he gets found out and killed. Yes, he runs the risk of dying before using any stored votes, which would be sad for him, but if he can survive long enough for his super-vote? Awesome. Plus its simple, easy to understand, and you only have to remember the one power. No point in making the game more complicated than it has to be. Edit: we could still put a limit on the number of invested metalminds if we want, say 1-3, though really, I don't think it will be necessary. The nature of the game should be such that the Keeper will never want to store more than that for fear of dying and losing all the votes.

OOC: So by choosing a terrisman it got me thinking about how we could incorporate Feruchemy into the game, so I thought up the following role (not at all implying that *I* should be the one to get it, I just throw this out for everyone's consideration. We can include it in this game, or the next, or never. whatever ). Keeper of Terris The Keeper of Terris has discovered a strange new metal which can store the power of Democracy. Each cycle during the day phase, the Keeper can choose from one of three options: 1: Do not use his power. Nothing changes. 2: He can fill a metalmind by secretly notifying the GM. If he does, his vote does not count that round (though he may still go through all the motions of voting), and he receives 1 infused metalmind. There is no limit to the number of infused metalminds he can hold. He begins the game with 0 infused metalminds. 3: Before the vote has been finalized, he can tap any number of infused metalminds by notifying the GM. Each tapped metalmind increases the strength of his vote by 1. He can still only vote for 1 person. For example, Feruchemist Frank spends the first three days storing metalminds, receiving one infused metalmind each day, and his votes do not count those days. On the fourth day however, Frank votes for Hemalurgist Henry, and decides to tap all 3 of his infused metalminds, and so his vote counts as 4 votes against Henry. Could be fun. What do you think?
  12. If I might ask a question of you, Meta, when the inquisitor, unfortunately, converts a crew member to his way of thinking, will that crew member know who else has been converted as well? Will those converted, or perhaps I should say corrupted, individuals assist the inquisitor in its nightly ministrations? Or will, perhaps, the inquisitor carry on its dark work by itself?
  13. Oh interesting, I hadn't thought of Kelsier. My guesses were Preservation or Tindwyl. Kelsier makes a lot of sense, especially in light of the voice that Elend hears (thanks Digitalbusker for providing the quotes). Plus Brandon has said repeatedly that Kelsier just can't stop meddling, even when dead. Edit: Still, I think I'll ask Brandon about it the next chance I get.

My apologies if this has been asked or answered elsewhere, but I've been wondering this for a while: Who is the speaker of the voice that Sazed hears in his head during his fight with Marsh in chapter 58 of the Well of Ascension? Has anybody asked Brandon about this yet? Is it even a "voice" or is it just Sazed's muddled thoughts? UPDATE as of 3/29/2013: I just asked Brandon about this at a signing, and he gave an impish grin. I asked if it was Kelsier and he said that he is not going to answer at this time. Hmm....

So I have browsed stuff on 17th Shard from time to time, read a lot of the coppermind wiki, and even dug out little tidbit from Brandon here or there that has made it onto the site (to the best of my knowledge, I was the first one to ask Brandon if Hoid has any Breaths- which he does). But I have never actually created an account or posted anything directly onto the site. Until now. Count me in for round 2! I love me a good old game of Werewolves Mistborn Elimination. I'll be Hew Nabs, the town furniture maker. He specializes in carving elegant details into his work and selling it to those of the noble class who appreciate his craftsmanship. Edit: and though I just skimmed through it, I loved the first game. Congrats to the Spiked victors and my condolences to the deceived and slain villagers! I do have to say though, if you had a Kandra power, it would have to be some sort of thing where it could take over the corpse of someone recently killed (ie: that same night) and then write posts as if they were that person. It would be tricky to do- perhaps through PMs that the deceased player posts on behalf of the Kandra? I dunno, probably wouldn't work.
