  1. Uh... can I ask why you’re voting for the inactive player when we’re down to 5 players? This vote will pretty much decide the game, and removing an inactive player is not the way to win it...
  2. Note that they’re not true conversions in the normal SE sense- the converts don’t actually change factions (well, except for the Odiv). Instead it’s more like the Gyorn and Odiv have to tag all the other players before the game ends.
  3. Well, we’re down to: @Jondesu, who is neutral and I presume has already won (I got the hiccup disease) @Droughtbringer, who has gone inactive but we hope will return @Madagascar who I don’t trust @STINK who I want to trust but don’t and me, who I know is good. Welp, I guess all I can do is choose between Mad Mapadonet and the Trumpet guy *BWOOT* and hope that I guessed right and that someone will vote with me. Okay then. Madagascar, your bacon is cooked.
  4. Welcome! Your character makes me want to start you out with 2 dozen poison vials and watch the hilarity ensue.
  5. FAQ and Rule Clarifications: Sending Seons into Elantris: I originally posted in the rules that Seons cannot be used to create PMs with Elantrians, but in skimming through some of the original LG12 stuff I noticed that I allowed it in that game, so I decided to go ahead and allow it here. Seons may be used to create a PM with any player, including those in Elantris. Secrets of LG12: Speaking of skimming through stuff from LG12, I made the decision to delete the LG12 master spreadsheet, spec doc, eliminator doc, and Elantris doc (after making copies of all of them, of course). One of the most fun parts of this game is the mysteries to be discovered by exploring Elantris, so I didn't want anyone reading through any of the behind-the-scenes stuff and stumbling across potential "spoilers." I realize that some players may remember some of the secrets of Elantris from LG12, and if you read through the entire LG12 thread you might be able to glean some things, but oh well. The game is structured so that knowing these things won't give you any sort of advantage, the decision to delete the docs/sheets was made purely for preserving the fun and atmosphere of the game as much as possible. After this game is complete, I will restore the LG12 docs/sheets for anyone who might care enough to go look at them. Can the Gyorn tell the difference between a normal convert and a player with a Derethi pendant? At the start of the game a handful of players will start out as converts- some of them may be actual converts and some of them may have Shu-Dereth pendants. The Gyorn (and Odiv) will not be able to automatically distinguish which is which, but they will receive and updated list each cycle with all the current converts, so if they pay attention and they see converts disappearing and new converts added unexpectedly then they might be able to figure out where the pendants are. If a player with a Derethi pendant is made an Odiv and then passes on the pendant, will the Odiv still scan as a convert? They will not scan as as a convert but they will scan as belonging to the Shu-Dereth faction. Do Korathi and Jeskeri pendants block the priest's ability to determine whether a player is a convert? No, as a player's convert status is independent from their faction. Do the Seons of poisoned players become corrupted? No Will corrupted Seons be rejuvenated if Elantris is restored? Normally this would be a PAFO, but seeing as the events of LG12 are open information I don't mind answering this. Yes, if Elantris is restored then corrupted Seons of living Elantrians will be restored as well. Can the Gyorn and Odiv still PM each other if one of them is in Elantris? Yes. Being in Elantris does not block Gyorn/Odiv PMs, Lover PMs, or access to the Cultist doc. Becoming Hoed doesn't prevent them either, though any player who becomes Hoed must adhere to the Hoed posting rules even in PMs and docs. MINOR RULE ADJUSTMENT: In the list of actions, I originally had the "Gyorn: Swear an Odiv" action happening before items were gifted. I have swapped these. I realized I didn't want a player who was trying to give away a Shu-Dereth pendant to be made an Odiv against their will.

  7. Elantris was beautiful, once. Three years ago, I ran my second Sanderson Elimination game, LG12: Shadows of Elantris. The game had some fairly major flaws, but despite that it was very popular and everyone seemed to have a lot of fun. So I promised I would fix the rules and run it again sometime. Real life happened, and then now, three years later, I am excited to announce that I am finally able to make good on my promise. Elantris will finally rise again. Shadows of Elantris Redux Summary (for those of you who want an idea of what this game is like without wading through all the rules): In a nutshell, this game has three factions: Arelon (your typical village faction), the Jeskeri Mysteries Cult (your typical eliminator faction), and Shu-Dereth (composed of just the Gyorn and their Odiv, their goal is to "convert" all the remaining players). There are some fun roles and items and stuff- most of them the same as LG12, some of them new- but the most unique part of this game is Elantris. Players have a small chance of being taken by the Shaod and cast into Elantris. When this happens, they are removed from the main thread and inducted into the Elantris thread (PM Group), where they have the opportunity to explore the ruined city. While exploring they might encounter things that can harm them, things that can help them, or they might just discover the secrets needed to restore Elantris! Link to the Rules (I decided to just keep the rules in a google doc because it's easier to reference and navigate than wading through a bunch of Spoiler boxes trying to find the one rule you're looking for) Setting: For Roleplaying purposes (and I strongly encourage RP!) the entirety of the game will be held inside the King's Palace, centered on the King's court, with the exception of those players who are taken by the Shaod and cast into Elantris. At the beginning of the game, all the players are gathered in the Court to hear a grand announcement to be made by Patriarch Seinalan. @Fifth Scholar and @Elbereth will be helping me co-GM this game, and @Orlok Tsubodai is our impartial mod. Sign ups are officially open, and will close on Monday, 4/9 at 7:00pm MDT (rollovers will happen at approximately the same time of day). Quicklinks
  8. I agree. And I would still add @STINK and @Madagascar to that list. Both of you have posted but haven’t voted or really discussed anyone. Come on everyone, this is the part of the game where it’s easiest to stay active, because you don’t have pages and pages of posts to catch up on every time you check the thread and there are only a half dozen people you have to analyze. Win or lose, let’s finish this game swinging, yeah? I realize my logic is faulty. If I had perfect logic backing up my suspicion for someone then I would be voting for that person. But I don’t, so I’m doing the best with what I’ve got. *shrug* For the sake of discussion, can I ask why exactly you’re so suspicious of Madagascar? You say you don’t have any reasons NOT to vote for her, but what reasons do you have TO vote for her?
  9. I don’t trust Madagascar. I don’t really trust anyone other than myself. But there’s nobody I strongly suspect, either, so I have to rely on my logic to try as best as I can to deduce how roles work and how people would be inclined to use them. Hence why I’m voting for you, as I stated above. EDIT: Also, Madagascar is female, not male.
  10. Which is kind of funny because Devotary is the one I trust the least out of the self-proclaimed scholars. I was about to vote for Devotary, but it occurs to me that there is another way to test scholar claims. @STINK you should use your politician power on Devotary (or one of the other scholars you suspect). If the vote manipulation works then we know that they’re lying about their role. If it doesn’t then we know that they’re a scholar, though that doesn’t necessarily say anything about their alignment. Speaking of which, it occurs to me that someone was converted. And if I was going to convert someone then I would convert someone that everybody trusted. So in other words, Drought or Steel. Seeing as how Drought has barely been active this game, Steeldancer.
  11. Care to share your role with us now? You’re the only one who hasn’t claimed a role (or had their role revealed by someone else). It’s highly likely that @Eternum is going to scan you anyway, so might as well reveal it now.
  12. Less than 90 minutes left in the cycle, and everybody is withdrawing their vote. This is supposed to be the point in the cycle where we add votes, not remove them. @Devotary of Spontaneity: thank you for the player list / role summary. That’s very helpful. Can I ask you to expound upon the Faux GM role- you can end any round early?? Wow! Is that a once per game ability or can you do it more than once? Is faux GM the name of the ability? Anyway, seeing everybody’s role up there... doesn’t help me find any suspicions. It seems likely that someone is lying about their role (because none of them seem to have any conversion powers), but I have no clue who. It could be one of the proclaimed-scholars. Steeldancer and Droughtbringer both have things recommending them from past voting patterns, and I know I’m villager (yes I realize that none of you have any reason to believe my word, but it’s true and I know it is, so I have to act on that knowledge), which leaves coop, who I have already been wary of. So I guess if I had to guess, I think it likely that one of either coop or stink are eliminators, or maybe Madagascar. Or maybe Devotary. Or maybe any player other than me. I don’t know. Coop . Edit: ninja’d by Eternum. Interesting that we both settled on Coop...
  13. (Also on mobile, so you all can deal with the giant quote box. Pro tip: you can hit the little arrow button in the top left of the quote box to minimize it). Re: reconciling “my first sentence” with the rest of the post: as I said, I made that post very late at night, so cut me some slack. My point was don’t lynch me because Elenion screwed up my role in the write up, which is what everyone up to that point was doing. If you want to lynch me for other reasons, that’s fine. As for you, @STINK: I explained my position on you already. Statistically speaking, with 4+ scholars and at least 1 Village-politician in the game, the odds are that there is at least one eliminator-politician out there. It’s not guaranteed, but it is very good odds. The one logical bone in my body that cares about statistics thinks that it would be a good idea to lynch you, just on the chance that you are an eliminator. Every other bone in my body doesn’t want to lynch you because you’ve done nothing but help the Village all game (at least on the surface), which is why I haven’t cast a vote for you, so don’t get your panties in a twist. Anyway, I just woke up after 5 very restless hours of sleep and I’m obviously cranky so I’ll just stop here. The chouta cart is now closed because I’m grumpy. NO CHOUTA FOR YOU! NOT FOR ANY OF YOU! *tries to slam the door, but the cart doesn’t have a door, so instead he just stands around awkwardly looking grumpy*
  14. Well, other than that mix-up was the nudge that got the lynch train rolling in my direction. oh well. Seeing as how @Eternum already outed me, I’ll confirm, yes I am a scholar. I have always been a scholar, and have never been anything else. The vote-removal was a mistake on our esteemed GM’s part- my ability really did protect me from that. So don’t go suspecting me because of my role. If you want to suspect me because of my decisions and actions- well I can’t blame you for that. My reads have been off all game. Still, I’ll keep trying and if it ends up that I get lynched then at least then you will all know that I am a villager and haven’t been lying. Anyway, I can also sort of not really confirm Coop’s role. He confessed to me in a PM early in the game that he had a role that indicated that there were vote manipulators in the game. As soon as he said that I suspected that he was a scholar, since that was my role, too. This was before other people came out as Scholars in the thread. As for who I suspect... I’m not sure. Here are a few random character reads off the top of my head: @Coop772: I always felt that he confessed his role a little too easily to me, possibly fishing for trust, so I’ve never really trusted him. And this cycle he seemed too eager to switch his vote to me when the opportunity presented itself. But those are pretty flimsy reasons to lynch someone, so I won’t vote for him for the time being. @Eternum: probably Village, based on his role and actions, but not guaranteed. I can confirm that he got my role right at least when I haven’t revealed it to anyone before now, so I believe what he says. @STINK: probably Village, based on his comments throughout the entire game. He has always had sound advice for the Village and has promoted good level-headed strategies the entire game (did I really just say that about STINK? Yes I did. And it’s true). I probably trust STINK more than anyone else at this point in the game. HOWEVER, with all the Scholar roles in the game (at least 4, if everyone is telling the truth), it seems highly likely that the Escaped Inmates have a politician role. And Eternum just pegged STINK as a politician. So I might be willing to vote for STINK on that alone. Giving sound advice has always been one of the best elim strategies, precisely because it earns people’s trust. So maybe I shouldn’t be so trusting of STINK right now... I’m torn. For now I’m going to withhold my vote. It’s almost 1:00 in the morning here and I have to wake up in less than 6 hours. I have a busy day tomorrow, so I’ll try to check the thread but can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to post anything of significance until tomorrow evening. Oh, and buy chouta! Special soon to be lynched clearance sale! One clear chip a piece!
  15. Now I will forever not be able to imagine Shallan without a Southern accent. Thanks...?
  16. A little voice inside Nalter’s head whispers to him. Surprisingly (or perhaps not), the voice has a Herdazian accent. “You’ve tasted chouta, but you haven’t tasted bacon-chouta...” so, we’re about halfway through the cycle and it looks like nobody has cast a vote yet. I confess, I have no idea who to suspect right now and nobody jumps out to me as being particularly evil. I could possibly be persuaded to vote for someone if the reasoning was sound, but for now I’m going to vote for Ecthelion. @Ecthelion III still hasn’t shown up and posted yet, so with no other leads I would rather spend a turn lynching him and seeing what happens before I vote to lynch someone who is actively playing and participating.
  17. Yeah, that’s not unusual for Brandon. His standard practice is (as he puts it) to do a couple hours/days of research which will allow him to get to 80% proficiency in a particular topic. Then he writes the story as best as he can and then has an expert in the topic read what he wrote and offer suggestions and corrections. So it sounds to me like his fighter pilot request is in relation to Skyward. Even if it’s not specific to atmospheric flight/combat and Brandon just wants someone to give input on what it feels like to pilot a fighter plane/ship.
  18. Thank you for your responses. This one is a little frustrating though, because either (A) team skybreaker had a kill power that you chose not to tell us about when they fulfilled the win condition and left the game or (B) we potentially have a rogue kill role to deal with along with the eliminators’ kill and some sort of conversion power that we know are still in the game. Both options have very different ramifications. “Ah mate, you don’t need to play the game to buy chouta. I’m happy to sell chouta to anyone what’s payin’ for it, yes I am! One pork chouta, coming up!” “Great! 2 clear chips please. And can I interest ya in a second chouta for just 1 chip more? Special sale, today only.” Edit: All this RP makes me want to come up with a Chouta recipe in real life, just so I can have it for real. Shouldn’t be too hard. Meatballs and gravy wrapped in a pita or some flatbread. Yum!
  19. Nabbers' eyes widened as the town crier finished crying the events of the previous day. "Wow..." he muttered, then straightened up taller. "Welp, there's only one thing to do in this situation. Who wants some chouta? Special deal, today only! Buy one get one half-off!" (Seriously though, I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything that just happened and what it all means). Wow, they've only worked here one day and already they're making demands and threats? "Welp, here's the thing fellas... or is it ladies? I never did figure out how to tell porcine genders apart... Anyway, sales are down. I don't think we sold a single chouta yesterday. So, this means that we're going to have to downsize." Nabbers scratched his chin and studying both pigs with a scrutinizing gaze. "Plumpy- that's your name, right? Well, Plumpy, I'm afraid I have to let ya go. No hard feelings, and to ease the blow a little bit I've got a nice severance package prepared for you. If'n you'll just step through this door we'll get ya taken care of." Sometime later, Nabbers reemerged from the door, which happened to be the entrance to the butcher's shop- and began harking his wares again: "Bacon-Chouta! Come and get it! We've got Bacon-Chouta, Sausage-Chouta, Porkchop-Chouta, Ham-Chouta! Limited time only, come and get it before they're gone!" @Elenion You've listed both Proto-Windrunner and Proto-Bondsmith as having the same power. Was that intentional? Also, do did the skybreakers have a kill ability? Because the writeup seems to suggest that they killed Kynedath. Or was that just for flavor?
  20. Nabbers scratches his chin for a moment, then shrugs. “‘lright, you’ll do. You’re hired.” Nabbers turns to a large sack by his cart and starts pulling out a bunch of pillows what looks like a big brown and tan tarp. “Here, put this on, then go over to that street corner and dance around.” Five minutes later, a large figure that looks suspiciously like two pigs dressed up in a homemade costume that vaguely resembles a gigantic chouta waddles up to the street corner and begins flailing about wildly, while Nabbers happily calls out to the crowd, selling his chouta.
  21. Nabbers wheels his chouta cart up and parks it in his usual spot, whistling a jaunty tune all the while. He then pulls out a flat board with some writing on it and hangs it prominently on his cart next to the big banner that reads: “Chow down on some Chouta! $2.” The new sign reads: “Job opening. Inquire within.”
  22. @livinglegend did say that he erroneously thought that Drought was still in second place to be lynched. As it stands, that’s this only thing from his post that I believe. I don’t buy the rest of it. Apologies if you’re telling the truth, LL, but your post reeks of an eliminator who slipped up and is trying to save his skin. EDIT: ninja’d!
  23. Hey PM’d me, too, but I didn’t see it until it was too late. Plus, at the time I felt that the case against Drake was pretty weak, so I wouldn’t have switched votes anyway. Congrats on your 3,000th post! Have a celebratory Chouta! Two clear chips please. However, in this case I’m inclined to agree with @Jondesu: revealing your role in thread is rarely ever a good idea, especially this early in the game when the eliminators don’t know very much other than their own team’s roles. Even if it’s a useless role the eliminators now know they can ignore you and attack other players. At the very least, if you must post something then you can say “I have reason to believe that such and such role is in the game” or “someone claimed this role to me, but I’m not naming names.” That way it’s at least an IKYK with the eliminators instead of just handing them free info. Unless you’re blatantly lying about having that role to mess with the eliminators, in which case, bravo!
