  1. Note on PMs: Please include all three GMs ( @Herowannabe @Fifth Scholar @Elbereth ) and our IM ( @Orlok Tsubodai ) in any Seon PMs you create. Originally in the rules I had posted that you only needed to include 1 GM, but upon asking Orlok and both of my co-GMs said they want to be included in everything. Thanks!
  2. Wow, I thought I made that clear in the rules but somehow I missed it completely. I have updated the rules in the Shu-Dereth section to clarify: The Gyorn is not considered a convert, and may not be targeted with the convert action. If the Gyorn ever has a Shu-Dereth Pendant then they will count as a convert for as long as they possess it. If a Shu-Dereth pendant is used to target the Gyorn then it will not permanently make the Gyorn a convert like it would on anyone else. Shu-Dereth’s win condition is to convert all remaining players except the Gyorn.
  3. Actually, even if you are editing a spelling or grammar mistake, please note it in the little "reason for editing" box, so that we know that's why your post was edited. Thanks.
  4. The lovers have already been chosen. They were selected before the game began. Nothing about your plan breaks the rules of the game. Multiple pendants can be used on a single player, and if used on a convert the pendants are still used up as usual.
  5. Day 1: Aon Ten years ago, Elantris fell. The gods of the majestic city withered into wretched creatures, reviled and despised by all. The city, which had once been the center of science, learning, peace, prosperity, and Elantrian Magics, was turned into a prison, and the Elantrians who had survived the upheaval were locked inside and left to bemoan their fate. Over time the city, like its inhabitants, withered and rotted. Outside of Elantris, in the city of Kae, life had moved on. Merchants traded, pirates plundered, kings governed, priests taught, young couples fell in love, and… something darker was stirring. Seinalan knew this. As patriarch of the Korathi church he was kept well abreast of current events, and the reports he had been receiving lately had disturbed him. The Jeskeri Mystery cults- once a minor nuisance in faraway kingdoms- had spread and gained foothold here in Kae, complete with human sacrifices, pronounced curses, and all the other vulgar pagan rites. If Seinalan’s reports were accurate, and he had every reason to believe they were, the cults had even infested the nobility and the wealthy elite of Kae! Seinalan hadn’t had a choice- he had come to the city to call the people to action, to root out and eliminate any cultists among them. There was a knock at the door. “You may enter,” Seinalan called. He looked himself over in the mirror. He tucked a loose strand of his luxurious blonde hair back in place then flashed his winning smile. Perfect. The door opened to admit a few of his attendants. Seinalan asked, “Are the people ready to receive me.” When he got no reply, Seinalan turned. His “attendants” had barred the door and were now removing their white Korathi priest’s robes, revealing darker robes with blood red markings on them. Jeskeri Cultists! Seinalan screamed for help, but it was too late. Even if anyone could hear him it would take too long for them to break though the four inch reinforced oak doors that now sealed the entrance to his chamber. The nearest cultist seized Seinalan and brandished a wicked dagger.... A few minutes later, the palace guards finally broke the door open and Captain Edao rushed into the room, followed by his men. The room was empty, save for one figure. Patriarch Seinalan lay stretched out on the table. His Patriarch’s robes had been stripped off and he torso had been sliced open in twisted, intricate patterns. Edao scanned the room- the murderers couldn’t have gotten far. There, on the far side of the room, a tall armoire had been pushed askance. Edao rushed over to it and shoved it aside, then threw his shoulder against the wood panel of the wall behind it. The panel swung inward, revealing a narrow passage between the walls. Edao led his men in a rush through the passage, trampling bloodied robes that had been discarded by the murderers. A moment later they burst out into the Grand Hall, where dozens of people had been gathered to hear Patriarch Seinalan’s address. Edao scanned the surprised faces that turned to regard him. Any of them could be the murderers- obviously they had come this way with the intent of hiding in the crowd. “Seal the doors!” Captain Edao shouted. “Nobody is to enter or leave the palace! Patriarch Seinalan has been murdered!” In a side chamber, not far from the Grand Hall, a handful of people waited nervously. The door opened, and in strode a figure arrayed in a set of gleaming red Shu-Dereth priest’s armor, complete with the rarely worn helm. The faceguard of the helm masked the priest’s face and voice. The priest turned to address the people in the room. “It is true, Patriarch Seinalan was slain in his own chambers less than an hour ago. It is as I prophesied, is it not? Shu-Korath is weak, and Holy Jaddeth has sent this corruption to it’s heart, to destroy it from the inside out. Only Shu-Dereth is strong. Though we are few in numbers now, people will flock to us as they see that security and power can only be found by serving Lord Jaddeth, through his servant, Wyrn, Regent of All Creation. And in the coming days you, my followers, will find your faith rewarded. Praise Jaddeth!” “Praise Jaddeth!” The small group said in chorus. Day 1 begins! Patriarch Seinalan was killed by Jeskeri Cultists! It is up to you to find them and eliminate them! Convert Tally: 3 / 26 players are Shu-Dereth converts Player List:
  6. Player list in the second post of this thread should be updated with all the last minute sign-ups and corrections to names and stuff. Let me know if I got anything wrong.
  7. What @TheYoungPyromancer said. Alternatively, I can let you into the Spec doc if you want. Yes, this. And I'm here now! I got delayed a bit, but I'm working on getting roles figured out and sent out and the writeup done. Signups close in about 7 minutes, and the Day 1 writeup will be up in an hour or so. Sign-ups are officially closed. Stay tuned for Role PMs and the start of the game.
  8. Everyone who is playing please check the 2nd post of this thread and make sure I’ve got your name on the list. I’ve already been made aware of 2 people who have signed up that I missed. I think I forgot to click “save” when I edited their names in.
  9. I said “at least,” meaning that was the bare minimum!

    Sarene

Fantastic artwork, as always. You're one of my favorite artists here on the site. If I could be allowed to make one tiny little critique... Her face looks mannish. With the squared chin and prominent nose she looks kinda like a guy wearing a wig rather than a woman. The faces in the "Sarene Search" image you posted look more feminine to me, because those features are less pronounced (EDIT: The eye shape might have something to do with it, too). Other than that, I love it!
  11. No. The reason that the cycles are as long as they are (48 hours for days, 24 for nights) is to give everyone plenty of time to get on and contribute. Obviously you won't be able to be on ALL the time, but as long as you are able to check the thread and post at least once per cycle you should be alright.
  12. Not quite sure what you mean, but generally the start of the game will include the following, in roughly this order: Role/Faction PMs are sent out A new thread will be posted including "LG44: Cycle 1" in the title The thread will include a write-up that sets the stage for Roleplay A PM group will be started for any Elantrians in the game The game begins, and players will be able to start posting, sending in actions, and voting to lynch someone (we will be starting on a Day cycle) A Spec doc will be started for the Spectators I'm planning on creating a Pinch Hitter PM to act as a pseudo-spec doc, but one in which we can kick players out of once they step in to take someone's place (we wouldn't want them getting any special info from the PM group once they start playing). If that doesn't answer your question, just respond and let me know exactly what you're asking after.
  13. Apparently the new policy is to pin any sign-up threads, so there you go. Adding you to the list.
  14. That was a throwback to QF2: Crushthroat's Beginnings, in which my character was named Hreo. The setting was on Sel before the events of Elantris- we were all pirates on Dreok Crushthroat's crew (Hreo also had a few cameos in LG12, though most of those were in the Elantris PM so you'll have to wait until after this game is over if you want to read them. You might see him in this game, too). I don't know why the name stuck for as long as it did, but for a good while after that people called me Hreo. Nowadays most people call me Hero for short. *shrug* 'Tis the way of nicknames I suppose.
  15. Well, I might be a little biased since this I'm running this game and I want as many people to sign up for it as possible, but I think the best way is to dive right in and play. It can be a bit complicated, but the good part is that you'll be on a team so you can rely on other people a bit to help you figure things out (EDIT: Also, because it's on a forum you have a lot more time to sort things out and conspire with teammates and whatnot). It's basically the same as Mafia, but with an extra dose of Sanderson, Roleplay (if you want), and interesting (some people say complicated) roles and rules added into the mix. As I said in this post earlier in this thread, if you'd like to get a feel for the game I'd suggest reading through one of the previously run games. A good choice would be any of the AGs (Anniversary Games) or LG12 (this game is a rerun of LG12, but with the rules fixed up and tweaked a bit). Also, as @Droughtbringer said, check out The Rules and The Q&A. If you don't feel ready to sign up just yet, you could sign up as a pinch hitter, meaning that in a week or two if a player goes inactive or has to drop out of the game you step in and take over their role/faction/etc. Or, alternatively, you are welcome to watch and get a link to the spectator doc where you can discuss the game with other spectators and players who have died, but in my (admittedly biased) opinion if you have time to read the game and comment on it then you have time to play, too.
  16. About 36 hours left to sign up, in case anyone is still debating about whether or not to join.
  17. They can post only one of their five words.
  18. That’s too bad, I was really hoping you’d play Riingar again so that I could bring first mate Hreo back in the writeups. Oh well. Same quesion I’ve posed to the other spectators- any chance I could persuade you to step up as a pinch hitter after your finals are done instead of being a spectator?
  19. Elantris did get restored. The Elantrians had an uncanny stroke of luck and found all of the areas they needed within the first 5 or so cycles.
  20. Meaning that even in the eliminator doc (as that is the only doc that it would apply to) a Hoed-cultist would still be required to post using only the 5 words/smilies that she selected upon becoming Hoed. This very thing happened in LG12. That one is a PAFO.
  21. @Devotary of Spontaneity: @Fifth Scholar is right on all accounts, with a couple clarifications. I'm going to go ahead and list all the questions and answers so I can easily copy and paste them into the FAQ. Can the Gyorn tell the difference between a normal convert and a player with a Derethi pendant? At the start of the game a handful of players will start out as converts- some of them may be actual converts and some of them may have Shu-Dereth pendants. The Gyorn (and Odiv) will not be able to automatically distinguish which is which, but they will receive and updated list each cycle with all the current converts, so if they pay attention and they see converts disappearing and new converts added unexpectedly then they might be able to figure out where the pendants are. If a player with a Derethi pendant is made an Odiv and then passes on the pendant, will the Odiv still scan as a convert? They will not scan as as a convert but they will scan as belonging to the Shu-Dereth faction. Do Korathi and Jeskeri pendants block the priest's ability to determine whether a player is a convert? No, as a player's convert status is independent from their faction. Do the Seons of poisoned players become corrupted? No Will corrupted Seons be rejuvenated if Elantris is restored? Normally this would be a PAFO, but seeing as the events of LG12 are open information I don't mind answering this. Yes, if Elantris is restored then corrupted Seons of living Elantrians will be restored as well. Can the Gyorn and Odiv still PM each other if one of them is in Elantris? Yes. Being in Elantris does not block Gyorn/Odiv PMs, Lover PMs, or access to the Cultist doc. Becoming Hoed doesn't prevent them either, though any player who becomes Hoed must adhere to the Hoed posting rules even in PMs and docs. EDIT: Also, in the course of answering your questions, I decided to make the following tweak to the action order:
  22. @Orlok Tsubodai Is there a reason why this thread got pinned?
  23. Yes, something like that. I haven't figured out quite how I would translate the contest into the game. The premise of Ready Player One (not really spoiling anything, since all of this is revealed in the opening 5 minutes of the book/movie) is that you have this thing called the OASIS: which is basically World of Warcraft + the Internet + Virtually Reality all in one and then given a massive shot of steroids. Everybody in the world pretty much spends all of their time in the OASIS- for work, play, etc. The creator of the OASIS, a guy named Jim Halliday, dies without any heir to his 1/2 trillion dollar fortune. Upon his death a video that Halliday created pops up on everybody's OASIS consoles, informing the whole world that he has hidden an Easter Egg somewhere inside the OASIS, and the first person to find it will inherit his entire fortune as well as gain a controlling share in Halliday's company and full control over the OASIS. Thus begins the hunt for Halliday's Easter Egg.
