Long Game 44: Shadows of Elantris Redux

Gladly! Thank you! Although in our hands it's sure to quickly turn from this: into this: @Tineye Navigator and @RippleGylf I've added you both to the list of spectators, but if you think you might be available in a few weeks then I would invite you to consider being a pinch hitter instead.- 1185 replies

So I saw Ready Player One the other day (I highly recommend both the movie-on Imax and/or 3D- and the book), and now I'm thinking it would make for a fun setting for a SE game. I'm still brainstorming ideas, but right now I'm thinking of incorporating some or all of the following components: The contest/hunt for the egg, of course. I would have to structure it in such a way that it wouldn't be possible to just fly though the clues/puzzles and win on day 1 or 2. I'd probably do 1 puzzle for each key, and then have each key open one gate, but the gates only become available on certain cycles. Instead of an overt 80's / video game theme to the puzzles and challenges, I would tweak it and make it Sanderson/Cosmere themed. 2 factions, with the village being 'Gunters and the Eliminators being Sixers Anonymous, but not in the normal Anonymous Game sense. Players would sign up as themselves, but secretly PM their Avatar's name and description to the GM. The scoreboard would only show the Avatars' names, and there would not be any public connection between Avatars and Players. Players would vote to lynch based on Avatar names, not knowing which player was associated with it. Wait, no, that wouldn't work because everyone would just lynch the Sixer Avatars. Hmm... Maybe let the Sixers come up with normal avatar names rather than numbers, or maybe have people vote for players. Yeah, voting for players makes more sense. (Like I said, still brainstorming) I'd probably run it as a QF, seeing as I'm at the top of the QF GM list right now and I'm not happy with my current QF game I have there- It's too complicated. The winner would be the player who found the Egg first, but there would also be faction win-conditions, too (eliminate the other team and/or beat them to the egg). Edit: I might incorporate a basic sort of money system, and let people bid on and buy rare artifacts that do things in the game. I would need permission from one of the contest winners since it technically wouldn't be a Sanderson-themed game, though it sort of would be with the Cosmere-themed challenges. But before I get to any of that, would people be interested in playing such a game?

Mid-Range Game 28: Knives in the Dark

I missed that little tidbit. If i had noticed it maybe I would have been a little more suspicious of @Madagascar. Probably not though, With a role name like "psychiatrist" I probably would have trusted her more. -

You get 7 hours of sleep a night? Lucky... Well no worries, I won't pester you anymore. I definitely do not want a repeat of Orlok's situation in AG3. You've been added to the spectator list.- 1185 replies

I’d be tempted to go with “Wasing not of wasing is,” though it would make zero sense to anyone who wasn’t a Sanderson fan

The way you phrased that sounds less like you’re signing up to play and more like you’re trying to get your band back together for a reunion tour. [announcer guy voice] Sheon Idris and the Adonalsiums are back together at last! See them live at the King’s Palace this Monday at 7pm. Hurry, tickets are sure to sell out fast!” [/announcer guy voice] Same question I posed to Jondesu: any chance I could persuade you to possibly be a pinch hitter instead of a spectator? There’s a countdown timer in the first post of the thread that also has the start time posted in a variety of time zones.- 1185 replies

Great game all, and thanks to @Elenion for GMing it! I think I pretty much win honorary eliminator this game. I don't think I cast a single vote for an eliminator until the last cycle when it was too late to matter. Oh well. -

Do you mean like this? They're spoiler tags. Sometimes people put large pictures or long bits of text in them to keep their posts a little neater (like I did), though mostly they're for hiding spoilers. Just click on them to open them up. Rogue One Spoilers Or do you mean the animated gifs I put inside them? There were 3 gifs: 2 of K-2S0 inside the spoiler tags and 1 of Captain Picard outside. Sweet, welcome aboard!- 1185 replies

Mid-Range Game 28: Knives in the Dark

“What? No!” *glances about nervously* “That wasn’t Plumpy’s tail, that was.... uh... well yeah, it was Plumpy’s tail. She... uh... got it surgically removed before heading on vacation. All the cool pigs are going tailless these days. Ain’t that right Rumpy?” *A muffled “oink” emanates from the mound of chouta-colored canvas.* ”There ya go, see? Nothing to be worried about. Here, why don’t you have another bacon chouta. On the house.” -

Plumpy? I did let her go. Days ago. Sales were down, times were rough, I had to let her go. Hence her trip to the Reshi Aisles, which are totally real and not something I made up to divert you. Or do you mean Rumpy? He's right over there. *Nabbers point at a rather sad looking pile of cloth that kinda resembles a pig in an oversized chouta costume.* He's still on the clock though so I'll have to kindly ask you to refrain from distracting him from doing his job. His shift ends in a few hours, right after the cycle ends. -

Well... all I'm going to say is that LG12 was a role-madness game, where everybody started with some sort of role or power or something. Would you like to know the probability that this game will be the same...? ooooooooooooooooh! Somebody better watch their back- 1185 replies

Typically Pinch Hitters just take over the character of the person that they replaced, but I don't see any reason why it HAS to be that way. You'd have the same role and stuff, but you could swap their character out for your own.- 1185 replies

Mid-Range Game 28: Knives in the Dark
Herowannabe replied to Elenion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
At this point I'm pretty sure that Madagascar and STINK are both evil, and they've convinced Jondesu (who is neutral) to side with them. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. The fact that they're voting for you and not me is HIGHLY suspicious. With my track record this game and the way I've been playing, if I were another player who was villager I'd probably be voting for me right now. -

Herowannabe replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well if you've read the rules then you'll see Sanderson Elimination is very similar to mafia/werewolves (it's based on those types of games, obviously), though we usually tend to make the rules a little more complicated interesting and give it a Sanderson flavor. This particular game is unique because of the exploring Elantris aspect, and most games don't have more than 2 factions. Definitely read the first several posts in the SE General Rules & Etiquette thread if you haven't already, and if you have time I recommend skimming through one or two previously run games. Any of the Anniversary Games (AG's) are a good baseline SE format to read, or the original version of this game, LG12, wouldn't be a bad choice to read to get a good feel for how this game will run.- 1185 replies

Thanks to everyone signing up! I usually like to give a Like to everybody who signs up for my games, but I'm out of likes for the day so I'll have to come back and get them tomorrow. Like @Elbereth said, it's really up to you. You'll see some people who like to do extensive roleplaying in every post, some people who like to just sign up using their own user name and don't RP at all, and everything in between. Pick the level of RP you're happy with and run with it. Also it looks like this is your first Sanderson Elimination game- Welcome! And don't worry, if when someone stabs you in the back it means they like you. Welcome back Honey Badger! I'll just go ahead and point out that I'm not making any effort to prevent codes, and different formats are allowed, so you could pick any phrase you want and just use bold or italics to do morse code. In LG12 one player even figured out a 5-word phrase that used every letter of the alphabet so that he could just post the phrase over and over and highlight the letters he wanted to use to say whatever he needed to say (he never got made Hoed though). So if you do become Hoed, my advice is to have fun with it. Like so. Instead of taking a link to the spec doc, could you be persuaded to maybe step in as a pinch hitter in a few weeks, if/when one is needed? Thanks, and best of luck to you as well!- 1185 replies

How can Chouta be a popular bargaining chip when there is only one person here who actually has any Chouta to offer, hmmmmmmm? You realize that anyone else who is offering you Chouta is a liar and making false promises. Unless they're promising to kill me and steal my Chouta and give it to you, in which case... yeah, that's a good point. On the plus side, all of her "cats" were actually empty whiskey bottles, so I'm pretty sure they couldn't feel anything. I bet they really helped feed the flames though. Who is Professor Pinkwaffle? Oh, you mean Plumpy? The one I...? Uh... yeah, she took her severance package and went on Holiday... to.... uh.... the Reshi Aisles. Great place for pigs. It's like the Reshi Isles, except instead getting to cliff jump off of giant walking greatshell-islands, you get to check out all the different types of pickles they have on Aisle 17. You'd be surprised how many types of pickles there are. Like, heaps of them. Pigs like pickles, right? Of course they do. Who doesn't like pickles? Especially on Chouta. Mmm... chouta... Anyway, have I talked long enough that we've all forgotten what we were talking about? No? Storm it all.
