Hi! Welcome to the 17th Shard! How is Elantris so far? I'd be wary of wandering about in the Cosmere Theories or Elantris boards while you're reading it.

I am not aphantasic, I'm fairly sure. But I also don't describe my characters in my works, probably because I tend to skip over the descriptions and even the actions, usually, in books. I skim descriptive paragraphs, and if there's a fight scene, I usually skim the non-dialogue parts of that too, only going back if I get confused by something. (emphasis mine)This is a good way to describe it for me, I think. I can make perfectly detailed mental images. Just most of the time, I don't bother. Sometimes my attention will be caught by some cool thing in real life, and I'll remember it and put an image of it in this mental room of this sort of thing. But otherwise I basically don't notice people's dress or attire, even in real life. When I think of a person I know well, I don't visualize them. I just think of their personality. So... I'm not the same. But I do share a few things in common.

Very nice. I tend to get nearer that speed when reading non-Sanderson books, but when I'm reading Sanderson (particularly Stormlight), I slow down to try to catch interesting things for theorycrafting and such.

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
Elbereth replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Glad that's cleared up. I can only think of one reason if Alfa's loyal, and that's that someone discovered that he was the last loyal Hemalurgist (that they knew of, at least), and wanted to convert the HI. I'm not sure how plausible this is, though.EDIT: Ninja'd by Alvron. Ignore this last bit, then.- 1686 replies

Well, that seems a bit pointless, no offense. I mean, you can only read one at a time, and unless your library's checkout time is super long, you can't possibly manage to read 50 in a month during work/school time. Not that I haven't come away from a library with 20 books, but mine has a 3 week turnover and I usually don't renew. Usually I get into a pattern of going there every two weeks, basically. Happily, our library has no limit on number of books, so if I do want to check out more than fifty (if I'm reading and doing a research project, say), I can.

I don't do as much rereading nowadays. I maybe reread Sanderson once a year (usually before a book release) and then random other books from my childhood. And I'm rereading the Silmarillion right now, because I don't want to read Turin's tale in the Book of Lost Tales (2), so I'm procrastinating a little bit on that.
-
Ah, very nice! I don't meet people who have read more than LotR very often. There are a couple around on the forums, though, which is nice. Which is your favorite Sanderson book?
-
Ooh! Have you read the Silmarillion?

Hi! Welcome to the 17th Shard! Have you read any of Brandon Sanderson's books? Which ones?

I don't really have much to say except corrections/clarifications and people I don't think are suspicious. I'm partly posting just so that Alvron can post the scan results sooner. Well, Adavantos said he was sharing all of his information with his Mistborn, right? So he or she will have his information, at least. Hopefully. A code phase makes me think of morse code with phasers. I'm not sure how well that would work.Other than that, I don't have much. My gut says that steph is innocent. Right now, basically everyone else is basically hovering in the middle. Also, how many Hemalurgists did Hellscythe say he had contact with at the beginning? Because I think it was three, and three have died. In fact, the last one was a Hemalurgist, so we might need to go back to when Stink died and look at his posts from there. Or am I mixing something up?- 1686 replies

Random Stuff V - The Adminpire Strikes Back
Elbereth replied to Orlion Blight's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I love physics. I got to make about 25 origami stars, tape them on a box, put a lightbulb in the box, and drop it off a balcony. We were doing the Impuls-Momentum theorem. Ours didn't break. It was amazing. And now my physics teacher liked our design so much that he wanted to keep it and to a slow motion video of it falling. -

It definitely depends on context for me. For some reason, it never bothers me when there is swearing in the Dresden Files books. Basically nothing else, but with those books I don't even notice. I have no idea why. -

You know, I don't actually curse at all except fake curses. I'm vaguely uncomfortable about real curses, actually. Especially in books.Part of this is because my mom is a teacher and my dad is a doctor, so I didn't really get exposed to cursing until I was in 8th grade or so. -

By the way, when you have questions that you think have already been answered, you can post them in the Question and Answer thread. I believe it's been theorized that it has something to do with the Dustbringers. -

I've always been curious what the forum turns some of the stronger curse words into, but I've never had the will to check. Hmm. I'll see what I can do with my Aon. It's kind of snowflaky in white, I guess... -
Ummm. No, he's not like the guy who brought Szeth back. He's an anomaly. And definitely don't wander around in here until you've read more. Particularly Mistborn (and to a lesser extent Warbreaker and Elantris).

What proof do you have that Wit is a Willshaper? I mean, it's certainly possible, but as far as I know, he hasn't shown any particular powers from Roshar. EDIT: Ninja'd.

My personal favorite is actually Defending Elysium.

Ditto. I was up until after midnight last night because I didn't start my homework soon enough. And then I had to wake up at 6:35. I can write maybe 1000 words per half hour, if I'm working fairly fast and I know what happens next (which is the important thing). The quality isn't so great, but that's what revision is for! -
Yes, exactly. I mean, a couple of them are in other people's anthologies, but an anthology of just Brandon would be awesome.

Great job! And Brandon is actually pretty slow, but the quality of his work even as a first draft is so much better...
