  1. I actually get more irritated about people getting others' genders wrong, rather than my own. Not that it's that bad; I'll just correct them politely. Though there seems to be quite a rash of that happening in SE right now, which is irritating... To be fair, I think formal clothes are equally comfortable, and I certainly enjoy wearing them more. I like feeling beautiful upon occasion.
  2. This is a good point that no one has brought up. Thank you for that!Well, right now it brings to mind the cook kills of Arrenae and then Mace, who were in a similar position discussion-wise. As Clanky mentioned, it could have been because of their discussion level. One other thought I've had about these kills is rather that the Diagrammists are killing them (assuming that's the Diagrammist cook) based on position (Commanders/Thaidakar/Restares (although Creccio hasn't been targeted yet, she only claimed this cycle)), trying to take down communications. That's certainly possible, and there would be good reason for high positions to stay in that here-but-not-much place. To turn that around, maybe the Diagrammists are targeting that kind of discussion level because there might be that kind of position there. Or maybe that's not a Diagrammist cook, and they just targeted Hael because of PM reasons or something, or he claimed to the wrong person. I don't know. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be useful to know Hael's role. For instance, we might have just lost a Scholar. I would vote that PK go after Hael, and hope that there's four Scholars rather than two (which does seem slightly more likely).
  3. This is some backstory and stuff that I did for a previous novel, with a magic system similar to Allomancy but with Stone and some variations. Long ago, earthquakes wracked the land regularly. Eventually, technology progressed to the point where the mages realized that the cause of the earthquakes was movement along certain lines in the earth. Thus, they created 81 (powers of three are important) (or possibly nine, but 81 seems more realistic) enormous stone wedges, and placed them along the fault and with their magics welded the stone to the fault. And years passed in peace. Centuries, in fact. And the mages' most important jobn (that of maintaining those wedges) was forgotten, and eventually the castle of the mages was washed into the sea, and everyone forgot about the earthquakes of the distant past. ...You can probably see where this is going. Basically, the Great Catastrophe. Everything is destroyed, and civilization has to rebuild etc. etc. It was just really interesting for me, because that would be the natural reaction to figuring out where earthquakes come from without knowing all the details, I think, if you could change it (which those mages could). Also, at some point during the great peace, the dragons left because they knew what was coming, but they couldn't prove it so they ragequit with a few of their most trusted human friends.
  4. Regarding my generation: I'm mostly fine with it. In general, I identify more with adults, to be honest, but that's not so much disliking my generation as being generally above average in maturity level. And even that's become less of a problem now that I've moved to a private school.Regarding safety: I completely agree. I live in the same neighborhood where my dad grew up, and he knows the name of every family who used to live there, and all of their kids. I know exactly no one on our street. There's still a few places you can go, though, and now I feel unsafe in those places. There's a 30m drop into the ocean in Big Sur, without any railings or anything, at the end of a hiking trail. A giant rock high above the ocean. It's terrifying. And they closed the train at Dennis the Menace? How did I not know this??? I loved that train when I was little, though I haven't been there in several years. It was amazing! ...Anyway. The only other thing I don't like about my generation is its taste in music, in general. But there are also plenty of teens who love Broadway, or Classical, and such, just like there are some who love Lord of the Rings. I just don't know very many.
  5. My guess would be that the same person who went after Arrenae in the first cycle went after Mace in this one. They seem equally random. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the cook is just rolling a die to see who they should kill. It's certainly possible, anyway. ...Well. I don't have much to say to this, other than that it definitely makes the game more interesting. Regarding the Scholars: I figured out some logic, which got rather messy (and it was even messier before), so I spoilered it. I'm not sure how helpful it actually is. So. Regarding the cooks, it's still very possible that the Diagrammist cook is the inactive one, because he or she is, well, actually inactive. That is possible on either team, and is another explanation. Now, that cook could also just not know who to kill yet, which is also perfectly fine. But they aren't necessarily a Villager. One other possibility that no one has brought up yet that I've seen: Ada's near-poisoning was a WGG. It was a bit weird, because there doesn't seem like a reason for him to be protected, though killing him seems like a Diagrammist cook more than anything else, I guess. Still strange, though. Anyway, I was saying that it's certainly possible that Ada was targeted by a cook specifically to clear him. A variant of this would be that the cook who targeted him told someone else this (possibly Stink), and that person and Ada were both Diagrammists, so they arranged protection for him. While this is possible, it seems equally likely that the eliminators saw all of the talk of Venture's potential WGG last cycle and decided to try to implicate Adavantos as well (though I feel like an eliminator would have accused him of that right now, and I feel that the eliminators want to be just killing people now rather than trying for WGGs), or a Surgeon just happened to protect him from a (Diagrammist cook or not) kill, or even that one of the eliminators heard about Adavantos being targeted and decided to protect him to implicate him in a WGG. So... I'm divided on the issue. Anyone else have thoughts? I do feel that I've accrued a slight amount of suspicion for Adavantos, but that's mostly just gut and nothing big enough for me to vote on him. EDIT: Oh, and Kynedath, I think it was you that said I was contributing but not really helping? I'm trying my hardest here.
  6. You're welcome! Yeah, finding a good clip is hard, and made harder by the fact that the LotR movies don't have many Silmarillion references in them, and many of those that do are wrong. Though there is a good bit where Galadriel gives Frodo the Phial of Eärendil. Like, the light from Eärendil the Mariner's voyages. That's Silmaril light. It burns any evil it touches. It's not a magic flashlight he's got. It's a magic phaser gun. And you can see Shelob flinch back from it, which is really cool. ...I sort of went off topic there. Then again, this is Random Stuff, so... yeah.
  7. This is probably the last post I'll be able to make this cycle, except maybe a quick one right before turnover if necessary. I'll verify that I almost did the same thing. Since almost every other game on SE (and apparently every game PK's played) is day/night, particularly in MR's and LG's, it is very easy to forget. I will note that Adavantos asked for PK's reasoning behind his number, which is a good enough reason for those numbers to me. Also, does that mean you think there is little or no chance there was a WGG? Because I still think it's very possible. Okay, I'm just confused as to your meaning here. I'm taking it to mean that a single Surgeon can't protect against a double-tap and can be redirected, which is fair enough, but I'm not sure, so can you clarify?By the way, I'm not defending PK so much as saying "This is a bad argument. Try harder." PK still seems suspicious to me. I just had quibbles with your post. Why 6? The Diagrammist kill, and 4 cooks. That makes 5. Was that what you meant? Also, I agree with whoever said that if there are plenty of protector roles as well, it could very well be balanced. Hey, if you want to be technical, it's genii. Well, we can only get their alignments revealed simultaneously if we find a second Scholar. Which no one has done, yet. A few people have said "PM me!", but if I were a Scholar I would be reluctant to do even that for fear of drawing a target on my back. Also, concerning Cooks. This was advice I was given last game, and I found it useful, so I'm suggesting it now. If you have no one who you feel is suspicious enough to go after (although apparently only one of you thinks so given last cycle's results), attack an inactive. Preferably, attack whoever has been the most inactive the entire game. It's not likely they'll come in and help out (and if you're one of said inactives and it's just that you're really busy right now and will get better, please post to say so!), and they're just dead weight for whichever side they're on. If we don't kill them off, and the Diagrammists just continue killing all the talkative players, eventually no one but inactives and Diagrammists will be left, and that's no fun. I'll voice the opinion that it would be better to have the summaries during the cycle than afterward with working post links. It is not much less inconvenient to go back a few pages, particularly if you have summaries fairly regularly. The reason I changed my mind was mainly because we found out that there were probably four Cooks rather than two (assuming Stink's contact was in fact telling the truth), which in my mind made it far more likely that there could be an eliminator Cook. Before that I had been assuming there were two (after all, that was the number in LG15, in which I was the cook equivalent), and didn't think it was likely that there would be four. Now that there's four, I think it's much more possible that there is a Diagrammist cook. Does that answer your question adequately?
  8. Well, one good video on the topic is here: https://youtu.be/YxgsxaFWWHQ .My favorite LotR/Silmarillion summarizer is here and here, though she's sadly taken down most of her videos. Those are about Numenor. I don't know if those are what you're looking for, but they're good anyway!
  9. Actually, depending on when the scholar's on, that's only one cycle of delay.End of Cycle 1: xxx is revealed to have died Cycle 2: Scholar sends in scan order Cycle 3: Scholar gets result back and communicates that result If the Scholar is on around turnover on the third cycle, that's only one cycle of delay. Now, I do think that if we manage to have a system in place for the Scholars, at least one of them should go back and check random people who have already been checked, just to verify that they weren't messed with by an Elsecaller, without telling anyone else who they're scanning for obvious reasons. Regarding the Cooks: I think it's very possible that there is an eliminator cook. If I had to choose which one it was, I don't really know. I would say not no one. Possible, but definitely unlikely (unless that cook is inactive, which could happen on either side). For Mail, I could see either side. On the one hand, I would say that the eliminators would advise their teammate not to target Maill because that doesn't seem fair. On the other hand, I could see them being all for it, because Maill is quite dangerous, after all. If the person who Stink's in contact with is a Diagrammist, I would tend to believe that they didn't in fact attack Hellscythe, but it's still possible, I suppose. Arrenae actually seems the most likely choice. She has been around, but she wasn't likely to be protected, nor a focus of discussion, and we could learn just about nothing from her death (just like Mail said he would do, above).
  10. Why do we have a delay with the Scholars? Why do we have to wait two cycles to hear back from them? Currently, we have no way of hearing from them at all unless someone gets lucky and PMs them, or if they have a position higher than Regular and they PM someone else about it who decides to act as the go-between. After that point, there'll only be a cycle's wait after someone dies. You are really not helping your case there. Your post makes me think that it was a WGG more rather than less. With that said, I'm currently undecided on the issue.Thoughts about Maill: I don't really know why he's drawing suspicion for the list he put up. In my mind, that makes him less suspicious. Most people seem to agree that the Diagrammists already know most alignments if not all. While this isn't necessarily true (they could all be regulars and a few captains, or at least one faction could have Diagrammist only as regulars [though that could be a little unbalanced]), it's probably fair to say that the Diagrammists have much more information about faction alignments than the average person in this game, and they want to keep it that way. By posting that list, Maill did just the opposite- he made it so that anyone could figure out a good deal of the faction alignments. I can't see a reason for evil!Maill to do the same. So there's that. EDIT: Ninja'd by Adavantos.
  11. I have indeed done so now. Given that it's almost midnight, I can't go and play my harp right now for fear of waking people up, but I will do so in the morning. For now, here are my comments. First, do remember that you can have the harpist duplicate what they're playing in both hands. I'm not necessarily recommending it, but it exists, and it's helpful since harps are naturally quieter than most other instruments, so it's hard to hear them in an orchestra. This comment particularly applies to measure 11 onward. Also, measure ten. While I haven't played this yet, so I don't know as such, just from looking at it it's not going to be easy to get to that chord in time. Probably possible, but given that the piano isn't doing anything in that measure, it would be easier for the harpist if you put one half of that measure into the piano part. If you feel both would do better as a harp part, that's your choice as the composer, and the harpist will just learn to live with it. Speaking of the piano, a lot of the things it seems to be doing are very harpy. I don't really know what to say about that, but they are. The other cool thing a harp can do is glissandos, which are great for effect. I don't know if you'll want to put one in, but if you do ask me (or your harp friend, providing she plays pedal harp) about glissandos in a certain key, because some glissandos sound better than others, depending on your pedals. I hope that was helpful!
  12. I am a harpist, and I'd be glad to look it over. Unfortunately, I can't right now. I can't see it on the score where you linked, nor when I download it as a pdf. It's just off of the page.
  13. At this point, not particularly. Elantris is the first in publication order, so it is a good choice, but chronology in the Cosmere at this point isn't vwery important. Also, welcome!
  14. That would actually be quite smart if they could pull it off (we lynch one of them, and then "who would ever pull off a double WGG? xxx must be innocent!"), but somehow I doubt that the Diagrammists have a cook on their side, let alone two surgeons. Do I think it's a WGG? Honestly, I have no idea. There was no one in PMs last cycle, so the only communication was in the thread and the evil doc. Unless they have a cook, which as I believe I've said seems unlikely given the limits on the Village in this game, the WGG would definitely be on Venture, obviously. I think it's entirely possible that the Diagrammists have a Surgeon/Edgedancer, on the other hand. An Edgedancer would be of particular use, actually, given it's other ability. I think there's certainly a chance of that happening with Stink, although I'm not sure how high that chance is. Okay, now that we've had a cycle, there are probably several PMs going on right now. At least two (assuming that Venture and Stink both actually sent in the action), and potentially 5 if there is another pair of Runners and the Bondsmith decides to get in on the action. And it seems more beneficial for the Bondsmith to make a PM than to tie two votes together, at this point. Also, a possibility just occurred to me. Wouldn't it be interesting if the Bondsmith were evil? That would make the alternate win con much more of a possibility, and the traitors might even just go for that. Not that it's particularly likely, I think, but it is a possibility. ...And I'm really not sure why my vote was changed to Stink. If he wasn't GMing, I would suspect Kas of being the culprit, given that he knows my timezone and that I was likely to be off for the rest of the cycle. But he's not, so I really don't know. It certainly wasn't me. I can't think of any way to figure out if Venture's near-death was a WGG without devolving quickly into IKYK's. For instance, we could ask for the Surgeons/Edgedancers not to protect Stink next cycle to see if he dies, but that seems risky and not smart. Or we could ask them to protect and see if the Diagrammists attack again, but that seems unlikely to happen. So... I guess we'll just have to wait and find out. (WAFO, if you will. Like RAFO, except pronounced by the bishop in The Princess Bride.) That's about it for my thoughts at the moment. EDIT: Storm it, ninja'd by 4 people. I usually check, but I forgot to this time. EDIT 2: I mixed up Stink and Venture. Fixed.
  15. I sigh that I have but one vote* to give. *I would say upvote, but then it wouldn't be in iambic pentameter**. **No, I don't know why I put it in iambic pentameter. I just felt like it.
  16. Okay, time for actual thoughts. This was a really, really fun first game for me. I was in fact the Mistborn, obviously. I was trying to hint for a while that I was covering for someone else, because I didn't want to be roleblocked, which worked? I guess? I haven't managed to read all of the way through the evil doc yet (given how long it is), but I have a feeling things will make a lot more sense when I get nearer the end of it. I wasn't the one in contact with Adavantos. In fact, I was one of two whose role he didn't know by the time he died, I think (though I suspect he might have figured it out). I just wasn't comfortable telling anyone my role, and my character wasn't either (more on that in a bit). Plus I thought it would be better to stay in the shadows as a Mistborn, and given that at that point the only traitor who I hadn't killed was Wilson, I was a little bit paranoid that the kandra or Adavantos was evil. My kill list: N1: No one (I was nervous and didn't have any solid suspicions) N2: Polking (Adavantos had suggested lynching inactives, and polking seemed the most inactive of them all-- by random chance, Arrenae also targeted polking) N3: Bridge Boy (This was mainly for information. I trusted Adavantos more, and thought it would be really useful to know the alignment of at least one of the players up for the lynch on D1.) N4: No one (I think I got distracted? Also, at that point QF11 had started, and I was more concerned with that.) N5: No one (Was going to send in an order on The Cow, but forgot because of family and QF11.) N6: The Cow (only for inactivity and nothing else) (Arrenae also apparently targeted him as well.) N7: Araris (This was my only kill out of pure suspicion. Very glad I was right.) (At this point I had contacted Arrenae to see if she was claiming to be a Mistborn. I had been suspicious of her the whole game, so once she claimed, I immediately contacted Adavantos to see if she was his Mistborn. I was in fact hoping she wasn't, and planning on targeting her that night. But Adavantos confirmed that she was the Mistborn he was in contact with, and we talked for a little while before the cycle ended.) N8: Biggoron (blocked) (Here, Arrenae asked for a list of people I'd targeted. I composed one off of the top of my head without notes, but it was somewhat wrong. Due to this, Arrenae told Lopen my claim, and he then told me. I then revised my list to make more sense. Arrenae and I discussed our targets. The plan was to target both claimed Voidbringers (phatt and Biggoron), but Arrenae decided to target Alvron instead.) N9: Biggoron (blocked again) (by this point Lopen had revealed my role in thread, so I was pleasantly surprised not to be roleblocked.) Okay, last thing. I tried something interesting this game, which I'm planning to continue doing for at least 5 more games. Given that this game started right before November, NaNoWriMo was on my mind a lot. And what I'm doing for NaNoWriMo is interesting, but in its essence it involves six character viewpoints, except rather than being stiched together as in a normal novel (e.g. in Elantris you have rotating Raoden, Sarene, and Hawthorn viewpoints), each viewpoint is a discrete piece. Why does this apply to the game? Well, each viewpoint takes a very long time to write. The first was pretty short (only 10,000 words), but the second was 40,000, and the rest look like they're going to be of similar length. And 40,000 words is more or less the length of one SE game. So, what I decided to do was basically to RP each character in turn as I wrote them. But instead of normal RP, it would be a RP for the entire game, including discussion and analysis, amount of PM usage, etc. Part of the reason I decided to do it that way was because I wanted to write a scene where these characters play Mafia. I'm no longer sure I'm going to, but it'd still be really fun. Of course, I finished the first viewpoint far before LG15 ended, but it was still really fun, and I do understand my character more. And it worked out perfectly: my first character was also the newbie at the superpower school place. He's logical, intelligent, and willing to ask lots of questions in order to learn the ropes, but also somewhat shy. He would use some PMs, but do no RP, because he's not comfortable enough yet. This worked out very well for me. You'll notice that I never placed a vote until Cycle 9, and no one ever placed a vote on me. (I wouldn't be pointing this out, but I think it's going to be pointless given my character for MR10 anyway). I did send in kills, but largely they were others' suggestions. I played the newbie card, but not in the way that Biggoron did or that Kas is wary of ("I'm new! Don't kill me, please!!"). I was more of a bright young thing. I contributed occasionally, but I almost never stated an opinion, and never strongly enough to make people defensive. I downplayed my role in QF11 as much as I could (although, looking back, I really shouldn't have. That was a different game that did not count for this character.) And hey, I survived to the end! I guess it worked. I did get a little bit out of character when we got nearer the end of the game, because there were things I wanted to say that didn't really fit in with my character. Hopefully I won't be having that problem again. All in all, it was a great game, and I look forward to playing more in the future!
  17. The rules specifically state that roles will be evenly distributed between the factions. Also, now that LG15 is over, I'll be posting an explanation for my different playing style, as soon as I do so over there. EDIT: So, explanation time! [Note that I wrote this before the game started.] I am trying an interesting thing, which will hopefully give me more insight into my characters of my novel, and make SE more interesting for me. Basically, I'm RPing each of my characters in turn, but instead of with normal RP, I'm RPing everything. Including the analysis. This is partly because it'll help me flesh out my characters and their different traits and speech patterns, and partly because I'm almost certainly going to write a scene where they're actually playing Mafia. It's going to be great. So! Last game (LG15), I was the newbie of the group, which was pretty fitting, so I didn't tell anyone (alive) about what I was doing. I was relatively logical, curious, and too nervous to actually voice my opinions. This game, I'm going to be a little different. As Elba, I'm experienced, kind, and practical, at my core. Elba is caring and considerate, but pragmatic when necessary. I will likely do a little RP, as opposed to the none I did in LG15, but not a ton like I will be doing in later games. Elba is also very protective of her privacy (given that in my novel she's constantly surrounded by a force field that only lets in who she wants it to). I'll also be doing a great deal of discussion, ala Adavantos in LG15. I don't really know more specifics, which is partly why I'm doing this. If anyone sees me say something out of character, please call me on it. I will be in character in PMs as well, and probably even on the evil doc if I'm an eliminator (as I'm writing this before the game starts, I don't know whether that will come up or not). Basically, what I'm saying is that if I'm acting differently than I did in LG15, it's not necessarily because I'm an eliminator. It's because I'm someone else. Hopefully, you won't see any more blue from me for the rest of the game. If I want to say something that absolutely cannot come from Elba, I'll revert to blue text, but that almost certainly won't happen. With that said, on with the game!
  18. Also, is there a win condition for the shades as well, or do they just get to target for the fun of it? And I'm currently working on a LotR game, which should be posted sometime this month. I like it so far!
  19. ...That's where your name comes from. How? How did I not get that? I thought it was just a reference to MLP and was rather confused about the "sans" part....I'm an idiot. In other news, I'M ON BREAK!!!!!
  20. These are just some general thoughts before I have to go take a final (last final of the year!!!!). I don't know when I'll be on again, because my wifi at home is out and I don't know when it'll be fixed. Starry, would you care to say why you think Bort is suspicious? Apparently someone really suspects Stink. Our cooks certainly are proactive, aren't they. The only reason for Arrenae's death that I can see was a pure faction kill. I really don't see any other reason to kill her. At least in my mind, she wasn't suspicious. From the old thread, since I didn't get on before turnover: Hellscythe, we'll hopefully have scholars for a while at least. It would take a very, very unlikely chance to kill two scholars at once, and we know for a fact that there's at least two. Looking at the roles, I tend to agree that the eliminator team is going to be relatively small. There are a lot of roles which could do great harm in the hands of the eliminators, and the villagers are very ignorant and somewhat blindly flailing. I don't think they have a cook, though. That'd be too OP.
