  1. It sounded like she was pretty panicked. I wonder if anyone else could have seen her shadow pointing the wrong way, or if only a budding Radiant could do it.
  2. Maaaaybe o_O
  3. I'll be in my 50's.
  4. The colors aren't mentioned often, but the few times they are, Vin seems to be wearing a gray shirt and brown trousers, or a tan shirt and trousers. When she's watching the gang in the shop When she's following Kelsier When she's remembering the girl she had been, watching the crew as an outsider When she goes to meet the soldiers with Ham
  5. This made me laugh and cry.
  6. The last I heard, Lift was going to be book 6. Brandon's been alternating male/female viewpoints, so I would guess the next book is either Taln or Renarin. So as of right now, the Jasnah book will be book 8 *sobs*
  7. Hey Vissy, if I've ever given the impression that I would want that type of thread "Out of the way" I apologize. Let's be honest. I absolutely have. And I'm sorry. I think having multiple character discussion threads on the main forums is fine, and I'd be hotly interested in anything involving Jasnah and Dalinar (not as a couple, you dirty dirty people).
  8. Well I mean, we know it'll have FTL. We know it'll have Hoid. And, given it's a story, it will have conflict. I guess it might not get to the point of all out war, but there's definitely going to be space fights, which is close enough.
  9. Oh now you're inspiring me to break your theory. (Kidding)
  10. Yeah Odium was trapped before the Oathpact. I think that's why he decided to Invest the dead Singers so that they could return and cause desolations. There's a WoB that the Oathpact was just between the Heralds and Honor, and the Stormfather confirms this when he talks about the Heralds.
  11. Cultivation had to have the same talk with Wyndle.
  12. Is there a reply we can use to express horror and crying and gnashing of teeth, like I am doing at the image you just put in my head? Also, Buy.
  13. Sorry. I'm a pedant to the bone. It's my nature, like the scorpion. Yes, I just compared myself to a stinging, multilegged arthropod. Yay me... I meant to reply to this thread a while back, and forgot about it. I don't actually have any proof for or against your theory and it has interesting components. The Iri belief is a strong indicator that there is something More Going On. I'll just restate what I said in the first place--it seems uncomfortably close to the Wheel of Time, which I think Brandon wants to stay as far away from as possible. I know that your idea has only a very very passing similarity to WoT, but even a hint of it and you know that there will be screams of "Imitation! Couldn't he come up with his own idea!" type things. Because people are weird.
  14. That actually makes a lot of sense. I've been trying to think of a good reason for them to not immediately return to Roshar, and that sounds like it could be plausible. The only objection I have is that the Oathpact is just between the Heralds and Honor, and involves the Fused, it doesn't relate to Odium at all, really. So breaking the Oathpact shouldn't have any affect on Odium. Maybe Odium is just worried that the Heralds will find a way to pull the Fused back to Braize and stop the Everstorm? Or maybe he just wants to deprive his opposition of the information that the Heralds could provide, assuming they were sane enough to communicate that information.
  15. I agree that it's integral to her being able to bond. I empathize with her so much. Like everything she's said about herself, I'm like, DING! ME EXACTLY! that I devotedly want to know her backstory. That it's going to be something like a decade before I get it almost kills me lol
  16. ...But I'm not being defensive? I'm actually confused as to why you're upset. I tried to explain why I act the way I do. I want to be both helpful and educational. Sometimes it means I agree with a theory, and sometimes it means I don't. And I'm going to argue it the same way either way. And again, we're not tag-teaming you. We're independently posting our thoughts. I haven't said a word to Calderis directly in days except in relation to the specific topic, in the actual threads where we happen to interact. That we happen to agree on many things is a coincidence. We happen to DISagree on many things too. It's just a coincidence of timing. I honestly don't know what you want me to do? I understand the perception you have, but what do you want us to do about it? I can stop posting, but I can't honestly believe that would be a benefit to the fandom. I can't, in all honesty and integrity, agree to a theory when I don't think it holds water. So I can either remain silent, or I can express my opinion. I can try and temper the method by which I express my opinion, but that only goes so far. When I completely disagree on the probability of a theory, that's going to come through, no matter how many soft words I try to use. And thinking on this for a while, I honestly am kind of getting annoyed here. It feels like you're saying you should be allowed to post what you want when you want, but that I and/or Calderis need put a sock in it sometimes. That's not really fair to us, and I don't think it's fair to people who are interested in book quotes and WoBs that are relevant to theories. Edit: Anyway, again, no offense is ever intended here. I'm just very forthright in what I say and think. I'm sure we could all take a step back and rethink our tones and positions once in a while. I agree that we should stop derailing now.
  17. I hope so! I loved learning more about Shadesmar and comparing it to the other bits we've seen of the Cognitive Realm in other worlds. I really liked seeing the spren with their own personalities when they're independent from a bond. I believe that the honorspren have a couple of strongholds and cities? Notum and Azure mention Lasting Integrity (I think) as the honorspren city that might have seen Nightblood. So it sounds like he meant honorspren with higher authority than a "lowly" ship's captain. A fight to free the Horneater Peaks and Cultivation's Perpendicularity would be awesome. Bonus if some of Cultivation's deep laid plans come to light and help them in their battle.
  18. I always saw Gavilar as the distant father. He was too busy forming his kingdom to really pay attention to them. Jasnah doesn't seem to hint at any abuse when we get her PoV in the WoR prologue, where she talks with her father. Just that he was the only one who seemed to be able to rebuke her without making her angry. That being said, I agree that she WAS abused by somebody in her past. Almost certainly a male, and someone who had power over her, at least for a time. Her intense hatred of the robbers in Kharbranth and her reaction to Amaram certainly hints at that. And I think that she must have been ill, or been perceived as ill when she wasn't, at some point in her past. The part about screaming in a dark room is extremely eerie and ominous, and I'm almost afraid of what we find out happened there. @IronBars Jasnah thinks about the dark room and screaming, in the prologue of WoR, if I'm remembering correctly, doesn't she? That's just as her bond to Ivory was starting, so it would have to be before then.
  19. An Arcanist just works on Arcanum. We snip, transcribe and add to the WoB database. That's all. We have no control over anything else, and our opinions aren't worth any more or less than anyone else's. I...don't know how to respond to this civilly...but here goes. I am interested, invested in, and passionate about this fandom. I like discussing theories, and I like providing evidence for or against an idea. I have the ebooks in front of me, and I'm familiar with Arcanum, so I can get quotes quickly. Apparently...this is...not pleasing to you? I mean, if a new member posts a theory, and it has holes in it, then shouldn't they be pointed out, so that the new member can learn? And if they have an original idea, shouldn't it be added to with quotes and statements? This idea that an idea shouldn't be debated on is...puzzling to me. I mean...look at my post history. When someone asks for a question or a quote, I'm among the first to answer. Not because I want to denigrate them but because I want to be helpful and educational. I...really...don't...know how else to respond to this. Consider me completely baffled.
  20. As one who has been dismissive of shipping threads in the past, I wanted to explain my reasoning. The few times I stepped into "that thread" it seemed like two armed camps. One group wanted one ship, the other group wanted an opposing ship, and voicing any kind of opinion mean the other group would immediately pile on. That was the mentality that I objected to letting seep into other threads. Fearing that would happen, I was preferring that it stay out of other discussions. I realize now how that was perceived, and I apologize and you are right. It's no harm for me to skip past any discussions that I don't like or don't agree with, and that's been my policy for the last few weeks, instead. In-depth character discussions should be welcome, and I've never had any problem with those. I've just shied away from "shipping" because of the very polarizing nature that it seemed to generate. If that can be avoided, I would gladly see those discussions emerge, and possibly even participate, if I have a decent thought on the matter. @insert_anagram_here we've clashed a few times because we have somewhat opposing views on theory crafting. If I've ever come across as dismissive, arrogant, or aggressive, I apologize. I feel like it's just because I'm a very proof-oriented person. I like things backed by textual and Wordish evidence. If a theory doesn't have that, I'll probably argue about it. There's no Odius intent here, that's my method of exploring and understanding and clarifying ideas. If you want to just explore where an idea leads, just say, (nicely, and without insults, please), "Hey R'Shara, I get that you want to make sure we're grounded but I just want to see where this goes anyway" and I'll probably back off. If you feel like I'm being aggressive, say, "Hey, that was kind of rude, did you mean it that way?" And I'll apologize and rephrase. If you notice, there were several instances where I dropped out of a thread, because I was getting heated, and I didn't want that to become a problem. For everyone: Just be open about when you're feeling like a conversation is getting out of line. 99% of the time, for EVERYONE, it's unintentional, and the person will apologize. We're all very passionate about this subject, and when we're defending or promoting a point, we can all forget about our tone. If you're offended, say so, so that it can be dealt with appropriately. Just my thoughts on this matter. Edit: Re: downvotes. I never used downvotes unless I felt the person was being extremely rude or confrontational or out of line, personally. I've also never upvoted someone just because of who they were or because they were arguing on my "side." I only upvote when I think the person stated their argument well and clearly or in some way benefitted the thread and the site. Admittedly, I don't often upvotes the posts that I disagree with. I think I should probably do that when it is also well written and clear, going forward. I think having downvotes has pros and cons, and that the mods have thought over the issue much more than I have, and have decided what's best for the site.
  21. It's just a guess, but I find it a likely scenario.
  22. Arcanum Unbounded spoilers, Sixth of the Dusk in particular.
  23. Interesting. Think you could come up with his exact phrasing? I'd love to see if there's extra nuance we can nitpick It sounds like Adonalsium made the sapient physical beings able to interbreed. Very interesting.
  24. I think that it takes a decent amount of time for the Fused to respawn on Braize and make the transition from there back to Roshar. So the Heralds have some leeway about how and when they go back.
  25. Agreed. And that's why I wasn't wanting to get involved. I am very opinionated, and will probably go to some lengths to try and prove or validate my opinion as "right." So I figured it would be best for all involved if I....didn't do that this time. C'est la vie.
