  1. Civil War wasn't a romantic movie... but it still had a shoe-horned in kiss sequence for the male lead with a female character. The Cap movies bring sup an interesting point though. I've said elsewhere, I find male-female friendships an itneresting, and unexplored dynamic. Does it feel like movies... don't know how to present male-female friendships, in a way that isn't coded as romantic? Because... well, people were shipping Natasha/Clint back when Avengers came out, then Natasha/Steve when the Winter Soldier got released. So...
  2. Hmm. Sort of a relationship question, but not really? Maybe more of a literary question, so... sorry if this is derailing the thread some: Do you guys feel romantic relationships are necessary for books to sell these days? I ask since... well, it's a topic I think about a lot. As a sad, single guy As a consumer of fiction, I kind of notice a trend where every book I read seem's to have some sort of a romantic plot... to the point where, when a character of the opposite sex is introduced to the main character, I immediatly start looking for any authorial cues that they will end up together, or forming a love triangle, or whatever. (I'm saying "opposite genders" because I haven't really read any books with Queer leads or romances. I assume the same issue is present in those, where a guy meets a guy just to facilitate the romance plot, or a one of the girl's in the books gets pushed as being JUST PERFECT for the female lead... but that's speculation on my part) SO... I'm wondering: is it just me? Am I just more aware of how much love in in books since I'm not in a relationship? Or is it genuinely a thing where every book these days must have a romance sub-plot, regardless of how it fits with the story or the characters involved.
  3. I have heard the call, and have come as swiftly as possible! ...Now, I don't normally like doing direct one-to-one crossovers. I generally prefer to take the concept of one series, and filter ti through the prism of another and, not gonna lie, I might have been working on a Mistborn/Equestria crossover setting for a bit. But, for Stormlight Archive, and with the caveat that I want to try and do something a little off-kilter? Music is a big part of the Stormlight Archive, so I'd probably try and draw from that part of the MLP lore. The Cadanceverse would be the most obvious port of call for that, so far as characters are concerned. We don't know what the Dawnsingers were/are, so I'm hesitant to throw a particular character at those... but Octavia does fit my mental image of a Vorin woman researching Cymantics. (Vinyl, therefore, would be her irrepressable young ward. I like the Octavia/Vinyl dynamic.) Changelings make for the obvious Parshendi parrallel... but I'm not sure I want to go that direction. Partly because it's flat out too obvious, partly because putting the Changelings into the Parshendi role would require reworking their species extensively. I think I'm going to borrow upon some fanon lore again; make the Parshendi a lot race from the G1 days, like the Flutterponies. Changelings can be Flutterpony!Stormform, which fits with the seemingly 'Always Chaotic Evil' vibe Thorax presented, while Parshmen can be... drones? Okay, that last part starts to fall down a little. I dunno. I'll muse the topic over and get back to you? Sorry for not being very helpful!
  4. I LIKE RULES RPGS YES ... Imean, I jump on too many RPG's to begin with. But I do find having rule sets pretty useful? It gives ideas for characters, and hard facts on what you can or can't do, and... I dunno. Maybe I just played too much Pathfinder recently, but I find having rules really useful? ...So yes, I would be interested. If that's okay.
  5. Sorry. I have...really fallen behind. 'll try and get Dalles updated tomorrow...sorry...
  6. (Topic bumping...but new seasons are airing soon, so...) This video isn't related to the new season though. It's just a pretty awesome video.
  7. Watching Jem and the Holograms for the first time. I mean, I read some of the comics, so I figured I should watch the show and sweet Celestia. This show is insane.
  8. Oh you sweet child of summer. You still have hope. Don't worry, the show'll beat that out of you soon enough.
  9. I'm at work. Taking a break. Panic attacking. I made some mistakes and really stormed up, and I'm panicking, and.. Sorry. The 17th Shard is my happy place.
  10. Wish I wasn't at work. I so wanted to make a meme of a Babylonian ranting about how, "Back in our days, we built things to last!" Also, the Night Vale conversation amuses me greatly.
  11. I'm curious; what does he get wrong?
  12. I used to read it. Never got caught up though; any good? Also, I HAVE AN IMPORTANT THING THAT NEEDS FEEDBACK. So, I'm auditioning for a pathfinder RPG on another site. The party concept is a caravan, so I decided to play a halfling rogue, with the concept of being the drivers the caravan. The DM said that, if I go this route, I can get a carriage and two horses as free equipment. They're the party theme, but he'll belong to me. And, presumably, my halflng got the horses when they were younger, and smaller. Which, one could almost say they were... My little ponies? Clearly these two horses need names, but nothing immediatly springs to mind. I don't want to wholesale loft from MLP, even though Fleetfoot and Spitfire are awesome horse names, but I do want to reference it somehow. Right now, I'm considering the name Merryheart for one of them...which I can shorten to Merry as a LotR reference. Any suggestions for Merry's partner?
  13. Only thing that comes to mind for me is Petrification for earth.
  14. What's it about? Is it a general movie magazine, or more specific?
  15. Quiver

    Worldhopper

Neat! Not how I picture Hold, but I like the picture. Are those specific shardworlds? I thought the one on the top right might be Roshar, but I'm not sure if the land mass matches up..
  16. ... That is actually kind of brilliant. Not the elderly, the teenager thing. Of course two teens who just met each other can save the world; love does incredible tings and feels amazing! ...it's also really hard, and a stable, long-term relationship can be tough. So the couple breaks up, so the world is in danger again because politics and cultures and problems can't be solved by superficial fluff and good intentions alone, so you bring in the next couple. Cycle repeats.
  17. Out of curiosity, will Question 20 be opening? Or are we just going on with this? Second...I'll try and get a Dalles post up tomorrow, and maybe something somewhere about some vanilla I pitched a little bit ago The Dalles could use more vanilla's, right?
  18. Ooh. Neat. I figured that Donna pic might be a cover or something. I. Need to check this artist out. Also, super villain films. Am I the only one really disappointed they didn't make a Rogues movie? I mean, maybe they want to save them for the Flash...but that could have been a way more fun super villain film than Suicide Squad. Antman was able to do a heist movie...so why not use the Rogues, trying to break into Waynetech for their next big score? Set up the Rogues for a Flash film, and tell a supervillain movie about supervillains committing a crime...except rooting for the Rogues avoid the pitfall of rooting for serial killers and murderers, since the Rogues generally avoid killing. Plus. The sheer hutzpah of stealing from Batman.
  19. Fridge brilliance moment: Ruby is most associated with beowolves, because of the big bad Wolf, red riding hood thing. But in folklore, what is a werewolves great weakness? Silver. Of course Ruby fights beowolves; her eyes show she's a werewolf hunter.
  20. About to spend 12 hours locked in a room with a person I dislike. After getting a total of three hours sleep. How grand.
  21. Hey, random thing wanted to pitch to you guys. So.. Lyla started as a joke. Me writing about Lyla Heartstrings, hahaha, pony. Which is why Lyla is a fangirl, the same way Lyra is for humans. The hoodie is actually a shoutout to that, the same way the photography is to the idea of "evil Jimmy Olson"... But. I was reading, and...well. Idea occurred to me. What if there is a dash of Harley Quinn? After all, both characters are, essentially, fan girls for very bad people. The difference would be that Harley has outgrown and rejected her idol (Joker) while Lyla never got a chance to with hers (Koschei) so now she clings to anyone that's in that same epic mould as him... I dunno. Random thoughts, I guess.
  22. Had a quick look over it, in-depth reaction to come?
  23. The scene at the end of volume 2, after the credits, has Yang seeming to meet Raven. And... Everyone knows Rwby has awesome music. So here is an awesome fan-song that someone invented for Tai. (And maybe I'm dropping it here partly so I don't have to go to youtube whenever I want to listen to how awesome it is, don't judge me.)
